  • The Australian Native Rainbowfish and Turtle plywood aquarium, is just over 1 year old now. It looks great, but it didn't always! I managed to combat green algae by adding some very special items to this tank!

      Thank you! The natural sunlight shows the fish really well , when in person , but unfortunately makes video really difficult ( with the glass reflection). I may install some floodlights over the tank, and record at night also

      If only it was just a bit bigger, then I could cool off with a snorkel!

      Hey mate depends on the size of it
      I tend to look for lower branches that I can bend easy to make a new leader and to get taper in the tree then cut the top off or make a dead wood feature out of it
      Hope this helps u answer your question it’s hard to answer with out seeing the tree up close

      @Ryan_power1984 thanks yes t understand what your saying.
      I’ve been watching some Asian channels where they do a succession of wedge cuts all the way up the side to be bent over, and then bend, tie and tape

    Just curious, are there no native algae eating fish that you could add to combat the green algae, Ofcourse adding a pleco would be great but that would defeat the native theme you got going there. Also, do you ever does any additional nutrients for the plants in the tank to keep them going strong. Great tank regardless!

      The freshwater mullet are great, but other than those, only really Scats. They need seawater as they mature however, and also eat plants. Our Aussie catfish are all carnivorous- there aren’t any “pleco” type natives.
      I haven’t added any liquid fertiliser, though as you can see in the video, the Casuarina tree is suffering trace element deficiency. I have periodically added Magnesium sulfate to the tank. Thanks for your questions!

    Ever thought about a big bog filter, similar to what the outdoor pond dudes do?

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  2 місяці тому

      Yes, but in essence I have that in the emmersed rush growth. The root growth in the water column is insane, and they are sucking up nitrate, ammonia and phosphate. It’s just happening within the tank , rather than in a separate tank/pond.
