With a ton of work needed to be completed on my new 2015 KTM RC390, it was a last minute scramble to get two weeks worth of work done on the bike in only five days. Despite the challenge, come race day, my bike was ready for action. I headed out to round 5 of arguably the most competitive Ultra Lightweight Championship on the West Coast, the Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association. Following a year long racing drought and an extreme lack of seat time on my RC390 I chose the most STACKED competition weekend to pop my KTM cherry. The grids were 34 riders deep with competition capable of running times fast enough to put them on the podium in the Amateur 600 class. Despite the challenges, my goals were simple, keep the bike on two wheels and improve my times over the course of the day. I started the day with a 2:23 and ended the day with a best lap of 2:13.1, less than four seconds off my PR on my TZ150 of a 2:09.3 and less than two seconds off of my best time on a Ninja 250 of a 2:11.3. The issues on the bike that I am focusing on improving are the front end feel. I also noticed that the bike is a bit nervous/twitchy during fast transitions. Overall I think once the bike is dialed in I'll be able to go sub 2:09's.
KTM Aftermarket Spec's:
My RC is equipped with an Ohlins rear shock, Tyga bodywork, Driven Triple clamps, Vortex clipons, Shorai battery, Galfer front disc, and we had removed the entire ABS unit to get full use of my brakes and open up the airflow to improve cooling. - Авто та транспорт

thats insane bro! great job and video.
would you be able to tell me what the exhaust system is called?
Thanks! It's the Yoshimura Exhaust
Do you think by racing the small bike has any benefits on racing 600 ?
Absolutely. In fact I think anyone who skips the smaller bikes and goes straight to the bigger bikes is ultimately stunting their growth as a racer. The smaller bikes teach you all of the fundamentals necessary to be fast on a big bike. I can't even tell you how many guys will come out to the track on their 1000's and their 600's thinking they are the king of the streets and they get embarrassed by the smaller bikes when we go around the outside of them in the middle of corners or blow by them on the brakes. If anyone at any age is looking to get started in racing, I definitely recommend the smaller bikes. Plus they are so damn fun because you get to really learn how to push a motorcycle to its limits.
I hope you don't mind me asking your weight and gearing on the bike. Thanks in advance.
I'm 6'2 and around 187lbs without gear on.
Wouldn't those big under-tail exhaust add some weight?
+UnsungSandwhich We actually saved 4lbs from the stock exhaust.
Going nuts here, what's the name of the first song playing? Great video, enjoyed it.
Thanks! The first song is Jai Paul - Jasmine. Btw, the new race vid is up in the info!
How does the yoshi pipe sound as opposed to the stock?
It's A LOT louder deeper and throatier than the stock. On my channel there's a video titled KTM RC390 Yoshimura Exhaust that has a nice sound clip.
Whats going on with the clutch lever? Looks reversed
+Sean M I think you're talking about the brake lever guard. That guard protects the front brake lever so that it doesn't get inadvertently hit during a battle and cause a nasty crash.

That's a ton of stuff. I would recommend starting with the suspension (Ohlins rear and Andreani front) and then slowly go from there. You may find that you need a lot less of by slowly developing the bike. The must haves are the suspension and upgraded brakes. I went with the Shorai lightweight battery. Tyga is a great place to go through for body work and they have great rear sets. The other big thing I would recommend is the Driven triples.
Good day mate thanks a lot really appreciate your help and feed back the only drawback are the rims they are not of good quality, you have saved me a lot and lots of money can certainly work on my 2nd bike I really appreciate it will keep you updated :) thanks again for the help :)
why raise the center of gravity higher?
Well I don't think you're really going to raise the CG with an 8 pound exhaust when you have a 100lb motor in the lower front end of the bike.
what bikes were on the track mate?
+MrPanangelo There were RC390's, Yamaha R3's, Ninja 300's, and Ninja 250's.
how about the topspeed ?
We pulled out the entire ABS system since the bike is a race bike and losing the ABS makes the brakes stiffer, cuts weight, and helps with air flow to prevent overheating. Unfortunately when you pull out the ABS you lose the speedo.
how much dose that exhaust cost
+Shiv Prasad Around $720.
Gee thanks
u need to change the throttle tube..stock tube need to twist a lot haha
+Martin NCF Yep, and the stock tube has those stupid grip locks so changing grips is nearly impossible.
i already change it to another bike model throttle tube man,now easy throttle no need twist a lot.left side grip u need to cut it and just throw away because the stupid ktm use the glue and stick it lol...for the ride side grip both bar end have teeth to lock the grip, move the grip out of the teeth then easy to blow it out d...or u just give me your email i send the photo show u,after u check u will know it ^^
How is the bike performance ?
+Simranpalsingh Kohli The bike performance is great. I recently raced the bike again and I'll have a video on that race soon but the upgraded Andreani internals for the front forks lowered my lap times by 4 seconds. The grunt out of the corners on the KTM I would say is the best out of all the 300 class bikes. I'd say that the Yamaha R3 is the closest in acceleration coming out of corners. The weak points of the KTM I would say are it's nervousness. The bike moves around a lot particularly in fast changes of directions. My latest issue that I'm working on solving is getting the bike to finish corners and feel planted at the same time. We made a few adjustments to my rear shock which helped with stability but had me running wide. But overall the bike is awesome!
+bigwl3 Hi there thanks for the feed back I was too concerned about the stability of the bike might a over good quality rear shock and tyres might solve the problem ?
Yes definitely. I'm running the Ohlins rear shock and the Andreani front forks and they have improved the stability of the bike by leaps and bounds. As for tires I have been running the Pirelli Supercorsa's 120 front and 140 rear.
Got it thanks very very much for the tips am thinking of having 2 bikes instead of investing heavily in one one Ktm and another some 600 or 800 cc Ktm for nomral vlogging and other for weekends long drive vlogs that gonna be fun cause having only one expensive bike looks good in start but it easily bores one out lol after few month
Would have been much better without the music. Nice race anyway
Loved you video....i want that too...for my bike....if you could help...
+Anuj Bajoria Thanks Anuj!
