    Hey mate great video. I will be in europe for a road cycling trip but would like to enter this event. Do you think I could get away with using 32m tires on this course? Thanks!

      Thanks a lot. I would for sure recommend going wider. I did it on 38s last year and I think wider tires would have given me more speed and control. In 2022 it was pretty wet and muddy, but last year super dry. there's a few place where you ride on something close to sand and also grass. I'm sure you can get though the race on 32s but I'm sure the ride will be much more enjoyable going wider

    Nice video! Really liked the music under the different parts, the fast pased music in part 2 really gives a feeling for how quick the cycling is. Would be really interesting to see power or heartrate data on the screen while cycling for extra feeling of the racing! Keep it up!

      Thanks a lot. 🤘🤘 it's a really great idea. 👍 I've looked a little into how to do stuff like add power and HR. Still haven't found the best way, but will add it when I find the best way 🙂

    Thanks for the video, you are pretty much telling my story! Had exactly the same experience (including a crash…) - but lots of lessons learned to give it a better shot next year! Good luck!

      Happy not to be the only one 😅 exactly, the lessons learned will only make us better for next your. Was it your first UCI gravel race too?

      @@gravelracingwithmadsbang yes, first one as well. I was on a cx bike, so I had limited tire width which could be a major point of improvement on that side. With all the sand wide tires will make a difference and help to stay on wheels. For me I didn’t eat well enough during the intense start, even though I had enough with me. When I had the crash my etap rear derailleur stopped working for a couple minutes, when it started working again I was out there with spent legs, a motivation blow and no real group… just need to find a tactic to not waste myself as much as I did in the first hour of the race and still be up there 🥹😅

      I think wider tires could lead to at major improvement! It's hard to know how long to hang on to the front, because you have no idea if there will be any good group behind. But you live and you learn. 😃

      @@gravelracingwithmadsbang at Unbounded last year, I ate like 5,000 kcal and drank over 2 gallons of water during the 100 mile race. But I was just trying to survive not win

    Great video, I was also there at the race and it was super hard, fortunately for my part I was able to qualify in my age group. From what you said on the video, a hydration pack makes all the difference in the world, I had two liters of water on my back and another 2 liters of carb and electrolyte drinks on my bottles and this allowed me to skip all the feeding zones and stay hydrated through the whole race. I went for a 40mm Continental Terraspeed tire and I think they were to narrow and slick for the sand sections where I always lost a lot of places, but they were fast enough on the compact and paved sections to make those places up. What is your plan to qualify? which gravel qualifying race are you doing next? Either way I wish success in qualifying.

      Thanks a lot 🤩 more videos are coming.
      How is it riding with a hydration pack? So you feel it in any way or is it just as good as I think it is?
      I sand sections were crazy! For a course like this It's not easy to find the right tires. I'm looking a bit at the race en Belgium, but I'm not sure. My calendar is pretty full all of August, so I not sure I can make it happen until next year. Hope you have a great race at the world champs 🏆

      @@gravelracingwithmadsbang You have to train to get used to a hydration pack, I've been using them for years in MTB so for me is like having nothing on my back. If you do the Huffa race in Belgium go for the widest tires you can fit on your bike, there are lots of MTB rocky sections and last year everyone was suffering with flats, I also flatted last year and lost too much time to qualify for the world's. Also be prepared because is quite a technical course.

    • @gravelracingwithmadsbang
      @gravelracingwithmadsbang  Рік тому +1

      That's great advise. I will test it and get used to it in training before using it in a race.
      Great info on the Huffa race. Not the best technical rider, so might not be the best fit for me. But it might be a good idea anyways. Still have lots to learn.
