    I talk about my week with the 2025 RAM 1500 Limited with the High Output motor and the 4 issues that it presented during my time with it. What do you think about these issues, and would you still take the RAM over its competitors? Thanks to RAM for providing this vehicle for me to review!

      part of it is how much luxury they've packed into them. Part of it is the sheet monstrous size full-size trucks have inappropriately grown into. More material, more money. Part of it is just, they can get away with it. There's endless Accountant Bradleys out there that are just willing to spend $60k on huge commuter trucks, and the makers are all too happy to provide them. 15-20 years ago, full-size trucks were a good size to fit the family, get work done, and navigate narrower/smaller areas with a little competency. Now they're just obese playthings, "yank tanks" on silly 22" factory wheels. A mobile fortress for the antisocial.

      Predominantly Uconnect issues. Sometimes some window switches would stop working or random interior lights, then they'd work the next day. But most of them were infotainment or screen issues. I'm not saying stellantis is all bad, my parents had a few Jeep Cherokees that were really nice and had no problems. My brother had a what....late 90s Cherokee? Had the 4.0 6 cylinder? Bullet proof engine. And being that this is a brand new vehicle and probably a test mule I'm sure not everyone will have issues. Hopefully they get smoothed out or it's just a random one-off problem in this truck. Who knows.

I am not biased. I have a wagoneer and that thing was horrible with electopic bugs. Multiple dealership trips but wagoneer compensated me for the headaches so we kept it and all is fixed now no more bugs. • @bmitchellc
    @bmitchellc 3 місяці тому +34

    Matt, it's not just an "early build" issue. My usually Mopar loyal buddy gave up on his 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel after Stellantis (not the dealer) REFUSED to fix the center stack going wonky after 3 warranty repairs. In the first week he owned it, the center stack went blank and unresponsive. It spent 9 out of 23 months of ownership parked at dealerships waiting for Stellantis to authorize repairs. Stellantis's line: You (the customer) need to reboot it if it acts up. Thing is, the Mexican made 2500 and larger Ram's seem to be fine.
    If you have to have a RAM with an inline six, get a bare-bones 2500 with a Cummins. It would be cheaper than the truck Matt reviewed.

      3 months ago I was renting a car for business. I was waiting for them to bring my car up and another customer and I started talking. He owned a Ram 2500 Limited that was 5 months old and plagued with problems. He was in his late 60s and it was the last vehicle he was going to own and he was very irritated with the ownership experience. He did say to Ram's credit, they were paying for the rental as they expected to have his truck in the shop for "an extended period" of time, but as soon as it was fixed, he was going to trade it in on another brand.

    • @mikelemoine4267
      @mikelemoine4267 2 місяці тому

      I had a 14 Grand Cherokee with the Ecodiesel and it was twice as bad as the later models. I changed my oil every 5K or less, kept up on the fuel/air filters and it still locked up on me at 64K miles. It had just had the EGR recall performed (free) and the front main seal leak fixed for the second time (ext warranty paid $1700) and 4K miles later it locked. My ext. warranty paid another $13K for a new engine and that one has already had a front seal leak and seems to consume oil. Now the transmission has codes that the dealer says require a full replacement. Ext. warranty company balked as it still drives and a new trans is more than the trade in value of this turd. Getting rid of it before October when the extended warranty runs out. They'd paid over $22K in repairs since the factory warranty expired. Not falling for that again with Chrysler. It's a shame too as the performance stats of this thing look interesting and their hybrid EV also looks interesting, but they build everything out of plastic and it just falls apart.

    The UAW has been complaining to Stallantis about two problems that can definitely cause the issues you observed: The wiring harnesses are too short, which is causing too much tension at the connectors leading to intermittent disconnection of various components; and some of the many modules in the truck are not waking up on demand but will do so after 10 minutes or so. Hopefully Ram will get these issues taken care of before too many come off the line.

    • @mikelemoine4267
      @mikelemoine4267 2 місяці тому

      It's not just quality control that's the issue, it's poor design and/or cost cutting that leads to the issues. They use plastic parts on a hot engine and they just don't hold up as well, so things leak. They rush products out before testing thoroughly enough to boost sales, even though problems arise and end up hurting sales in the long term. On this model it's said that they used short wiring harnesses that don't have enough slack to plug everything in securely, so they get intermittent. I don't know if that was a mistake or if they tried to save pennies per vehicle by using the shortest wiring possible and simply overdid it a bit. They'll still use up the short ones in production and stick people with them rather than trash them all and build them right. Ford did that with their VCT actuators. They had a new upgraded one in the parts department, but were still using the crappy original ones in new production as they didn't want to throw them out.

    I drive a 2023 F-150 for work. It's a Super Cab with the 5.0. For $47,000 it's what we used to call "sale proof" for just about any retail buyer. Cloth seats, plastic floors, steel wheels, it's as close to the old school "heater and key" trucks Ford sold back int the 80's when I was a lot boy at a local Ford store, as you can get. It has 26k miles on it.
    $48k for a truck that maybe 3 people would actually buy, outside of fleet accounts? And even though it doesn't have all the high tech crap that runs the prices up to ridiculous levels, it still has its issues. Sometimes when I get in and take off, the center display screen goes black for 10 or 15 seconds before it wakes up. Trying to get it to kick down a gear for a hill usually results in a 3 second fit of mechanical Alzheimer's, then it drops 3 or 4 gears. One of our 2018 trucks had the trans rebuilt at around 80k. And if you actually use a truck with an aluminum bed, what you have after a couple of years isn't pretty.
    People need to tow and haul things, want room for the kids, heated everything, 23 cameras, and 30mpg in a truck that can survive hitting a wall at 70mph, all while blowing rainbow unicorn farts out the tailpipe. What you get is expensive compromises.

