Nice! I did the 5200 meter from DIckson when I was about 16 years old, carrying one of those wilderness battleship Grummans that weighed 78 pounds. Those longer portages will put you through the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance), followed by the five stages of portage grief (pain, despair, resignation, submission, numbness).
My wife and I moved overseas to Borneo 7 years ago and this series makes me want to move back to Ottawa so I can enjoy Algonquin's sights and sounds again. Thanks for these truly superb videos and making me homesick for the first time in a long time. Cheers.
Chris, you and Julia have become such great "friends". Love each and every episode and as for the highlight; quite possibly the "climb over the barrel to the bow seat". Cheers and thanks again!!
Finally got some time to watch some of your videos. Beautifully filmed. And Julia looks like a lot of fun. Love her personality. I can see why you fell for her. Thanks for sharing, Chris. You rock.
Great work as usual! I love Julia's spontaneous singing and I am glad you didn't hurt yourself on the log. Here's a short but cautionary tale. Two summers ago as I was setting up my food hang, I stepped on a rotten log. Within seconds, I was swarmed by some angry, threatened wasps. Now I avoid walking on rotten or semi-rotten logs. I' was so glad that the stings were minor.
I have genuinely learned so much about camping and canoeing from watching your videos. Thank you for posting them. Please keep them coming and keep going on adventures. We love you!
I feel lucky to have stumbled upon your channel, as you guys are under rated for sure! As a fan of camping/Canadian outdoors and filmmaking, this channel is perfect for me! Thanks, great videos!
Wow your video's are some of the best I have seen on You Tube ! After watching your trip, I am really looking forward to my own Algonquin trip in 3 weeks. Good stuff.
I get excited when I see new vids from you two. They're so uplifting with your positive personalities and cheery banter. Your skills in filming natural beauty are 2nd to none. As for long portages, as tri-athletes you understand the rewards from hard work. I'm slightly handicapped and I sweat all day in rehab for increments. But I sleep well at night knowing I'm better today than I was yesterday. :-)
I so look forward to watching these videos of you both and the stunning scenery, you both horse'sin around and the music at just the right spots and just the right tunes. I can take my shoes off, sit back and relax and enjoy life at it's best!
I've said it before an I'll keep saying it. You ladies rock!!! It brings back such great memories of canoeing there. You bring a smile to my face watching your videos. Keep up the great work and be safe.
Hey Chris. Been following your channel for a while now and have to say you are making some of the best outdoor content on youtube. period. You have a true gift for film making and editing. Even better, you and Julia give off such an infectious air of positivity, fun, and happiness at being together and at enjoying the outdoors. It's such a rare quality to find on youtube and a real treasure. Only wish you'd find a way for the fans to give something back! Maybe some affiliate links or a Patreon? Got to be able to afford that next latest and greatest gimbal!
My wife and I did this loop the other way around years ago. Always thought Lake La Muir was one of the prettiest lakes in the park. The climb up out of Hogan on the 3.7 km portage was not to be forgotten. Love your photography. Looking forward to more.
Your series captures so much of what it feels like to be in Algonquin. Thanks for the stunning imagery. Lots of inspiration to draw and paint. Cheers Chris and Julia!
Discovered your YT Channel recently from the Art of Photography. Skiing, skating, running, cycling, swimming, filming, editing: Is there something you do not excel in ? I mean, wow. Love your voice too (and the car stunts).
Another outstanding and satisfying video. Nothing better than coming home from a rubbish day at work and seeing a new upload from Chris & Julia 😊 Canada & Algonquin are both highly on my bucket list. Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration 👍
Couldn't wait for this next video to come out in the series. Such an inspiration, really captures the feel of the park. That 3.7 portage is no joke, well done!
Your third day video inspired my wife and I to go to Big Crow and do the firetower lookout as well. Going in 3 weeks, can't wait. Wouldn't have though to do it without watching you and Julia. Thank so much for sharing this content with us all.
Love the canoe-centric lyrics on those classic tunes! Too funny. Also, you gals are the only ones Ive seen paddle with the barrel upright. I did that for many years as well! (And never had it tip over too!) 🙌
Loving the videos learning so much. I just love sitting back and relaxing while watching your channel. One of the best on UA-cam (I watch a lot of UA-cam 😞). My only wish is that the videos were longer. Looking forward to the next one.
You really pick the best music and how you edit the film to the music is really amazing. I can't put my finger on it, but it really goes together beautifully.
