This is absolutely brilliant! There is just so much stuff built into Resolve. You think you have a pretty good idea about what everything is, and then, bam! someone points out a feature like this. Thanks Qazi.
Omg this would've saved me so much time if only I knew earlier! Shockingly helpful tysm!! Also love how you're pushing for ppl to reach the Resolve User Manual. I mean what better resource then the actual manufacturer!
wow! right at the right time!! Just that happened to me with a client. I need to recover a delivered project and the editor needs to make edits while maintaining the color of 70% of the footage. I will try this tool and comment here. Thanks Qazi.
If they sort out the bug, which I'm sure will happen soon, this will definitely save you a lot of time. Oh, the 'RTFM' you're refrring to, that's so true!
I've honestly been sitting on my colour grading journey 😔 This week I'm jumping in again cos I have spare time. Your vids are always super detailed..! This very issue happened to a friend of mine, but he's married to Final Cut. 😢😢 I've sent him this and maybe he can hack his way through. 😅 Edit: THANK YOU for talking about the user manual!
Color trace relates on Reel Names and Timecodes, so maybe you should also explain how to properly set the project settings to have a correct reel name. (It's also important for a lot of things other than Color Trace)
Grading in remote grading mode also helps it relink to a new timeline brought in and keep tracking too. The only danger is that any future change you do will affect multiple timelines and multiple uses of the clip within each unless you’re very careful.
I didn't expect your final advise, very unusual for a tutorial video but RTFM is always a good idea! 👍And it's right there in the Help menu! Reading an official manual helped me countless times with all sorts of software ... if the company did give a toss about writing one of this calibre in the first place --- which can often be an issue also: videos are more entertaining while I procrastinate 🙂 Not sure RTFM still works these days for people addicted to TikTok and YT shorts with the attention span of an fruit fly.
Really helpful as usal! I love the noobs vs pro comparison. I also saw in your video some Nodes despite QT Nodes. Like the up down left right Nodes or Mask node. Did you used all these nodes in those shots or was it a fixed node tree? If yes can you do a video how you do were manage to create this look, with all the Nodes?
Excellent and super important tutorial. One theoretical question: what do you do if you graded in rec709 gamma 2.2 and after finishing the project you suddenly want it in a different color space for a different purpose. How do you do it quickly and efficiently?
Are. You. S#%tting. Me! I have literally gone through the exact ‘beginner’ process you demonstrated but with the added step of re-tracking the masks. In my case, I was the corporate knob who saw a couple of shots he didn’t like! 😏 🤯
@@theqazman I believe the tracking data gets copied over as well. It's a huge time saver, as long as the shots are in the same project file. The one downside is when you have multiple clips from the same shot, and you want to grade each clip differently. But my workaround is to create different versions per clip.
@@theqazman will do. Because of you I got the resolve membership to test out the program for color correcting and grading. I‘m still cutting in FCPX, but the difference in color is huge, although with your QT kit (still using the demo to play around) and your regular video tips.
These workflow enhancing tutorials are just as wanted as the color grading stuff. This saves so much time. Thanks man.
Same bro. I'm big on efficiency hacks.
brother you won the QT Halation or Film Density giveaway. Reach out to me via email with which plugin you'd like to get. 💪🏼
@@theqazman wow thanks Waqas!
Thanks, Qazi. No one that I’ve seen on YT has covered this. Great tip.
That's the entire purpose of this channel and glad to see it working. ♥️
The “DaVinci Resolve -18 colorist guide” will be helpful in this regard. Go to Page No. 203, "Copying Timeline Grades Using ColorTrace."

I felt the same when I discovered it. Happy to help. Enjoy brother.
relink the clips
Basic Q here but when you are ‘middle clicking’ how are you applying a grade from the stills?
wow! right at the right time!! Just that happened to me with a client. I need to recover a delivered project and the editor needs to make edits while maintaining the color of 70% of the footage. I will try this tool and comment here. Thanks Qazi.
Don't you love when that happens. I look forward to the follow up. ✊🏼
Qazi, you are always helpful, keep going.
Will do bro

Not the same at all. It applies changes as a blanket and not applying the metadata to individual clips.
Dude! Holy helpful!
You know it
Great and useful video! thanks again
You're welcome
they dropped 19.0.1 today ! maybe it should resolve this problem . amazing trick qazi , nobody i came across talked about , really helpful , thanks !

Ty. Me too. Fixed node tree. However I did use more than usual nodes for this campaign.
Qazi isn’t remote grade solve this issue in the same project?
Amazing!!!
This is so useful thank you!
You're welcome
Bravo you good speaker
Thank you for all you do.
I have a question.
when do you make use of Film Prints? What kind of projects? How do you know you should use a film print?
I use FPEs in most of my projects tbh.
@@theqazman Thanks Alot boss 🙏🙏 I guess I just need to understand how it works.
Or maybe I need to develop the right eye.
🚀🚀🚀 saves time always Feel DAMN GREAT !!!
Agreed
this video is so good

Just changing it in your odt
Great tutorial, I learnt so much from this. Now I'm no longer at Noob Level. 😎👍
Haha. I gotchu. ✊🏼
Very good. Greetings from Brazil

I NEED HELP!!!
Does anybody know why my preview window is darker and lower resolution everywhere except for the fusion page?
Can you please do a video on the new tool “film look creator” in davinci resolve studio 19
Will do
Hello Waqas ! Thanks for this vids ! Can you do a video about your complete node tree workflow at 6:24 ? thanks :)
Will do
Oi Waqas! Gostaria de saber se tem algum truque usando (magick Mask) sempre que vou mexer em algo ela perde o track! faz um video pra gente!!!!
Yeah, add some tutorial on how to use magic mask without lossing a track methods tips trick...thank u qazi 👌👌
great
I'm glad I woke up this morning
Aww 🤗
Are. You. S#%tting. Me! I have literally gone through the exact ‘beginner’ process you demonstrated but with the added step of re-tracking the masks.
In my case, I was the corporate knob who saw a couple of shots he didn’t like! 😏
🤯
Haha. Love that. You know how I do bro. ✊🏼
Thats amazing. And im not even a colorist per se.
Let's get it. 💪🏽💪🏽
Hmmmm interesting.. I don't have this problem yet.. but I want to create the problem and then try this out
I love troubleshooting so this sounds like fun to me.
The other colorists aren't making tutorials like this.
You know how I do bro. ✊🏼
Use remote grades!
Not the same at all. You'll be manually copy/ pasting even if it's in clumps and doesn't copy the tracking data to other shots.
@@theqazman I believe the tracking data gets copied over as well. It's a huge time saver, as long as the shots are in the same project file. The one downside is when you have multiple clips from the same shot, and you want to grade each clip differently. But my workaround is to create different versions per clip.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
1500 shots, you're not gonna do that. You'll manually color trace whole sections and save time.🙏🏿
I'm starting to think, too many nodes. Just too many. A lot of stuff applied to the shot.
Universal Studios, Blumhouse or The Weeknd didn't think so. 🤷🏽♂️
Thank you Qazi for this tip and I will definitely spend my next 5 days at a coffee place to eat up the resolve manual 😂🤌🏻
That sounds like a dream enjoy! Tag me on IG so I can share 🤗
