    No love to Breville? They seem to be good for where they price their products. I like the bang for my buck and am impressed with all the details they put effort in. They look good (I only care for large items that have to sit out on the counter not be put away), having every bit and bobs store behind the drip tray, the use of little magnets to lock pieces in place. Surprised no one else has picked up on these details.

    • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi RC84, I have given lot's of love to Breville in previous videos like this one: ua-cam.com/video/2F7etUZrzKQ/v-deo.html which point out many of the details you mention. The reason Breville did not make this list? It's in the title. This video is about "Machines". In my book Breville products are appliances. Breville does a fantastic job of putting desirable features into their products at an attractive price point. The design touches like tray storage, accessories, excellent manuals and even the power cord are top notch. In the end there are sacrifices in build quality, materials, serviceability and longevity to get to a price point.

      @@Wholelattelovepage Hi Marc, was thinking of getting an expresso machine which is how I landed on Whole Latte Love. My predicament is that at entry level the only two decent machines available is the Delonghi EC680M DEDICA & the Gaagia Classic which is almost double in price here in India. Is the Gaggia Classic worth double the price? What's your suggestion?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому +1

      Hi K, a couple of key differences... The Delonghi is an appliance grade product. The Gaggia is a true machine - it's user serviceable down the road and parts are readily available. Delonghi uses a smaller than standard pressurized filter basket. That's good if using pre-ground coffee or grinding fresh in a lower cost grinder. The Gaggia has the pressurized basket as well as a standard non-pressurized basket and it's full commercial size at 58mm. With a decent grinder it can make a much bertter espresso than the Delognhi.Marc

    Sup Marc! Thanks for your always informative videos.
    In that one video you did about the Bezzera BZ07, you say that a pre-brew flush is needed while in this more general a video you say that HX machines with a PID do not need a pre-brew flush. Is the Bezzera BZ07 an exception when it comes to that?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 роки тому +1

      Hi t, You are welcome and thanks for the comment and question. There are many HX machines with PID that can go without the flush. But there is some variability. Should a machine be on and idle for long periods the temperature can creep up. Also ambient temps, shot frequency and temp of water in the reservoir play a roll. Best thing to do is check the flow of water from the group prior to pulling a shot. If there's lots of steam, hissing, turbulent flow then the machine should be flushed for a few seconds until flow from the group is nice and even.

    Hi Marc, I choose the 700 over the synchronica because 700 was 2019. I get it in a week. For me it was a $200 difference. So little. Technically synchronica was only $100 more because I would not have to buy a tamper. I get why you choice for synchro over 700. I can even change my mind as I don't even get 700 in a week. But I think I made a really solid choice and I stand by it :)

      Hi DW, Thanks for the comment. I like both machines! My daily driver is a Pro 700. As you discovered, the Synchronika comes with the tamper. @@Wholelattelovepage Agreed. I absolutely LOVED how the r58 looked. Just stunning, but I need an onboard PID and didn't love the insides compared to 700. I thought r58 was nice of all of them. Synchro was great and I tested. Loved the levers. 700 was not even in stock for me to see or test out. But 700 was newest update. If Synchro had a 2019 update, I would probably have got it. But 700 is such a solid decision I feel. You could loose your mind trying to decide :)

    What are the benefit to plumbed in a machine other than not doing refills ? It seems in your video there is a difference for pre-infusion when plumbed in or not? Is the ECM synchronika would still be your top choice for someone who do not want to plumbed in?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому

      Hi Jean, Thanks for the question. There is a difference in preinfusion in non-plumbed vs. plumbed machine. When not plumbed what you get is pre-wetting. Just a little water pushed out of the boiler but under very little pressure. When plumbed, ECM and Profitec dual boiler, rotary pump machines like the Synchronika and the Pro 700 apply incoming line pressure to the coffee at the pre-infusion postion of the E61 group lever. Not all machines do that as most manufactures have a solenoid valve on the plumbed in connection which only opens when the pump runs. With the machine plumbed in you can install an in-line water filter and use a pressure regulator to control the pre-infusion pressure. Water filters are always a good idea on dual boiler machines as they are rather difficult for home users to deacale. A system like the BWT Bestmax can eliminate the need to descale a machine: www.wholelattelove.com/bwt-bestmax-premium-filter-package This system does all the normal things filters do like remove chlorine and particulates. Then goes a step further and exchanges scale causing calcium with magnesium. This exchange maintains a mineral level for proper extractions and good flavor while eliminating new scale deposits.