I love to watch your videos. This one is no exception. I didn't know of the existence of Algonquin park. I only wish it was closer to Portugal. Again is a joy to follow your adventures! Thank you for sharing. Keep on smiling. All the best.
Hi C&J really enjoying watching this trip and your other trips. After watching your film and KCHappycamper I sought out somewhere near me that hires canoes and took my son for a short trip for his birthday (7) and I'm happy to say he loved it and can't wait to go again he also watches your films with me (when he can sit still long enough😄) so I'm now in the process of looking into getting our own canoe to explore some of the other rivers/canals nearby I'm looking at 16ft 3 to 4 seats as my little girl wants to come but not yet she wants to be able to swim better (her choice not mine lol) she's only 4 but so headstrong.... So thanks for inspiring us, I might be able to convince my wife to give it a go when she sees the fun that can be had... Keep up the excellent work you do in producing these films. Thanks.
I was supposed to go to sleep but my internet started working and the girls uploaded another video. Sleep is over rated anyhow. Your videos are so awesome.
Wonderful and awesome trip. I have been to Algonquin a few times and only did one backcountry trip with Canoe (no portaging though). Night times are scary especially if you know a bear is around. You are really brave.
Just a thought. On long portage's we have found that if the person not carrying the canoe grabs the stern and guides it it makes it much easier for person who has to carry it, because they can walk with both arms down. It works for us anyway. Thanks for sharing the video with us.
Hey! Thanks so much for this stunning series. Last year I did the same trip on basically the same schedule (thus far), so I'm dying to see where the route take you next. On Hogan at 9:35, that tiny island is a magnificent spot for lunch after the grueling 3.75er... for next time, of course.
Was having a pretty stressful day but after watching your guys' video i'm feeling a lot better now thank you :) Also Julia's expression along with the music stopping at 18:04 had me cracking up 😂
This is great you two! Like how you filmed everything, the music and editing...Good stuff! Hope you get out there for more adventures and bring us all along. Thanks for sharing! (thumbs up)
Hi Chris, Julia. amazing video as usual, as someone else already said, hate waiting for new videos , I love it because the quality is incredible & watching makes you feel like your actually there. Such a beautiful park, you guys are great. Just wondering, What was the temperature there? Thank you again for sharing, all the best , Tom.
Thanks so much Tom! The next one will be up much sooner - already working on it! I think the temperature was hovering somewhere between 10-15°C that day :)
I just bought a Katadyn Be Free filter bottle. It is so amazing and fast I might never use my regular Katadyn pump filter again! A half-liter of water in about 10 seconds! I HIGHLY recommend it to you and all outdoor adventurers.
Thank you! Yep - I'm filming with a GX85 on a PilotFly H2 gimbal. You can find more detailed info about my setup in a video I posted last summer called "How to vlog with a 3-axis gimbal" if you'd like to know more. Huge fan of your channel and Robby's vlog - you guys rock!! :)
Nice video! I go to a summer camp in Algonquin each summer called Camp Tamakwa. I made a drone video of the scenery a few months back. Keep it up! (portaging is the worst)
Unbelievably awesome videos ladies!!!!! Best on the net by far! Watched all your videos. Chris you are an awesome videographer and editor. True professional!!! Cancelled my Rogers TV and now watch your videos only!!!!!! You must be working in tv post production..yes?
Did you guys bring a professional marshmallow roaster with you we never saw or are one of you the best roaster I’ve seen? Those were perfect, I need one now! 😁
What was the temperature? It looks kinda cold even though it's August. :( Thanks for all the work you put into filming, editing and sharing your adventures! I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago and I subbed 5 minutes into the fisrt video lol
Between its length and elevation change, Hogan - Big Crow might be the best workout in the Park. The long ones tend to be flat ... but not that one. It is a nice feeling when you reach the height of land, though.
Good morning ladies, nice work on the 3.75k portage , fitting to wear your ironman/women💪💪💪 hats 😊, How long did it take to navigate? Not many bird sounds in the one, the chickadees in one section, by the vegetation it looks to be early spring? I hope you're having a wonderful summer, thank you for the adventure. 😊😊🇨🇦👌 ,, Bob,
Thanks for watching Lindsay! No, we didn't compete this year, though I did watch the live feed of the finishing line... always inspiring! Did you race IMMT?
I am just at the beginning of your video , I saw you pick up the canoe and then in a flash you were putting it down . Was that a portage or a telaportage ? Lol. Alright, back to the rest of the video .

