Love the way that base came together! But I do think it needs chocolate chips between the marshmallows and cake. But that could just be me and chocolate. lol
The look of joy on Julie's face when she figures out what she's eating. It's great! Thanks, Glen, for your perfect timing: I needed to come up with something to make for my street's National Night Out (U.S.) on Tuesday. I will definitely be making this! Please stay safe. Stay home. Put up a tent in your backyard and eat cake.
It was good hearing a Canadian perspective on the fires. Here in far west central Minnesota, we get the smoke once in awhile, and it breeds in us empathy for you all. As to S'mores cake, the ingredients are true to the tradition, and it does look delicious. Wishes for Canada's forests to be safe, for moderate rainfalls, for an end to the fires. They are overwhelming, as are the many, worldwide tragedies of climate change. A good August 2023 to you.
That looks really good. I think I might use pieces of Hersey bar, instead of chocolate chips, for a bit more of s'mores vibe. And, maybe, some full size marshmallows mixed in with the mini ones.
I absolutely love love love your videos ❤❤❤❤❤and I agree i also love his happy dance. I also collect old cookbooks and make the recipes. God bless you both and all your family and friends
Yum! Only thing I would do differently is to put almost all the chocolate chips under the marshmallows and then sprinkle just a few on top to tease what’s below. And definitely good quality milk chocolate chips would be my preference.
Wise camping choice Glen, the fires here are unreal...it looks almost like the entire province is burning right now, with new ones springing up every day. Camping in your back yard is fun, if nothing else works! 😁
Definitely saving this recipe. I would (possibly) make two changes: extra chocolate and then thinking of making Swiss meringue marshmallow instead but that's subjective. Really looking forward to trying thins! :) I love that there can be variants of this as well, adding Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, chocolate ganache, giant chocolate chunks or caramel.
I live in Peoria Illinois and we can literally see and smell the haze and smoke from the forest fires in Canada. I can't imagine how ungodly terrifying it must be up their. I hope you all stay safe.
Every camping trip we’ve attempted has been cut short for some reason sigh..I’m in Windsor and it’s just just hot wet soup for Ontario weather …so we’ve given up 😂 Think s’mores cake is on the menu this week in my home.
I'd melt the choc chips with some heavy cream (sort of like ganache but thicker) and drizzel it. That way the choc won't solidify like chips tend to do. (Yes, messier.) Thanks for sharing.
I am going to try this but fold the mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips into the batter. Maybe even use Hersey chocolate bars broken into squares instead of chocolate chips.
Well, now I know what to add to my shopping list... My sister's birthday is in just over a week and I think this would be a delightful cake to celebrate her birthday. If I had any more, I might add really small bits of candied ginger to the batter. I really like that little sharp bite of ginger, but... since I don't have any.... :)
I just got back from a camping trip and I've got another coming up very soon; maybe I'll bring this to take along since I can't eat real s'mores because of some ongoing dental work!
I assume you are in the UK since you are using British English. Since Graham crackers are expensive in the American section, and Digestive biscuits are easily available, just use them! They are slightly different, but not much. If I recall correctly, yours has more sugar.
I only think marshmallows have a sweet flavor unless burnt, so I'm not a fan but I don't hate them either lol. Would a drop of liquid smoke in a chocolate sauce be too bizarre, or brilliant? Or I could add it to peanut butter and omit the marshmallows? If somebody tries it, let me know 😂.
Cut sugar in half, reduce marshmallows, and use dark chocolate? I don't think marshmallows have a flavor except sweet, but during a campfire they get burnt. I was thinking of peanut butter instead of the marshmallows and someone commented about replacing the butter with peanut butter. Happy experimenting!
No, the marshmallow needs the structure to work well in this case. However there are vegan marshmallows out there: Plant Kitchen, Anandas and Dandies are all good. Of course, they're also way more expensive, but worth it for an occasional treat, IMO. That said, you could put the chocolate on top of the graham cracker crust and then once that has melted and cooled slightly you could put dollops of fluff on the top.
I’m wondering why you use milliliters for the dry ingredients? I’m familiar with using grams for the dry ingredients. How do you measure dry ingredients in milliliters? Also you have one ml for a teaspoon of salt but five ml for a teaspoon of vanilla. Why the difference? The cake looks wonderful!!! I’m going to make it to take to work next week.
Yes - a glass volume measuring cup. The standard for measuring ingredients in Canada and the United States. Though I also have several older tin / aluminum measuring cups as well.
Obviously this is dangerous if you are on any sort of diet. Also for anyone thinking of making at home, be sure to let it cool a little before shoving in mouth, you don't want molten marshmallow sugar burns inside your mouth.
I have to agree with one of the other commenters here. Why the volume measurements? Why not grams for the cracker crumbs, flour, etc.? ML can (sometimes) convert easily, but not always. This is going to be more frustrating than I had hoped.
Because in Canada we use Volume measurements - Since this channel is watched by mainly Canadians (and Americans too), I use the measurements that I'm comfortable with, and that my main viewers use. Why would I use measurements that I don't use, and that my main audience don't use?
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking That is a completely understandable reason. I apologize for not thinking about that. I'm so used to Japanese and Korean recipes that are also metric, but use weight measurements for the most part, that I forgot that not all metric-using countries are primarily weight measuring. I did make this cake, and it is quite tasty. Would you mind if I add the weight measurements I used to a comment here?
"It's a finger cake." seems like a reasonable way to describe/define a confection, but the phrase itself feels odd to me (a midwestern US sort of person). Is this a common canadian phrase? (unrelated to anything at all, my tablet thinks "Xanadu" is a more likely word choice than "Canada")
Surely you know what weight of crackers you used for the cake. How many packets, anything but freaking cups! I halve no idea how many packets of biscuits I’ll need to make this. Turn cups into mls changes nothing. We all know how many mls in a cup. ☹️
I love it when Glen does his yummy dance.
Haha, I noticed that too! Love to see it lol
Me too!
Love the way that base came together! But I do think it needs chocolate chips between the marshmallows and cake. But that could just be me and chocolate. lol
I was going to say I wonder how it'd turn out if you layered the chocolate chips under instead of over... Hmm. Guess we'll have to try it out.
Melted chocolate poured in a layer
I thought that, too!
Agree
I love the great "dance" move after tasting each recipe thats completed