    I’m very disappoint in my Ram purchase. On 06.21.2024 I purchased it from Don Wood Ram in Rockbridge, OH.
    I drove it home and parked it in the garage. This was at approximately 30-40 miles on the truck. The next morning as I back it out of the garage, I noticed a lot of transmission fluid on the concrete floor. I look underneath and the transmission is leaking. I call service and receive an appointment for this morning (07.30.2024). Then on the way to the service appointment the Infotainment screen displays a “Uconnect box requires service” alert.
    I took it into the dealer where I purchased - Don Wood in Rockbridge, OH. The transmission housing is cracked, and they are trouble shooting the Infotainment.
    It will be sitting at the dealership waiting service during the 4th of July holiday weekend for which I had plans of driving it quite often. As of 07.10.2024, still at dealership.

    I have a 22 limited. Same infotainment and HK stereo. Mine works as it should as does my adaptive cruise. I have the 5.7 non etourque and my throttle isn’t jumpy like you described but it takes a second to go when you press the pedal. I found that in my 17 Silverado. Also hear about it in other vehicles too. It’s why they have pedal commanders and the like. My transmission does exactly what you describe. It’s clunky. Doesn’t want to downshift shift into 1st for a second when slowing down. Also when you accelerate and then brake it hangs for a second before downshifting. Also when I first get in it is reluctant to shift out of first until it warms up. Other than the transmission I love the truck. These bugs and many others are found in many of the vehicles today. I follow forums and pages of many vehicles. The flaws are plentiful.

    I've had three Ram limited in the last 6 years. Currently have a 2023 GMC atx4 AEV. A couple of the rams had some issues. One was the wheel bearings completely failed in the front. Replaced and problem solved. The Uconnect was always a little glitchy. The glue that holds all the materials on the dash came off. Transmission never had any issues, unlike a previous GMC before the new transmission 10 spd. The New GMC seems to be good build quality. If I switch to RAM again, I'll probably wait until FCA irons out some of the kinks. They always seem to have issues early in production. Just go to a ram/JEEP dealer and look at the sheer number of vehicles in for service. I can relate to this video. The GMC is by any means not- perfect. There is screen also has some issues time to time. To me the multi-function tailgate is wonky on the GMC. Ram has a much better stereo, rides better, might even handle a little better but hard to judge. The lack of an auto tilt steering wheel shows FCA is trying to save some money. Some folks say the sheet metal on the ram is thinner than GMC/ford. I cannot attest to that.

    Another great example of Stellantis quality and reliability. I can't imagine what the new Ramcharger is going to be like with all its electronic complexity.

    Fiat reliability for a high cost to get worse than v8 mileage on a foreign truck that hasn’t changed in years. It’s amazing how little this has going for it

    Every comment section on every pickup truck review is full of complaints about the price of these trucks. And it’s true, they are very expensive in the higher trim levels. As the owner of multiple trucks over the years, I have to say the trucks today are far more capable than trucks from 50 years ago. Back then, there were no crew cabs, payload and towing capacity was much lower. My 1975 F 250 was a great truck, but there is absolutely no comparison to a 2024 F 250. And getting over 100,000 miles on your truck was almost unheard of. Today, most pickups will easily go 200,000 miles or more. That’s 20 years of driving for most people. So are they really more expensive when you can drive them for 20 years? That’s a cost of around $2000 per year. It will be paid off in 4,5,or 6 years, and then the truck is paid for the next 15 years.

    It's not Stellantis electronics, it's Stellantis software. Today's auto companies must not only be good at developing vehicles, they must also be good software developers. When I think of RAM, I don't think of a top-notch software company. I think this video demonstrates this point. Software updates aren't free; you will be paying for RAM to fix the bugs in your truck. They may be covered during the warranty period, but at some point you'll be paying hundreds of dollars for fix bugs inherent to the software development.

      Great buy. I live in Canada and they stop selling Titans in 2021. I bought a 2023 Frontier Pro 4x instead. If they sold them in 2023 I would have bought one. Naturally aspirated 400 hp. Nice.

    I have a 2023 Ram Built to Serve. They had to replace the unconnect system right off the bat because wireless Apple CarPlay didn’t work. I love the truck otherwise.

    Oh yeah, EVERYONE can afford an 86K truck!!! Even one that the cruise control, electronics & other “minor” issues don’t work right. We have a paid for 06 Dodge 1500 SRT 4X4 with rotted out wheel wells I’ll stick with thanks, it still runs great, no other issues except the CD player eats discs & keeps them but it works, carries plywood, lumber & tows just fine. I’m retired, make 48K annually including my VA disability & am sorely disappointed in how auto makers have jacked up their prices for no apparent reason other than greed & inflation.

    Id like a Ram 1500. However, id opt for the 3.6 v6 that has been around forever and is pretty decent.