So glad to hear - thanks AJ! :)
I feel lucky to have stumbled upon your channel, as you guys are under rated for sure! As a fan of camping/Canadian outdoors and filmmaking, this channel is perfect for me! Thanks, great videos!
Thanks Joe! Welcome to the channel :)
Love you, girls! (from Calgary) I'm in a wheelchair now - my days of Algonquin are over - but living it again through you! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you're enjoying them! :)
Great job Chris and Julia. The area reminds me of the Adirondacks where I live. Just beautiful.
Thanks Ricky! Hope to make it to the Adirondacks in the future :)
Wow your video's are some of the best I have seen on You Tube ! After watching your trip, I am really looking forward to my own Algonquin trip in 3 weeks. Good stuff.
Thanks Ken! Nice! Hope you have a great trip - whereabouts are you headed?

Thanks Doug! One day at a time - keep up the great work! :)
I just love how supportive you are of each other you always say nice job and well done you guys are awesome
I so look forward to watching these videos of you both and the stunning scenery, you both horse'sin around and the music at just the right spots and just the right tunes. I can take my shoes off, sit back and relax and enjoy life at it's best!

Chris/Julia love the videos! Keeping you both in prayer, have fun be safe.
Thanks Mike! :)
Your videos are so amazing and your editing job just tops it off I love Algonquin and canoeing. Algonquin is so amazing
Thanks so much Carson! It really is an amazing place :)
I'm 12 and I go on at least 2 trips into the backcountry of Algonquin every year
Cool! Do you have any tips on great lakes to camp on?
I like going out of cedar lake but the 2345 m portage is pretty hard. Any for you?
I've wanted to make outdoor blogs but I don't have a good camera 📷
Thank you Chris and Julia for making us smile.... Very good as always.. Jim
Glad to hear - thanks for watching Jim! :)
My wife and I did this loop the other way around years ago. Always thought Lake La Muir was one of the prettiest lakes in the park. The climb up out of Hogan on the 3.7 km portage was not to be forgotten. Love your photography. Looking forward to more.
Thanks Carl! Character building for sure :)
Great video. You two work so well together. Love the adventures.
Thanks Bill! :)
Why am I melting away watching this video, loved it. Thank you Chris and Julia :)
Aww! Thanks so much Sookie! :)

Thanks Alastair! You should totally go for it! :)
Couldn't wait for this next video to come out in the series. Such an inspiration, really captures the feel of the park. That 3.7 portage is no joke, well done!
Thanks DK! It's a doozy! :)

Chris Prouse your a very talented youtuber. Amazing! Keep up the great work! Great story telling!
Loving the videos learning so much. I just love sitting back and relaxing while watching your channel. One of the best on UA-cam (I watch a lot of UA-cam 😞). My only wish is that the videos were longer. Looking forward to the next one.
Glad to hear - thanks for watching Harrison! More coming soon... and another trip coming up! :)
Harrison B yes we need these great videos to be longer. Im guilty watching youtube too much.
Are those campsite free or do u need a permit. Beautiful out there.
Permits are required, though you book by the lake, and then the campsites on it are first-come-first-serve, so we try to get in early when possible :)
You really pick the best music and how you edit the film to the music is really amazing. I can't put my finger on it, but it really goes together beautifully.
Thank you so much! Glad to hear :)
I love to watch your videos. This one is no exception. I didn't know of the existence of Algonquin park. I only wish it was closer to Portugal. Again is a joy to follow your adventures! Thank you for sharing. Keep on smiling. All the best.

Country looks so beautiful, and you two are so engaging, could watch this for hours! Great job!!
I was supposed to go to sleep but my internet started working and the girls uploaded another video. Sleep is over rated anyhow. Your videos are so awesome.
Haha, thanks Luke! :)
Wonderful and awesome trip. I have been to Algonquin a few times and only did one backcountry trip with Canoe (no portaging though). Night times are scary especially if you know a bear is around. You are really brave.
My hat is off to you ladies. Well done.
3 ish miles.. you guys are insanely AWESOME...
Nice People, awesome Country, great Editing!
Just popped in here to check out the hogan-Big Crow portage ( it’s on our fall trip itinerary) As always, a delight to (re)watch ❤
Great adventure. Wonderfully filmed and edited.
Love your trip videos, they always make me happy - thanks for sharing 😊

Great couple/Great adventure!
Excellent video once again!!!!! ☺
Thanks for the Algonquin fix. I haven't been able to get there, this summer.
Thanks for watching Charissa! There's still time - you should go for it! :)
Hi Chris, Julia. amazing video as usual, as someone else already said, hate waiting for new videos , I love it because the quality is incredible & watching makes you feel like your actually there.

