Can't tell you people how many times I heard this tune from the speakers of my folks Doulie' (named sexy sadie' of all things) in the central california foothills in the summer.
I actually don't believe it to be that overproduced, it has the same amount of layers going on as most standard Brian Wilson arrangements, it's just a ridiculously complex song to begin with. With classically refined instrumentation like temple blocks and tympani you can get away with it, but with synths and overdriven guitars it sounds abrasive. I think the original uploader has seriously undermined this effort with the "fun little track" comment, 'In My Car' is up there with Brian's most complex compositions.
@@jonathanmanuel5461 Honestly the sheer crazy, unleashed, uninhibited positive energy of this song is what grabs me. All stops out, no holds barred. Abrasive to some. Magical to me.
I agree. He was just using synthesizers instead of the Wrecking Crew. But arrangements are just as good. At first I hated this song, but it is very catchy and subtly complex. Similar to I Get Around.
Lyrics When I'm behind the wheel Horses of gas and steel The highway Is my home In fiberglass and chrome Fantasy car shiny Corvette Let's take a ride you can't forget Come on pretty lady ride with me (Chorus 1) In my car, I'm captain of my destiny In my car, pretty babe come Cruise with me (Chorus 2) Come for a drive And we'll arrive feeling alive I'm master of my fate When I accelerate My new Vette is my throne When on the road We roam we roam we roam Cruisin' like we're in a dream Feeling like we're still sixteen Being a part of the great American scene (Chorus 1&2) Cruise cruise cruise with my baby Now move move up in the stratosphere Zoom zoom zoom with me darling now We're still cruising after all these Cruising after all these years Wind blowing in my hair I feel like a millionaire Radio is blasting strong We're breaking out in sorry Blazing trails both near and far Park my car behind a star Life is full of possibilities (Chorus 1&2&2)
Given that Brian was under the control of Landy at the time, probably not. Listen to the Sweet Insanity sessions for what this would have sounded like.
this album version sucks ass and Brians endless summer TV live version is interrupted with interviews - we truly cant have nice things. can someone please cut together an "ultimate" version of this song??
Love the Beachboys and this song
Happy birthday to the greatest composer of the Rock and Roll era, the legendary Brian Wilson!
Thanks for all the music, like this '80s classic.
this song is part of the soundtrack of my life
I never get tired of listening to this one. :O
Killer killer song.
Yes!! Thanks so much for uploading this song, such an underrated great song
Severely so. Probably one of my favorite Beach Boys songs ever.
The Legacy, ever? You sure about that? It's a good song, but favorite?
They have so many underrated great songs!!!❤️
God honestly. This song is such a banger
Amazing song!
Why isn't this song on Apple Music? A Brian Wilson composition. Brian and Carl on vocals.
Alan also sings the second chorus.
Still want to buy this cd.
This was the second CD I bought- before I had a CD player (The first was Jive Bunny & The MasterMixers).
Do it.
@@NOWtheband How and where do I find the physical disc?
@@michaelmiller9692 - It's on the Still Cruisin' CD found online at Discogs, Ebay, Amazon or inside second hand record shops.

Right?! Wish it was on Spotify.
I like this song better than Let's go to heaven in my car.
Great song.
Lyrics
When I'm behind the wheel
Horses of gas and steel
The highway Is my home
In fiberglass and chrome
Fantasy car shiny Corvette
Let's take a ride you can't forget
Come on pretty lady ride with me
(Chorus 1)
In my car, I'm captain of my destiny
In my car, pretty babe come Cruise with me
(Chorus 2)
Come for a drive
And we'll arrive feeling alive
I'm master of my fate
When I accelerate
My new Vette is my throne
When on the road
We roam we roam we roam
Cruisin' like we're in a dream
Feeling like we're still sixteen
Being a part of the great American scene
(Chorus 1&2)
Cruise cruise cruise with my baby
Now move move up in the stratosphere
Zoom zoom zoom with me darling now
We're still cruising after all these
Cruising after all these years
Wind blowing in my hair
I feel like a millionaire
Radio is blasting strong
We're breaking out in sorry
Blazing trails both near and far
Park my car behind a star
Life is full of possibilities
(Chorus 1&2&2)
It’s a good song but does feel e bit chaotic and hard to understand but it’s unique.
There’s about 3 versions of this tune. This one is awesome 😎

Gotta agree that the composition is good and even the performance isn't bad but the production brings the song down a level
Ignore the psychobabble and it's a decent retro-type tune.
