How about people jumping your case about what you're eating or shaming you publicly about having something sweet? Then they say they're just trying to take care of you. I'm always like...uuuuum...I'm a grown @$$ woman...

While I would never, ever, ever claim to understand what it’s like to live with diabetes… I am glad I know as much about it as I do - thanks to you being so open and transparent with your journey. I think it’s so important for people in your close circle take the time to learn about it. 1) simply because they care about you… But 2) because they need to know what to do in case of emergency. Thanks for always being so transparent and educating people with diabetes - and the people that love them! 💕

Yep. I ended a 40 year friendship with my cousin because she has Lupus and she said I can reverse diabetes type 2 by losing weight and too get over it. Because she can't reverse her Lupus....smh. We had other issues; but that was it for me. There was no competition in my eyes. It could have been an opportunity for us to support one another.

Wtf!!! My partner has diabetes type 1/2, and I have EDS, I would NEVER imply his condition can be cured just because mine cannot. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. :(

Family members blamed me allowing my daughter to eat too much sugar growing up (she has T1 & they have T2). Also, You had her when you were older…I was 35, & I have done some research on this…we have no crystal ball and I would still choose to have her!!!! She herself told me it could be worse, but I feel she was trying to calm my fears. My grandmother died from T2 complications and the bad & wrong care she was given. Thank God I’ve never said those things! I’ll remind my daughter that’s it’s ok to be upset about….but ultimately she needs to make her choices & we’re constantly learning. 💖💐🌟🙏

Hey Mila, great video! I can add one sort of. I have a cousin who's child was diagnosed at 5 about 20 years ago. When I do post something on my socials about being diagnosed as an adult, this person will almost always interject with "well at least you weren't diagnosed as a child!". So in other words..."My child had it worse than you, stop complaining!" Not that I am, when I post about it, I'm trying to bring awareness to the fact that anyone at anytime can be diagnosed with T1D.

To be fair, I don’t typically discuss my diabetes with anyone. What I dislike the most, is people without diabetes going all smart and start giving me some stupid advice about it. Most ‘normal’ people don’t even know what it means to be a diabetic. Although I would say that intolerance /allergy to gluten or lactose is pretty awful too.

When people assume my neuropathy in my feet & hands will get better if my Type 2 is “cured”. Do they understand nerve damage or ??

My first reaction when I was told I was borderline diabetes and that I needed to start using Metformin made me very sceptical. It could not happen, what the heck right? My mom passed away from diabetes and it has always run in our families. You know what diabetes is? It is waking up in the middle of the night because your feet feel like they are on fire, not feeling the pedals in your car anymore and sometimes falling down because my feet become numb. And yet my sugars are fine, with the medication of course (around 5.3 - 6.0) and I feel scared. My family doctor is monitoring it very closely and she gives it to me straight. Neuropathy, I am seeing a wonderful person about learning to live with it.

Mila, I'm watching this today with ads for Pellaton, weightloss program, and workout ads. Ugg...so counter to your message. Your videos have been a God sent for me to understand my diagnosis, process the comments, and have some hope. Sending you a hug 🫂

What I’ve heard “Well you should just stop eating bad foods/excessive large portions of food and exercise more.” Ummm nope I wish those people could live my life for one day and SEE what I eat….well what I don’t eat actually. Great vid!!!!

I cannot tell you how many times people blamed me for my “choices” rather than realizing my medical history and access to healthcare plays a large part in what’s possible. No one is ever at fault for diabetes. Society is too blamey.

When I was student teaching, over a decade ago, I had a group of teachers come to my supervising teacher with a request. They wanted me to check my blood glucose and inject my insulin in the bathroom rather than the lounge. They were afraid of me spreading “diseases.”
This resulted in me no longer dining in the lounge and not applying at that high school because I did not feel welcome.

So, people should have free license to just be asshats because they’re unhappy with themselves? Sounds like a deficit mindset.
It takes zero effort to be kind and mind ya damn business.

I long ago discovered that the world will not censor itself just to accommodate my preferences, and so I choose simply to not take offense at what people say to me.
