Hello, hello! Happy Thursday! If you missed my 2020-2021 curriculum unboxing, you can check it out here! 😍🤗

Aw, I liked your unboxing video bc I enjoyed how you process through it...much like I do :) .... definitely get wanting to process and then bring to us. Hope you have a great year with Notgrass!! We just ordered their new 50 States one....my daughter is going into 2nd and TGTB History 1 wasn't a good fit for us this year. Seeking God is key ❤️
Well thank you for your encouragement, mama! Thats so great that we process the same! How fun is that?! It's how I roll! Lol! I hope you have a great year as well, sweet mama!
Hi! This is my first time posting on anything on UA-cam. I've watched you and a few other homeschool moms for a long time. I have no social media accounts, just a personal decision.
I felt compelled to write a comment after hearing your initial review of Notgrass.
So, I've been homeschooling 11 years, and have graduated 2 kids. 3 still homeschooling. I've also felt the "pressure" per se, of choosing the right curriculum at different stages in our homeschool journey.
We have used Notgrass at the elementary level, middle school level, and the high school level. I love Notgrass' viewpoints as a Christian mama. I think you will love it as you get in the groove of using it.
I wholeheartedly agree in seeking God for the peace that only he can provide for our schooling decisions.
Sorry for the long post, I just felt your relief in finding "the" right fit for your family. I want to encourage you to always do what is best for your family.
You are doing great, and your dedication and love is so clear.
Thanks for sharing! Notgrass history is new for me. Love all the stuff home schoolers are doing!
I’ve gone back and forth eyeing Notgrass over and over again but just hadn’t been convinced, thank you for chatting about it and showing the inside. I love that it still gives you the opportunity to add as much as you want to it.
You gave me chills!! Yes thats how I felt when we started notgrass. I tear up when I read it. Just lovely.
We love Notgrass history! We've done Our Star Spangled Story, From Adam to Us AND America the Beautiful 😁 Some we finished in one year, some we stretched out for 2 yrs...but I love how the books are set up...I love the pictures...the lessons aren't ridiculously long...it has been a great staple in our homeschool for the last couple years❤ I can't wait to hear your thoughts once you get into it. FYI I liked From Adam to Us the best😉👍
Oh mama, thank you for sharing your experience with me! 🤗💞 That is so encouraging! 😍🤗
Thinking of trying Notgrass History for my grade 6 daughter. I was thinking of trying America the Beautiful. Is that a good start?
I love how you are doing history as a family! This is my first year homeschooling, so I love getting tips like this to make it more fun. I'm going to try to teach history as one class for both my kids. I'm so excited!
❤️ simple and doable is key!! We love Notgrass bible/art study too!! Hope it’s a doable, beautiful, enjoyable year for y’all!
Same to you, sweet mama! ❤💞❤💞
You sold me on this!! Thank you! I was torn on which American History to use but didn’t want to be overwhelmed. I’m so excited! I wanted simple because we live near DC so we have an incredible area for field trips. 🙌🏼
Oh wow, ya...you have everything right there close! How awesome! 😍💜🤗 Thanks for being here!
I just found Notgrass history as well! I’ve been trying to decide which one to order for this next year. Thank you for this walk through! I think it’ll be perfect since I’m planning to use the US Government mini unit from Gather Round.
So exciting!! My friend was telling me about this 2 years ago. I can't wait to see what gather round units you pair with it!!
I am super impressed by Notgrass as a whole. They sent me a personalized, handwritten note of encouragement in my homeschooling just for being on their email list.
Oh my goodness...that is so amazing! 😍🤗💞
Me, too! I was shocked!
Thanks for reading that little encouragement, so good! 😭🙌💖
We started notgrass OSSS this year too! We school year round and started 3 weeks ago and so far we're loving it! My boys are kinder and 4th grade. I LOVE the simplicity, open and go, and the read alouds are great!
That is awesome!
Oh my goodness I knew it!!!! We are doing the same. When I got it I really fell in love with it and I’m excited to start it with my daughter yeah
SO excited to be using this this year, too!!! Loved this! ❤❤
I love watching your videos. You are so real and encouraging. I enjoy how you explain things and get excited about stuff. I do too! Thank you for sharing all you do with us. 💐
Aw, thank you sweet friend! I appreciate you!🤗
So so glad I watched this! I was very up in the air about which way to go with history this year, but this looks perfect! Just ordered it.
