- Our slightly upbeat version of Indiana's state song, On The Banks Of The Wabash, Far Away. With lyrics!
This song was recorded in our studios, orchestrated and played by our guitar instructor and sung by soloists and a choir of our music students ranging in age 10 to 16.
The original song is musically and lyrically melancholy. It's a beautiful song, but we had the idea to use guitar and ukulele to add an element of happiness. We hope you enjoy our take on this timeless classic.
I'm far away from Indiana now and miss it more and more.
I from Arizona and Indiana u upload this and Arizona-Indiana Kid will like it
I live near Corydon, IN and I remember singing this song in fourth grade

I went to a school in a small town, surrounded by corn and we sang this for our Grandparents day in third grade.

I toast This to Indiana! 🥂! Growing up in New Albany. Makes me feel happy to be a Hoosier. Even if I leave this state. I’ll remember that I’m a Hoosier, and that this song, is the song I grew up with.
As a Hoosier this makes me very happy

Our state song is freaking Grim... holy hell...
Just moved to Louisiana about a year ago. Missing my Indiana home
There's something about this song that's super relaxing and tranquil.
Much like the state that inspired it. There's not much happening, here, and most of us are ok with that.
@@frocat5163 Yeah, I feel that, but sometimes I also wanna go out and see the world.
@@saifuusuri So, go out and see the world. I was born in Indiana, and I currently live in Indiana, but I've been to many other places. There's nothing wrong with wanting to go elsewhere. There's nothing wrong with wanting to stay here.
I am from the UK and yet this song means so much to me.
From a faulty memory I only remembered the line, "Oh, the moon is shining bright along the Wabash", because it was a song my father sang as a lullaby to each of his five children going back some sixty to seventy years ago.
(I was the second child and heard it often and there is something about this song which really touches me. I do wish I could now ask my Dad where he first heard it.)
Tonight, just on a whim, after humming it to myself I looked it up on YT and out of all the renditions that I found, this version is "Simply the best, Better than all the rest ... ".
Although I am now crying after listening to it, you have made an old man very, very happy.
Thank you so very much!
Henry -- What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it with us and thank you for the kind compliments of this recording. Our students had a great time recording it. You might be interested to know that the Grandfather of one of the owner's of our music school immigrated from the UK. Our owner has a fondness for the UK. A number of years ago he managed a student-teacher exchange program between our city (Fishers) and our sister city in the England (Billericay). To this day he has many friends in the England stemming from that program. Kind regards.
What this to play at my funeral lovely song
This Hoosier left Indiana when I was five, but you can’t take Indiana out of this Hoosier!
I’m a Hoosier by birth and so is my wonderful husband Daniel Hunter!

Amen
i'm from peru
I grew up almost exactly half-way between Peru and Rochester.
The best rendition I've heard of this song and it comes with the lyrics. That's a bonus. Bravo! Just the right beat-not too slow-not too fast.
Thank you for the compliments! Our students worked hard to prepare and perform this song. As noted in other comments, our version is quite a bit faster than the original. This was intentional. We are glad you enjoyed it!
good stuff, great state
Such a beautiful song. Very pround to be born and raised in Indiana.
Love this song it's so beautiful I'm proud to be a Hoosier Indiana is home to me I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana
I grew up in Indiana, and I was raised by corn 🌽 you can’t go anywhere without tripping on corn 🌾 in this state
Hey now. You are going to hurt the soy beans feelings!
@@DouglasWhisman Not to mention the crow from Indiana Beach...
This song is the first one that appears on the Al Jolson Story movie.
I have to recite this song in front on my whole class for a social studies grade
I have heard many versions of this song but this one is my favorite! Your voices are beautiful and the arrangement is so simple and sweet. Your version really captures the wistfulness of this song. Thank you for posting and great job!
Thank you Trixie! The song was arranged by one of our instructors. We purposely increased the tempo of the original song in part to help our young students sing it so they don't run out of breath and in part because we wanted to make it slightly more upbeat. That is also why we chose the instrumentation...we wanted to add a little energy to the otherwise melancholy song. Our students did a great job singing it!
Yes they did! I hope you will post more songs - your students and instructors are very talented and you choose beautiful songs that we don't hear too often. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Yes, I agree. This song really sounds better than Back Home Again in Indiana. This seams more, appropriate. This song makes me feel happy about my home in New Albany. Yes, granted my life has been a pain in the ass, but that won’t make me think otherwise.
Beautiful song.
Yes this made me cry
i love indina
All Hoosiers, please your hands over your hearts for our state’s anthem.
Just wish it wasn't kinda depressing but kinda fits our state
lovely song
Honestly best song I’ve ever heard 🥀😂
Born a Hoosier... Husker by Choice. But I love the State of Indiana... it’s History, traditions and it’s natural beauty! Nothing like the PURE High School Basketball with no classes! Indiana-Purdue- the Old Oaken Bucket. Hate Notre Dame! Hearing Jim Nabors sing Back Home Again In Indiana while a crowd of hundreds of thousands at the Brickyard and Millions around the world listen and watch to hear the 33 car field pull off for 200 laps after hearing
“ Gentlemen... Start Your Engines!”
like this song.
Thank you!
i love itttt it so nice
Wheen you get to pick what music to play at school :
In indiana born and raised I miss home
My teacher played this for my class
Kitty Burst same and first comment XD
This song is an old Danish folk song "Skamlingsbanken Sang" from 1843 lyrics and music Würck and Berg.
I’m in school and in music class we listen to this song it’s a really good song and I think it’s our Indiana state song I don’t know cause out music teacher did not tell my class mates
You are correct. This is the official state song of Indiana. However, our version is much faster than the original version (roughly twice as fast), but the lyrics in our version are original lyrics. We made our version faster because we wanted the song to be a little more "happy" sounding and because the young voices who are singing it have an easier time singing a faster version...slower song requires longer breaths!
Douglas Whisman thx for the comment your awesome make a faster one please and can I have a shout out if u can
And sorry I meant our not out
so nice
...as the field of 33 roll into their starting positions......

School song
this song is genuinly depressing.
So, it's doing its job. It's a lament for a man's dead love and his longing to return to his boyhood home.
I am wildcat anyone
Grew up on the Wildcat crick! Dayton Indiana
The autotune is killing my ears...

Most depressing song and state! Glad I moved away from streets as bad as California garbage all over yards are trashed houses are poor and people are rude
no i love it
not sure what part of indiana you lived in but you got a bad part. the rest of the state is not that bad.
The kids dont have the same feeling of the Mills Brothers and i just cant listen to it. The song feels butchered to me in this version.
