Nice setup. I haven’t rigged a boat since the last time I put a Mike Yee setup in a Dagger Ocoee….that’s been a minute. I am watching these Esquif videos because I got bit by the wilderness canoe bug. Concise and to thepoint video. I enjoyed it.
Thanks! I almost pulled the trigger on a Mike Yee setup. I'll probably go with that when I get a whitewater specific canoe. I love my esquif! Just got off the BWCA this morning!
Nice outfit..almost exactly like mine.. the only real difference is I prefer to clip my barrel and dry bags ect..to a single line that I tie to the thwart with a highwaymans quick release knot. That way with a single tug I can separate my gear from my boat or keep it tied to it.. either way all my gear is tied together..... thoughts people??
Great setup, I just picked up my new Prospecteur 15 yesterday from Terrapin Outdoor as well, but in orange and will be working on setting it up. Look forward to watching you future river trips
Looks like a good practical fit-out. It's a bit different to the way the UK does it but that's fine everyone to their own. Looking forward to more videos from you Especially interested as I have the same canoe/colour. Good Luck
@Habsolutely Distrubted between the bag and barrel. However, my last trip to the Boundary Waters, I was loaded down! Lol I had my wife and son and we set up a base camp so I carried more creature comforts. I come from a backpacking background so I do leave a lot at home.
Spare paddle? When I solo I usually carry three. I really only need two probably, but I'd like to have the third to compare and contrast paddle style and materials ( wood, carbon, or hybrid). Twice in 40 years I've broken two (well used) carbon paddles; both under intense conditions. (once paddling upstream to assist a rescue, and once into a head wind with whitecaps while being chased by a thunderstorm) Just picked up another and barely missed a stroke.
How did you get those webbing anchors under the gunwales to lace in your float bags? I was considering either pop riveting P-clips to the underside of the gunwales, or drilling holes in the hull below the gunwale and lacing with rope (new OT camper 15"). Thanks for the video, I like your setup !! Also like how MYOA paddling had that kneeling thwart right against the front seat, out of the way for tandem use!
So I cut 1 inch tubular webbing at 4 inch in length and folded it over on itself. I then drilled a hole every 5 inches and pop riveted them in. I thought about doing p clips but I already had webbing and the webbing doesn't rub the bag. I used a soldering iron to put the hole for the rivet.
Thanks for the walk through on your canoe. I have your model ordered, with hope to be delivered mid June. Mango orange. Ill be adding knee pads and some D loops. I like the idea of keeping barrels in the boat if possible. I'm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with hope to paddle mostly lakes and low class rapids. I look forward to seeing your adventures. I'll for sure be videoing mine! New sub for you.
Thanks! I love mine. You definitely made a good purchase. I just come off a 125 mile trip with lots of lower end rapids. It carried all my gear, myself and my son. It handled great.
Hey, Beeman from Canada here again. I am considering another canoe in T former or similar material. It will allow me to do some trips that might be a little rougher on the canoe. I currently have a Swift 15' prospector in carbon fusion - lovely flatwater canoe but certainly not built for banging off rocks - and it's probably about 32 lbs so it means a a big increase in weight. How do you like your Esquif 15" now that you've been on a few trips?
I absolutely love it! I have grown to feel very confident in it and it has taken the abuse of a new canoist. Esquif just came out with TFormex Lite. I don't know how durable it is compared, but it is lighter weight. Might be worth looking at.
@@REXpeditions Thanks. They are WAY less expensive that Nova Craft which (for reasons I'm not sure about) seem to be the go to canoe for the guys I follow on UA-cam who do pretty extreme expeditions
@86beeman Nova Craft has Tuff Stuff Expedition which is lighter weight than TFormex. I believe that's why so many choose it over esquif. However, you often see them patching and repairing them along the way. They're not as durable as TFormex. I guess the buyer has to decide which is more important, weight or durability. I strongly considered Nova Craft.
Hi Rex, great outfit. One Q: with the 60inch airbag behind your seat can you sit in that classical whitewater kneeling position? There is no space for your legs and feet behind the seat. I would have suggested to install another 48inch airbag behing your solo seat. Cheers.
One suggestion for your solo setup - reverse your carrying yoke. It's a pain to have to rotate the canoe 180 degrees at a portage - a 10-minute fix that saves a TON of time at a portage if you're mostly solo...
Thanks for the tip! Most of my trips I don't have to portage. If I do the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, I'll definitely have to do that! We are currently sitting at the landing on the white river waiting on our car. My son was with me so we paddled tandem. We paddled the Buffalo National River from Ponca Ar to the White River. It was a great trip!
Great set up,thank you. We love our Prospecteur 15, it is an awesome canoe. We have done lots of trips in it and it is being retired to day trips now.
I've put a couple hundred miles on it now and I love it! It's truly a great canoe!

Nice boat and setup.
Thanks! I love my esquif p15!!!
Looks very well. Enjoy.... RED is definitely the fastest option!!
Thanks! I definitely like red on this canoe!
Excellent, lots of ideas. Thanks.

Great video.
I really like your solo setup,
Have a great paddling season and I am looking forward to your next adventure video.
Cheers
Thank you! I love it! Cheers to you as well!

Great set up. You travel so light. Where is your tent and sleeping bag? Cooking supplies, sleeping pad? Camp chair?

I've not noticed any issues. When I kneel, I typically am on the edge of the seat. So my feet aren't that far back. May not work for everyone.
