- In this video I've put together some of the best clips of old/antique engines starting up. In this video you'll see a lot of different old engines starting up. There is just something satisfying about engine cold starts - especially if it's an old engine that haven't been running for years!

Man that first one was dangerous, putting that belt on as the engine is running. I know it'd be harder to start but come on!
You should watch the way the got the belt running on the old thrashing machines.
they would loop it over the wheel and hang onto it until the they had the engine backed up enough to get the tension up.
back in those days they did what they needed to do. yes some accidents happened but honestly they were trained by their parents to be safe and they trained their kids to be safe
@@jamesrobinson5068 Doing what you described there sounds like the exact opposite of ''being safe'' tbh.
It's how it was done back then but i'm glad to live in a time where the chance of losing booger hooks to machinery is somewhat minimised.
@@ric84 if you heard of the old crank start on cars, if you didn't hang on to the handle just right or it had a quick way to come off when the car backfired it could easily take your thumb off

I have been working with that engine since age 12 , and belive me that is stupid to put that belt when the engine is running , why dont you just put that belt on before starting and asking for help to pull the belt in the midle and someone starting that engine ,

why was the second engine in the video not starting? is there a spark or ignition problem, or its simply Cold?. because it looks Like the fuel is going in but not starting.
That belt or pully at 7:17 and 19 looked so loose. this isn't safe, as the belt or whatever its made from, could collapse or yank out of the pulley.

When I was a kid a lot of the old timers had missing or bent up fingers from the day when those engines were still popular. Lots of places to catch a finger especially if you are wearing gloves. Just takes a second.
