  • In this video I take a quick look at a legend of the film SLR photography world, the Nikon F6.
    Not quite a full review I look at the Nikon F6 in the context of 2021 / 2022, a time when we have mirrorless digital cameras and DSLRs.
    The Nikon F6 had a lot of the technologies from the D series digital cameras crammed into a smaller body than the F5 but with the F5's film transport mechanism and shutter.
    If you like the video be sure to subscribe, and equally make sure you check out the second video coming soon where I take a much closer look at the Nikon F5!

    I don't shoot NIKON anymore, nor do I even shoot on film BUT I ache for this camera (with the battery grip of course!) in the worst way...great vid!

    Bought my F6 in 2006. Shot weddings with it and it was paid for in a weekend. Love this camera to this day. Use it for slide film as its meter is incredible.

    The F6 is the only Nikon film camera that has the same flash i-TTL system as modern digital cameras and is compatible with today's flashes.
    The F6 is the only camera that makes film assets management. It is able to print on a first black frame film filing datas and export on a card writer the film frames EXIF datas in an Excel compatible file. These datas can also be seen on the camera back screen.

    Not to forget that the F6 is the only Nikon film camera that has i-TTL flash as today's Nikon digital cameras have.
    Also a sort of EXIF datas internal memory that can be read on the backscreen and exported on a CF card as an Excel compatible file
    Compatible with big D2, D3 batteries that gave endless shooting over weeks

    Interesting stuff. I had no idea this model existed. When i was loving my Pentax MX in the early 80's i was secretly coveting the F3 that was far beyond my means. The Nikon models of those times with the exception of maybe the EM seemed to have the rugged build quality of those fantastic brick like Zenit slr's with the Japanese sophisticated handling and performance.

    I am thinking and thinking and thinking - do I need this? 😁. I have the F3, F4 and F100, but I have been dreaming about this for a long time. It is expensive, but not as a 50-70 year old Leica M. Thanks for this review coming at the right time for me.

    This is one of the "milestone" Nikon 35mm SLR film cameras in my opinion along with the Nikon FM3a. Both are great cameras to have but they are both very expensive. One thing in common for both cameras is that Nikon took the best features of their predecessor cameras and combined them to make a great camera. Nikon did that with the F6 for film cameras and the FM3a for fully mechanical film cameras.

      Absolutely. The thing which makes me love the F6 is it integrated tech from the DSLRs at the time into a film camera. It was obsolete almost as soon as they launched it but equally it has never been bested.

      It is interesting to note that the F6 was produced from 2004 to 2020. I agree that most people already moved to digital during that time. That is why I applaud Nikon for keeping the F6 in production for so long. More people are taking interest in film again so that may help maintain the value of used F6's just like the FM3a.

      I want the value to drop more so I can get one before it goes up 😆

    The f6 is the holy grail of 35mm, but totally out of my price range at well over a grand. So I went for a Canon Eos 1v instead, which is also an almost perfect camera.

    Yeah Nikon add Nikon developed the F6 because the very first digital Nikon , Canon and ... first megapixels camera's 10 Mega pixel. ? how many were they at the time it'd be hard-pressed to enlarge that picture up to 8x10 print , I've read that a 35 mm film is equivalent to 34 megabytes picture

    Many countries army and intelligence services bought this camera as digital cameras at that time needed many batteries and were too sensitive to electronic war.

  • @mathewrupp8568

    It's my understanding that the camera wasn't developed for pro's but the advanced amateur and collector, pro's would demand the changeable focus screen. The F5 would serve there needs better, pro's had a stronger reason to move to digital while armatures loved their film.

    • @HamerReviews
      @HamerReviews  Рік тому

      Not sure I quite agree with that, I know of a couple of pros that were using it. Press photographers definitely moved to digital by this point but there were a fair few that didn’t. Unfortunately most professionals I know are a bit too young 😆 so I don’t have a very large sample size.

      Focus screens are interchangeable on the F6, only the viewfinder isn't.
      The Canon EOS 1 line had no interchangeable viewfinders and nobody would never say that they are not cameras used by real pros.

    • @RonEMarks
      @RonEMarks Рік тому

      It was indeed designed for pros. The F, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were all the pro line. They realized by the F6 that “most” pros were not using the alternate finders and they were also considering the weather proofing that pros demanded. This F6 was the pinnacle of pro SLRs only peered by the Canon EOS-1v

      I’d check out good quality used dealers like Grays of Westminster. Brand new ones are almost impossible to find