Yay! I'm so glad you found it helpful!!!!!😍🤗🤗
Wow! I needed to hear that note to moms, I’m this stage of our second homeschool year. Thanks for reading it!
We used both OSSS and AS1 and while we enjoyed both we really loved OSSS. I cried on many of these lessons reading it to my kiddos. Such real truth and seeing beauty from ashes. We loved, loved, loved this curriculum. Enjoy!
I recently ordered Notgrass Our Star-Spangled Story too. I was trying to stay away from 'textbook' but the samples showed more of a story format with lots of beautiful pictures. Living history, short sections, questions, activities, timeline book, chapter books to go along with it, etc. is what sold me. It has aspects of everything I want in a history program. I pieced history together last year but this is more cohesive so I think he'll remember more information. I had asked if he wanted to study ancients or do another year of American History and he chose American. We can't wait to get started!
So fun! I’m planning on using this curriculum for the next school year(2021-2022). I did preorder the 50 states though and I’m very excited about it! Have a great school year!
Oh, the 50 States looks amazing as well! I do agree! I am in love! 😍🤗
We just started this this year ( my first grader loves old things and history) and I am so glad I found this. We are really enjoying it! I love the simplicity of it and the projects are fun to do. My boys are liking the little songs and poems from the cd. Green Grow the Rushes Oh is quite catchy :) We are finishing up unit 3 this week! I hope you guys enjoy it! A fun little supplement I found is from Scholastic called Interactive 3D maps US history. I've got the Mayflower map on my wall and they love to make the ship go back and forth.
Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds this year. I think you are going to love it!! I felt the same way when I opened up Uncle Sam and You for this year! EEKKS so excited!
🤗😍🤩
Notgrass is the best company ever. I’m near the beginning so you might address this, but OSSS is geared for 1-4 grades. America the Beautiful is geared for 5-8 grade for your oldest two. Definitely get the literature. I get sad when people don’t get it because it’s so good lol. I have an entire series on my channel on OSSS. There’s an alternate book list on their website so maybe you could add more literature to beef it up for your older 2. They likely won’t like the workbook. It’s very “young.” The girls and I made the best memories. I’m just a bit worried your older 2 will think it’s too babyish.
Well, not really your 5th grader but your 7th grader.
But anyway, OSSS is literally my all time favorite curriculum.
FYI the disk doesn’t work in a regular CD player. You have to put it in your computer. But I also found most of the songs on UA-cam and added a playlist. It’s called “Our Star Spangled Story extras” on my channel.
Thank you for your help! We actually completed a lesson yesterday and we all loved the read aloud! I will for sure purchase the literature...i just wanted to make sure it was the fit I was looking for before I went "all in!" 😉😁
As far as the workbook, I will most likely purchase America The Beautiful when it is released and incorporate that as it fits. We are also using Gather Round and it coveres history as well...so we've got so many different avenues for learning! Thank you for the heads up on the workbook! We may even use it "family style," as well! 😍😂🤗 Thank you for your help and your time! 💞
I hope you all enjoy this as much as we have been. I have used so many other companies and by far this has been the best. I even feel like I am learning more about the country because it does cover not so common events, places and people. HAVE FUN!!!
Hi Leah, have you used Masterbooks History Curricula in the past? If so, how does Notgrass compare/contrast? I have a 2.5 year old, 4.5 year old and a 6 year old.
Not grass looks so great! Iv been eyeing it for sometime in the future when my boys are a little older
So so so love this! I’ve never heard of notgrass until your video!
I am glad you found it helpful, sweet mama! 🤗💞
This is simply the best. I love Notgrass and this particular course is my current fave. Enjoy!
Thanks, mama! Happy homeschooling to you! 🤗💞
We have been using Our star Spangled Story. We love it!
Yay!
I have to smile because we are doing SO many of the same curriculums this year. We’ll be going through this as well for my first grader. Glad to see another family using this. 💕
I’m so anxious to get this.
Thank you for talking me through history and helping me find this.
