    For anyone else interested, the standard drop link on a 2016 NC750X(applies to 2016-2019 NC750X's) measures 133.50mm centre-to-centre, giving a seat height of 827mm. This is with the forks being dropped in the front yokes by 10mm.
    Drop links with a measurement of 138.50mm centre-to-centre give a seat height of 819mm, thats 8mm lower than standard. Drive chain freeplay reduces by 7mm.
    Drop links with a measurement of 141.75mm centre-to-centre give a seat height of 809mm, thats 18mm lower than standard. Drive chain freeplay reduces by 11mm.
    Lean angle on the sidestand as standard is 8.9 degrees.
    Lean angle with 138.50mm drop links fitted(8mm lower seat height) is 7.8 degrees.
    Lean angle with 141.75mm drop links fitted(18mm lower seat height) is 4.1 degrees.
    This is why you need to shorten the sidestand(anywhere between 10-20mm depending on drop) when you lower the bike as it will be too upright on the side stand and likely to tip over.
    The 138.50mm drop links lower the rear end by 14mm measured at the rear wheel spindle(seat height drop of 8mm).
    The 141.75mm drop links lower the rear end by 24mm measured at the rear wheel spindle(seat height drop of 18mm).
    My chain freeplay as standard was set to 33mm.
    With the 138.5mm drop links it reduced by 7mm, and 11mm with the 141.75mm drop links, so whenever i adjust the chain i know that i need to reduce to chain up and down measurement of freeplay by these amounts in order to keep it correct.
    Best thing is set your chain adjustment with your standard drop links fitted to mid limit of 35mm, then fit your lowered drop links and measure the chain freeplay again, now you'll know what to set it to in the future because the standard 30-40mm freeplay measurement won't apply now you fit lowered drop links(it'll be too slack).

    Hello. As a manufacturer and distributor of lowering kits for these NC and other bikes. We test thoroughly. can I point out that you only did half the required steps for safely lowering a motorcycle. What you have shown here is dangerous. The front forks need to be lowered though the triple claps about 10-12mm. They way you did this will make the bike unstable under heavy breaking due to not re-aligning the bike’s natural geometry and handling.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  Рік тому +1

      The "rake" on the front forks is still at a very good angle, it's not a aggressive change like you see on choppers etc, so I would have to disagree.
      You can adjust the rear only without adjusting the front but not vice versa.
      Many company's on Google say the same thing.
      Thanks for your thoughts and watching the video 👍🍻

    That kit states that the bike is lowered by 35mm,thats around 10mm more that the inch you expected.
    Did you not bring the forks up through the yokes to correct your steering geometry? Kits from 'known' manufacturers such as Lust Racing recommend this,if I am not mistaken,so do Rally Raid.
    The manufacturer of those links you have there states that fitting them makes the bike steer quicker...not sure how this works as lowering the rear only increases the rake ! to steer faster the rake has to be decreased.
    I have used various makes of dog bones one different bikes for the same purpose you have from three different manufactures ,and on maybe five bikes and all suggest bringing the forks up through the yokes to compensate for the change in the steering geometr, irrespective of adjusting your preload..no mention of this here.
    Copied from another source.
    Rake is the angle in degrees of arc which the headstock of the motorcycle is inclined when compared against a vertical line drawn perpendicular to the ground. The smaller the rake angle, the less effort is required to turn the steering. Though, the motorcycle will be less stable in a straight line. Conversely, a larger rake angle requires more effort to turn but tends to make the motorcycle more stable at high speeds and helps maintain a straight course.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  4 роки тому

      Note the kit I bought I can't get a link for because they sold out so went to the next closest one. Yeap agreed, but no instructions with the dog bones. Steering feels the same to me. When I adjust the preload from level 1 to 3 it made alot of difference so it is now just over a inch drop now. I find it easier and suits me.

I did this on my Ex- NC750X however because the dealer told me i will never get the geometry right and this will affect the handling if I do it my self (no experience), so I Iet him do it for me against a small payement and the bike felt shorter 2 inches around but the handeling remained exactly the same.

      It has nothing to do with the overall height and everything to do with changing the rake and trail of your motorcycle. You have essentially turned your bike into a chopper...
      I only say this because I lowered my KLR650 1 inch with the dogbones and and raised the forks an inch so the bike is still somewhat symmetrical. The trail (distance in measurement from the top of the fork to your front axel) is the same but the rake (The degrees from the top of fork ) changes. Ride safe! @@exeterrider

      Same here, 2008 Vstrom 650.
      I'm 5'8" / 30" leg and bike is too tall.
      It'd be no biggie BUT this bike is proportionately Top Heavy - so the tiniest bit of lean angle - at a light, anytime not moving forward, and she wants to topple over.
      I've had many a street & dirt bike but none with so much weight up high.
      Love the bike otherwise it's fabulous.
      I will raise forks to match & "notch" (not shorten) side stand to increase lean angle which was too much 90 degrees from factory anyways.

      I have a few bikes lowered and one is a CB500x,a 2019 model with the 19" front wheel,previous models have an 18" front wheel.
      If you have a 19/20 model year you can fit the side stand from the 18 model year..you do have to fit the pivot bolt from the same 18MY as the shoulder is a different length due to the 'fork' on the top of the side stand being thicker.
      if you dont use the shorter pivot bolt you rick the side stand switch not working and also it leaves a gap on the outside of the 'fork' where dirt etc can get in and maybe bind up around the pin that operates the switch.
      This change of side stand allows the bike to sit leaned over as it did originally.
      I also have a big foot on my side stand foot so its even more impotant to correct this lack of lean.
      Of course,with the stand being steel,you can always cut and shorten the stand at the foot,then weld it back on again.
      I have a friend with an NC and he just took a grinder to the metal lug on the frame and that allows the sidestand to move in an arc further forward....this again allows the bike to lean further over,it also stops the bike trying to roll forward when parked on a downward slope...

    You do NOT show how to AJDUST the bike / suspension to get the bolts in with the lowering links!!!!

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  Рік тому

      Yes I showed that, nothing more to show there, bolts out, then new ones in, simple?

    • @ianb8416
      @ianb8416 Рік тому

      You would need to lift the rear wheel to get the bolts aligned and in - otherwise you’ve fitted the same dog bones, the new ones are longer to push the rear wheel back 😂

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  Рік тому

      That's why I used the piece of wood on the rear wheel to align it while the bike was on its centre stand 👆👍🍻

    Not correct since the angle of the Bike is not the same since you have not replaced the Side Stand