looks like really good fishing
For a moment, we were herding the fish upstream underneath the canoe - couldn't believe how many there were :)
Perfect end
Thanks for watching Renata! :)
The camera work on this is ridiculously steady! Are you using a Gimbal or some type of electronic stabilizer? Thanks for taking us with you!!
Finally a new episode😊 I hate waiting for them.
Haha, the next one's going to be up much sooner - already working on it! Thanks for watching :)
Nice vid. I feel like I'm there. Man that canoe is getting heavy!
Love the "idiot check"...lol! another fun and beautiful video!
Thanks Kelly! :)
Nice video! I go to a summer camp in Algonquin each summer called Camp Tamakwa. I made a drone video of the scenery a few months back. Keep it up! (portaging is the worst)

Very good video editing and music and ...!
another great one! Looking forward to the next one. Wish I could "like" it twice.
Aww! Thanks so much! :)
These videos are great!
Loving the series ladies and especially the portage song 😂
Keep the videos coming
I love your videos... keep up the great work!
Thank you! Glad to hear - more coming soon... and another trip coming up! :)
Great video! How do you two decide when you are going to wear your Tevas/sandals and when you are going to wear shoes?
Just like watching some good programming on tv! love it!
Did you guys bring a professional marshmallow roaster with you we never saw or are one of you the best roaster I’ve seen? Those were perfect, I need one now! 😁
Wonderfull!!!!!
Thank you! :)
What was the temperature? It looks kinda cold even though it's August. :(
Thanks for all the work you put into filming, editing and sharing your adventures! I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago and I subbed 5 minutes into the fisrt video lol
Thanks so much Jin! This was actually a spring trip in early May before the bugs came :)
Between its length and elevation change, Hogan - Big Crow might be the best workout in the Park. The long ones tend to be flat ... but not that one. It is a nice feeling when you reach the height of land, though.
Awesome workout for sure! Thanks for watching :)
Hi Chris I just played it now all was good thank you
Glad to hear - thanks for watching Clifford! :)
having memories of doing the 3 km portage from Killarney lake to three narrows. and then the was Th"PIg" .
god choice in tent and stoves. looks like you have a elixer 2 and a simmerlight
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video
love the portage songs :).. - I guess god bless carbon fibre too with that portage
Going the old fashioned way!
How do you keep your fresh food.. fresh for so long?
Really loving your videos, made me look into getting more out there myself :D
Love the music you use for your videos. Where do you get it?
What time of year was it when you went? Also what time of year do you prefer to go and why? Thank you! Nice Vlog
Where did you get that backpack rig for the plastic barrel? It's an awesome setup for canoe camping.
Wow! 3 hr portage. How long did Opeongo take to paddle?
Thanks for watching! I think the paddle up Opeongo took about 3 hours too... though we had a pretty good tail wind that day :)
Noice!!!
Thanks guys for sharin.
Be well,
Thanks Scott! Same to you :)
😊😊🇨🇦👌 ,, Bob,
Thanks Bob! Yes, this was early spring... I believe the portage took about 3 hours - character building for sure! :)
Chris Prouse very nice,, great job,, nice choice of words,, 👌🌹🌹😊🇨🇦
I love how you respond to everyone's comments! Just starting the video. Did you do the ironman at Mt. Tremblant this weekend?
Thanks for watching Lindsay! No, we didn't compete this year, though I did watch the live feed of the finishing line... always inspiring! Did you race IMMT?
Chris Prouse haha. No I didn't compete. I walked a half marathon a few years ago but that's about the best I can do! Loved the video!
The Right Said Fred parody was great! Julia is the Weird Al of Algonquin.
Great stuff! We just got back from a 7 day in Algonquin, driving rain for 5 days straight. Miserable :(
Thanks Josh! Yikes - sorry to hear... that must have felt like a long trip!
Poison ivy everywhere on me too. Toughest one we've done in 8 years of Algonquin, for sure.
Oy, hope you're feeling better soon! Maybe another trip in September? ...fingers crossed for better weather! :)
Can I ask how heavy is your canoe? It's amazing you gals can tote it on the back for hiking!!!
what's this canoe? the shape is beautiful .
I like it
Finally new episode! Why you're punishing us with soooo long waiting periods? :P
How heavy was that pack?! It looks huge!
Thanks for watching Andrew! I think the barrel's usually about 40lbs, and the backpack's closer to 50 when fully loaded :)
I'll keep watching if you keep posting. Your videos are amazing!
Holy smokes that's heavy. :)
I am just at the beginning of your video , I saw you pick up the canoe and then in a flash you were putting it down . Was that a portage or a telaportage ? Lol. Alright, back to the rest of the video .
Hahaha, telaportage :)
