Agreed... who the hell pumps an accelerator pedal like that on a cold start. If it has an automatic choke one or two complete depresses would have been enough to engage it.
I remember Dad pumping 4 times, on the first startup, the accelerator on an old Yugo 55 we had, during winter. Then it would start and required only a moderate amount of choke.
@@KyleJHB I didn't even realise that the sound was him pumping it. My 240 with solex cisac start with the choke pulled halfway and one pump. No problem even when it's quite cold.
The lowest temperature at which I had to start my car was -27C one morning during a cold snap in January 2006 if I remember correctly. That car was a 4-year old Citroen Xsara 1.6i 16v (gasoline multipoint injection). The car had no preheating (almost no car in Poland has it, as temperature rarely drops that low) and the battery was not additionally charged nor taken out for the night after I drove the car the previous day, but the engine did start that morning without problem. It took only some 10 seconds longer than usual and after the start I had to release the clutch very slowly, as the gearbox oil was very sticky/viscous due to the cold. I had let the engine run for a minute with released clutch and the gear in neutral to make the gearbox oil a bit warmer before driving and changing gears. The ride was a bit more bumpy as the air pressure in tyres dropped, the rubber got harder and the oil in shock absorbers was more viscous.