🤗💓
I loved this!!! Especially that note from the Notgrass company. :) I debated doing Notgrass Star Spangled story or America's Story 1 and ended up choosing AS1 knowing I have the littles coming up that I can do Notgrass with down the road if I want. haha. This looks amazing! I would love to see reviews on it later as well as day in the life with it!
I'm so glad you've found yourself again :)
Thank you SO much, sweet mama!!! I'd love to do a lesson together once we get going! 😍
Thank you for being you! 🤗💓💓💓💓💓
I cried when you read that! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I knew it! I'm so tempted by this! I'm thinking of Notgrass this year.
Ohhh mama! We are loving it so far! 😍🤗
@@SimplyLivingIt I've been looking for your 7th grade curriculum video. Is it out yet?
It IS COMING OUT TMRW!!!! HAHAHAHA! GIRL, I got you! Hahahah!💜😂💜🤗
7th grade independent studies for tomorrow's upload, and then our "family subjects," (unit studies, history, Bible, etc) will be coming soon! 😍🤗
Love that you read their note of encouragement!!! That was beautiful and on point!!! ❤️ What were your thoughts after using this curriculum? Have you continued to use it?
The workbook looks like it would be a lot of fun.
We use sonlight for history it’s also a bunch of books they are beautiful. We love it!!
We used Notgrass Our Star Spangled story a couple years ago and loved it. I will do it again when my 5 yrs old gets older. However I did not like the older History they have. We ended up selling it and going with TGATB after that. Definitely a good choice!
Wondering didn't you like older? Im debating between both but def plan to add extra books and activities. My kids are 11 and 9.
We're doing OSSS too!
I have 4th, 1st and preK kiddos ❤ we do history as a group study too!
Yay! That's awesome! 😍
That's an incredible intro!
Thanks for reading it 💖
Yay! I am a first time homeschool mom starting this Monday (aaahhh) We chose this curriculum for my 1st and 3rd grade girls and are so looking forward to it. It seems absolutely amazing! I can't wait for the 50 states next year. My oldest is in 7th and he chose Book Shark which also seems really amazing!
I am so glad I saw this! I had ordered a history curriculum for the coming year, but wasn’t really sure if it was the right one. I have a child who does not enjoy history, and I think this would be perfect for her. I had no clue this existed, thanks for sharing! I may be switching things up!
Thank you so much for reading the words of encouragement from the text!!!
I am considering Notgrass for this coming year, and it looks so cool!
You just solved my history curriculum problem. I truly believe God lead me to your video! Thanks 💛
Awwwwww! Praise God!!!! 🙌 I'm glad you found it helpful, mama! 🤗🤗🤗
Great video!!!! I have been looking at this curriculum for us.
We are using this too.. SO excited to start! It took all my self control to not order the 50 States now...for the 2021/2022 school year! 🙈
Ha! I ordered the 50 states and will probably do Star Spangled Story as well with my youngest daughter next year. So fun!
Ohhhh! 50 States looks AMAZING!!!! Agreed! 😍
Did you buy one textbook for each child?
How did Notgrass work for y'all? Is it still working ? I have 6th grade boys an I am looking into several different curriculum ideas for History
Love coming to see what u pick out totally my style as well
I ordered my Notgrass OSSS and I'm so excited to get it!
YES!!!! I hope you love it! 😍🤗
Americas history/govt will be a huge focus for us this year considering everything the world today
That curric looks absolutely beautiful
YES! Us too, mama...us too! I am excited to share more! 🤗 Have a great day!
@@SimplyLivingIt cant wait 😍
I am seriously considering using this curriculum for my upcoming 9th grader (the world history high school set). This review of it cinches it for me 🤗
I loved the sweet note from them.
What a wonderful message!
Thank you so much! 💓
We really liked Notgrass last school year and will be doing the part 2 books for this school year:)
Are you doing the full units from Gather Round on top of this?
Yes and no!!! We are doing the units from Gather Round and I added in Notgrass as a family read aloud, so to speak! I don't know how it will go or what it lt will look like. But, we will figure it out as we go! I can tell you that we won't do everything, every day!🤗
Also, have you ever tried Hearts of Dakota? Or Tapestry of Grace? I really want a solid biblical curriculum that incorporates it all. What do you use for Math with Gather round? I am also looking into Master Books. Its all so overwhelming!