That looks so good! Maybe a teeny bit more chocolate? I guess the only way for me to decide is by making this recipe :)

love it that you use parchment paper. I do too ... people ask 'Why' ... I say: ease of cleanup
Glenn the cake looks delicious 😋🤤 you should do a cookbook thanks for showing
That looks easy enough and the perfect cake for anyone yearning for that camping experience.
Looks interesting. I love making smore's with peanut butter cups. So with your recipe I like I'd add some peanut butter chips as well 😊
I'd use melted peanut butter instead of butter in the cake part.
@mollybeee sounds genius to me
Glen loved it, he danced!
Yum! Only thing I would do differently is to put almost all the chocolate chips under the marshmallows and then sprinkle just a few on top to tease what’s below. And definitely good quality milk chocolate chips would be my preference.
Naw...semi sweet chips all the way!
@@rebeccaturner5503 Well, traditional s'mores are made with milk chocolate bars, though.
Kiddos are having a camping/sleepover in our yard, so this will be an instant hit! Thanks Glen!
I hope this fall or next year are better for camping trips. I had really looked forward to seeing you in the great outdoors.
Made this today.
Absolutely delicious!
This recipe will be a new regular at family gatherings.
Thanx!
The kiddos are going to love making this, served with a salad. We’ll camp in the backyard. It’s nice not to always be the meal maker. Thank you Glen!
So simple but looks so amazing!!
Can't wait to make this tomorrow! Praying for rain everywhere in abundance.
What a GREAT video! I'm not a fan of marshmallows but I love how concise the video is.
I was thinking of peanut butter instead of the marshmallows. They don't have a flavor except sweet to me.
Not a fan of marshmallows? So you dont like sugar?