    Hi Mark. I have a Nespresso creatista plus. It claims it does latte art and is a great machine however it’s fully automated as it has different settings to texturise the milk. Any tips for getting some decent latte art with this in your experience? Many thanks

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Marc, Sorry I have not used that Nespresso product. For latte art you want the finest possible texture to the milk and a uniform texture through the milk prior to attempting a pour. Honestly, I have not used many non-traditional frothing methods which are good at producing latte art quality froth. If you really want to do art it's best to froth with a manual steam wand. That said, one can help less than perfect froth by knocking a pitcher on counter to break larger bubbles, swirling milk in pitcher or pouring milk back and forth between two pitchers to create a finer well mixed froth. Hope that helps!

I am from europe where these machines are little bit different thanks to the EU legislation (of course in a bad way). Anyway offered Gagia model is modified one by seller - has the same materials, has selenoid valve and had same materials as old Gaggia clasic. Plus it has disabled auto switch off functiality. This special model has also changed aluminium difusser with brass one. Machine is still quite cheaper. What do you thing. Is it still big difference compare to more expensive Rancilio? What is difference you think there is between coffee from K-cup machine and espresso machine?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому +1

      Hi LC, Thanks for the question. The brewing process is similar in some ways. Keurig and espresso machines both force water through ground coffee under pressure. In most cases, the pressure is higher in an espresso machine. The major differences: K-cups are much more expensive per serving than starting with whole bean coffee. Typically 2-4 times the cost. Average K-cup contains about 8g of coffee. Quality whole bean coffee can be purchased for $20/kg. At that price, 8g is 16 cents. espresso and coffee made from freshly ground whole beans is far better with more aroma and deeper flavor than pre-ground coffee in a throw away plastic cup. All that said, many consumers are willing to trade quality and higher per cup cost for the convenience of Keurig appliances. But there are bean to cup super automatic machines which are even more convenient. They cost more upfront but produce a much better coffee at a much lower cost per cup with no plastic to throw away. These super-autos can make regular size cups of coffee, espresso and make milk based drinks like cappuccino, latte and more. Best value in this type of machine is the Gaggia Brera: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-brera-espresso-machine-in-black

      Hi NH, Congrats on getting married! So marriage is forever right? your machine and grinder should be too! If you like the Breville's go with it. But... Understand they are appliance grade products. Unlike your marriage they are unlikely to stand the test of time. If thinking longterm I'd really consider a true machine grade product. The Classic Pro is machine grade. If you'll be doing a lot of milk drinks consider a machine with an HX or dual boiler. You'll tire of the wait on a single boiler machine (or appliance) to steam milk. Check out my top picks for 2019 machines! Hi JK 24, Thanks for the questions. There's a huge flavor/quality difference between ESE pods and grinding fresh! That said, for many ESE pods are acceptable and offer convenience. They reduce the initial cost of getting into espresso as you don't need a grinder. But you are compromising on quality and long term they end up costing more in comparison to grinding your own fresh. To the best of my knowledge most packagers of pre-ground coffee use nitrogen packaging. I do not know for certain if that is the case for all.
      Honorable mention machines generally have the same capabilities as the winners in each category. In some cases they cost more but have the same capabilities. In others, they may a have a slight advantage but a much higher price that's difficult to justify in comparison to the winner. Was there a particular honorable mention machine you'd like to know more about? If so I'd be happy to compare and give my opinions.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому

      Hi FP, Thanks for the question. So the Classic is a single boiler and the Office Lever is a HX boiler. Very different using each machine as you cannot brew and steam at same time on the Classic and you can on the Lever. If you don't do milk drinks a lot then a single boiler is fine and can save you $$. If you do milk drinks all the time you will regret a single boiler at some point unless you are willing to sacrifice convenience for lower price. The Lever is the best value in HX machines. If you go single boiler options are ECM Casa: www.wholelattelove.com/ecm-casav-semi-automatic-espresso-machine
      and Rancilio Silva: www.wholelattelove.com/rancilio-silvia-m-espresso-machine
      Casa is worth the money compared to the Silvia. Much better build quality.