I will have to check this one out. I like it.
💜🤗
I have had my eyes on this history for my youngest 2. We used one of the older levels w my older 2 kids. Love Notgrass.
Can I pick your brain for a minute?
This notgrass history versus America’s story 1; how do they pair up?
I bought AS1 last year, but I had a second grader and a pre-k and it didn’t go the way I wanted. We still used it as a read aloud once a week or so but it was just to formal schooling for how I want them to experience school. I was planning on trying it again this year or next. Fast forward to this last March right before the pandemic and Notgrass hosted a field trip at a local museum and I fell in love with this exact curriculum. I wondering if I should give it a go or just use the AS1 I already have and get over it. I love the info in AS1 but I just feel like it’s more 5-7 for the series versus starting in third.
I say, and always say...follow your heart! If you are drawn to Notgraa...DO IT! It is so hard for us mamas to know what will work until we try it. If you are drawn to Notgrass...give it a go! That's my heart in it...you can make changes wherever you need or want to! There is NOTHING wrong with that! Hope this helps! 😍🤗🤗🤗🤗
I have switch history curriculums every year. None of them ever felt right. We just started Notgrass and finally it feels right! We chose Uncle Sam and Me for my 7th and 5th grades this year, as it is an election year. My 3rd and 1st listen in. Then I am doing the new 50 States unit with the younger ones once it is ready the end of August.
Nikki! Right?! So you know what I'm saying! 😉😃 It is so, so great! It really is! I will likely do that same once the updated editions are out! Thanks for sharing some of your plans, mama!
As a first time homeschool mommy to a 7th grader & pre-K 3 do you know (recommend) of any good free complete curriculums. Or tips on what a new homeschool mom should be gathering ! So many different things. But I like your approach on homeschool & ive been researching and a
Charlotte mason/unschooling/unit study approach is what keeps calling my attention
Easy Peasy all in one homeschool is computer based and totally free. I don't have a ton of experience with it, but that is really the only free option that I'm aware of. I'm sure there are many to choose from though! For your first year...take some time to adjust! Don't feel the need to rush in to anything! Follow your heart! 🤗💓
SIMPLY LIVING IT thank you. The other one I was looking into was good and beautiful. I saw that we can purchase but it looked like you can print pdf as well. I’ll def look into it. Thanks again
for the younger ones I just used a curriculum book from Sams club/Costco and watch freeschool on youtube and Science Max etc. any videos we could find. And used reading eggs/math seeds not free but cheaper then some curriculum my son loved it. Lots of stuff out there though if you Google/pintrest it all. :)
Did you purchase one complete set and then one workbook per student? I wasn't sure if they each needed their own textbook. Thanks for the review! I have had my eye on Notgrass!
I did purchase the set! So far, I only have the 1 workbook. I think I might stick with 1 for now and see if we end up actually using the worksheets! 😂 We will see how it goes once we get started! 🤗
How are you planning to do Gather Round and all of the other supplementary materials? I'm finding this thought a bit overwhelming as I thought most of my subjects would be covered by Gather Round...
Yes! They are! Don't be overwhelmed by our choices! 😍 Each family makes it their own! 🤗 Follow your heart and do it your way!
@@SimplyLivingIt Just want to be able to have may kids' subjects thoroughly covered without being unrealistic or overwhelming myself...which I tend to do...Lol. ;). We'll see what I decide...
YES! Just follow your heart, mama! Each home adjusts to their needs and desires of their home! Everyone does it differently! Gather Round IS all inclusive!!!!😍
We're currently using TGATB history. As much as I love it for other subjects, I'm not sure the history is working for us. My daughter says she doesn't like history, which hurts heart haha. I think I'm switching to Notgrass next year, although after watching videos and seeing videos I want to switch now.
How do you coordinate your GR units being added in? I have a core curriculum set, but I would like to add in some of the GR units, but I am afraid I am adding in too much.
When you did America's story did you guys end up using the worksheets much? I have it planned for this year and we did the first day today and liked it, just need to find our bearings with it. With gather round, bible, math and typing it feels like a lot to try and fit history in as well but really hoping to make it happen because I LOVE history.