What more can be said but...YUM!!!
That looked really good! My sister is making coffee can bread today and i found a recipe for cheesy coffee can bread we might need to try...
Definitely saving this recipe. I would (possibly) make two changes: extra chocolate and then thinking of making Swiss meringue marshmallow instead but that's subjective. Really looking forward to trying thins! :)
I love that there can be variants of this as well, adding Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, chocolate ganache, giant chocolate chunks or caramel.
The SUPER Glen dance!
A layer of peanut butter under the marshmallows, would be a good addition.
Peanut butter sounds good. Maybe peanut butter chips or chopped Reese's cups instead?
I live in North East Pennsylvania and the smoke from the fires has come down this far. I feel bad for the Canadians
Jules cackling with glee!
That looks fantastic!

I'm in Urbana IL and it's been the same here. Stay safe Glen and Jules.

I might substitute marshmallow fluff and a chocolate ganache over it… but it looks great!!!
I am going to make this one day!
Looks yummy, will be sharing link. I think one could make 1/2 recipe if you live alone.😊😊

I am gonna make that for sure!
This has to be your best video

Hi! With which biscuits can you substitute smore's biscuits? Thanks
Why substitute when you can make this so easy?

@@joantrotter3005 Thank you! Will try.
Half the thickness of cake, twice the marshmallows and chocolate chips . . . oh, yeah!
The only thing I can think of would be to use different varieties (or a mix) of baking chips.
Good show as always thank you kindly. Is it really rich? Na it looks good.## lol
Yum oh!!!!

humm I really like burnt marshmallows...wonder if you could broil it a little bit to get that burnt crust without the fire alarm going off 🤔
Yum.
Glen, you’ve said that you “don’t like sweet things.” So what sweet things do you dislike? It must be a very small subset of sugary treats. 😅
It’s probably like me - I really don’t much like sweets most of the time, except for when I REALLY want something sweet.
Le torte, c’est très sucrée!

My over achieving ocd would add caramel drizzle also. 😉😅
the supermarket in my town has stopped stocking mini marshmallows otherwise I'd make this.
😂😂 i think perhaps that's a cake i should never make.
I'll have to try it, but my preference for s'mores is milk chocolate, not semi-sweet
that thumbnail looks so goooooood
Yum
I want Samoa!!
youve had me at the thumbnail man
I want that so bad! But I gave up added sugar. 🙊
😍
How does it hold up for the next day? Still gooey?
Fly to YCN, park the plane in front of our hangar, then wild camp in the area.
Do you think this recipe would work with marshmallow fluff instead of marshmallows? It looks delicious but I avoid gelatin in my diet
No, the marshmallow needs the structure to work well in this case. However there are vegan marshmallows out there: Plant Kitchen, Anandas and Dandies are all good. @@VeretenoVids thanks for the helpful reply, I am aware of vegan marshmallows however they're much harder to find in my area than just fluff. :)

@@GlenAndFriendsCooking Do you measure your dry ingredients in a glass measuring cup or some other way?
Yes - a glass volume measuring cup. The standard for measuring ingredients in Canada and the United States. Though I also have several older tin / aluminum measuring cups as well.
I see you use parchment from a roll, is this the frugal nature showing? Any advantage over the full sheets?
It’s more cost effective and I only use what I need

Can we come over and camp in backyard?😂
Always thought those were a waste of graham crackers and chocolate. Hate marshmallows with a passion.

Growing up overseas both on and off base we never had smores. They do not even sound good to me but then again I do not really like chocolate either.
Here in Ohio we know all about the smoke from your fires!😢
@ua-cam.com/video/fozfAtLiJqI/v-deo.html Gotta say that I'm fascinated watching the chocolate chips bounce on the moving hot marshmallows. 🤣