      Hi Dec, Thanks for the question. Both are very nice machines. You say price is not a problem but will mention here in the US the Linea costs a lot more than the Synchronika. Personally I prefer the Synchronika. When plumbed in with a pressure regulator you can do whatever type of pre-infusion you like on the Synchronika. On the Linea pre-infusion is preset and to best of my knowledge not adjustable. Also like the shot timer in the display of the PID on the ECM. Characterizing the taste differences is difficult given the variables involved. I will say you'll get more control over flavor with the ability to adjust pre-infusion as you like with the Synchronika. Hope that helps!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому +3

      Hi John, I use a GS3 on a regular basis but do not use the mini. For me, it's hard to justify the price difference between something like the ECM Synchronika and the Linea. Linea ropes you into a factory preset pre-infusion. On the Synchronika or Profitec Pro 700 you can line pressure pre-infuse however you like when plumbed in and adjust the pre-infusion pressure via a pressure reducer on a filter system like this: www.wholelattelove.com/bwt-bestmax-premium-filter-package (that's how my Pro 700 is setup). If getting a dual boiler machine I strongly suggest an in-line filter system! As far as I know, the US version of the Linea is not plumbable. I like the shot timer so I'd miss that on the Linea. We've steamed side by side with the Synchronika and the LM GS3 and performance is about the same. You can see the Synchronika and GS3 steaming in this video and learn more about the recent steam pressure upgrade to the Synchronika: ua-cam.com/video/1dlNkWFsAIQ/v-deo.html Hope that helps. Hi Rony, Thanks for the question. Forgetting about pre-infusion the ECM and Mini are equally capable. They both deliver accurate brew temps etc. With the ECM plumbed including an inline pressure reducer as described in my comment above you can play with pre-infusion time/pressure to affect an extraction. You could in theory do Slayer style shots with long low pressure pre-infusion with that setup. It's my understanding pre-infusion time/pressure on the Mini is preset and not adjustable.

The applainces do not have the same build quality, longevity expectation or user serviceability you'd get in a hand crafted machine. But, they are reasonable for those with a lower budget seeking a larger feature set than you'd get in a similarly priced machine. Very important to keep up on the maintenance of Breville products. • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 років тому +3

      Hi Saad, Thanks for the question. 3very different machines. The Pro 300 and Gaggia Classic are true machines while the Breville is what I consider appliance grade. What that means is the Gaggia and Profitec have a much higher build quality. With proper maintenance they'll run for decades. If/when they need service it can be performed by the end user. The Breville is not user serviceable and I would not expect anywhere near the service life of the appliance vs. the machines. What the Breville offers is a lot of features for a low price. The Breville is factory made in China with lots of plastic parts. Both the Gaggia and Profitec machines are hand assembled in Italy. The Gaggia Classic is a single boiler machine. It cannot brew and steam milk at the same time. The Pro 300 is a compact dual boiler machine with PID temperature control of the brew boiler. With dual boilers you can brew and steam milk at the same time. With PID brew temps are rock solid as compared to the Gaggia Classic which uses standard thermostats for temperature control. The thermostats allow for a variance in boiler temp so brew temp is not as consistent as what you'll get on the 300. Hope that helps!

Brews per hour - frankly that's more about marketing than a true specification. Time between descaling... we recommend using source water/filtration that eliminates the need to descale in the first place. See BWT Bestmax Premium for a no descale required filtration solution which maintains a mineral level for proper flavor/extraction: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestmax-premium-filter-package-w-besthead-flex

      Additionally - E61 is very old and time tested tech. Which means even if something breaks, it's simple to replace yourself and the spare parts are not that expensive. You buy these machines for decades.

      I'll also add Profitec E61s now use a stainless steel mushroom. This reduces scale buildup. Stainless steel mushrooms have been standard in ECM E61s for about 8 years.Marc

      I'm not quite sure why everyone thinks just because the best coffee comes from Italy, the components of a machine are best made there as well. You ever owned a Fiat and experienced real Italian engineering? 😂

      Me too! I love it (920XL), but it blows the black gasket on the portafilter. looking for more serviceable yet easy to use.