We never used the worksheets with America's Story! LOL! Sometimes I feel like there is just too much stuff, if you know what I mean?!
Yeah I'm on the fence about using them. I feel like if it keeps us from fitting it in then we might skip them and just do narration.
I'm so sorry for sucked you in😂🤣😂. Sorry not sorry...its gorgeous isn't it!!!😍🤗😍
Hahahahahaha! I love you! 😍🤗🤗🤗🤗 It is just what I was needing! 🤗
I’ve been eyeing this for the last month! It looks amazing. The samples look mostly story based. Would you say that’s how most of the lessons read? Thanks so much for sharing!
Did you do a follow-up for this history by chance? How did you like it?
I have a follow up coming soon! Yes, we loved it! Used the whole set but we will not be continuing with Notgrass for the coming homeschool year. I am shifting my focus for my oldest who will be in 8th grade. 💛
Are you guys still using Notgrass? I’ll be downloading the sample lessons today. How do you like their language arts?
I do things the same way for homeschool planning, I need to get my hands on things and see it and try it before I know. I have boys too and I feel like I could have made this video myself :) I also am using Gather Round and the same Notgrass history this year! I love simple, rich and fun curriculum like these. I am struggling with math decisions now. What do you like for math?
Oh mama! How cool is that?!
Regarding math...how old are your kiddos?!
@@SimplyLivingIt K and 4th grade
Following this 😅 Im so nervous to purchase Rightstart math for my boys just in case there is something out there I havent heard about yet. I showed them different things and out of the ones I showed they said right away that rightstart looked the best. Whenever we did math they would ask me to write if they tell me the answers 😂
Thanks for sharing! After using this curriculum for a while how do you like it? How does is compare to AS? I’m debating between OSSS and AS and just can’t decide!
You got it!! 😂😂
YES! I did! Thank you for all your help!🤗 Love you, sweet friend!💞💞💞💞🙏
So do you add this to your Gather Round units and math? How many days per week?
Yes! 2(ish) x/week!
Are the projects really intensive? Do they require a lot of supplies that need to be purchased prior?
No, they are pretty minimal! I like fun yet simple projects! So far, everything has been with items we already have on hand! 😍
@@SimplyLivingIt perfect! Thank you for your quick response. Your review was very helpful!
Hello, so I have been looking at doing gather round this year for my 3rd grader and I like that it includes everything except math. My question is why have you chosen to do Notgrass on top of the history that is already included in Gather Round? Would it be to much for an 8 yr old? I feel like the sample 5 pages of Gather round might already be a lot for my son. Just trying to figure this all out. Thanks. 😊❤🤔
Hi! Just wondering if you are still using this and how do you still like it? Thanks
Yes! We sure are! We just finished book 1 and are beginning book 2! ❤
@@SimplyLivingIt Thanks! Have you ever done or will do a video on how you are using it with your family. I would love to see it in action. :)
I haven't done one specifically but I have added it in some of my DITL videos! ❤
how many days a week do you guys do history and science?
2-3 depending on our schedule! ❤
I do have a question 😂😂. How would you do it with a 11th, 8th, and 3rd grader?? I want to do notgrass I just have no idea how!!
I would love to know if you are happy you did Star Spangled Story with your age ranges of kids. I am planning to switch to Notgrass next year, but need need to decide which one. I will have eight, fifth, and third graders next year. Did you think SST was in-depth enough? Or would you go with the course designed for fifth through eighth graders? Just curious your opinion.
Yes, I am glad that we did! I am excited for what's next, for sure! My oldest is ready for more but I am so glad we did it!
Yay!!!
I wonder if I do this with my 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders I can make a workbook off pinterest or tpt... American the beautiful was what I wanted. When does it come out?
Oh mama, I am sure you could! I got an email that they are taking pre-orders for America the Beautiful in August, I believe! Check their website! 🤔😃
Still trying to decide between this & Beautiful Feet 😊
I'm not very familiar with Beautiful Feet....🤔 Sounds interesting! 😍🤗
SIMPLY LIVING IT it’s a literature based approach to history, which is exactly what I’m looking for. History can be so boring if it’s “textbook” style, so I wanted to try something different this year 😊
Me too. I am considering combining.
