Jackie convinced Chris to do a lot of his stunts himself. I love this film and the bloopers at the end are the icing on the cake 😊
You can thank stuntman turned director Hal Needham (Smokey and the Bandit) for this trend. He invented it and used it on The Cannonball Run in 1981 where Jackie was co-starring in and since then he liked it so much, he uses it in all his films and it is contractually required of him by the Japanese market.
Chris ended up doing all his stunts.
Rumble in the Bronx is a great Jackie Chan movie.
The thing about Jackie is that he actually does the stunts. He doesn't rely on camera angles or CGI. The man actually has the skill and the perseverence to get it done, and the out-takes are a great tribute to that. He (and others) sometimes get hurt to entertain us, but he accepts that cost. What a legend.
He's been doing it for a while too ! One of his favourite story is when they were filming Enter the Dragon in 1973, he was an extra who was suppose to be fake kicked by Bruce Lee but he actually kick him by mistake...Bruce was super sorry and he was kinda faking being hurt just to talk to him and he actually got a great conversation with him after it...Been in movies for a long time !

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker was a great comedy duo for the whole trilogy. another great comedy duo with Jackie Chan was Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon, a western trilogy.

What's really unbelievable about Jackie Chans performance in this movie is, is that it's not even his peak level of stunts and action. The stuff he did in a lot of his older Hong Kong movies is even more crazy. And it's all "handmade", no stunt-doubles, no CGI, no green screen, nothing of all the stuff they use excessively these days to make action scenes that turn out half as good as his stuff.
And a huge comeback for Jackie

@@lexkanyima2195 Yes, it was an attempt to put his name on the map in Hollywood, that was looking for "the next Bruce Lee". Maybe I got the definition wrong, but to me, a "comeback" implies that someone was very successful, than had a period where the career dropped before getting big again.
That doesn't apply to Jackie Chans career at all. He had a successful career way before 1980 in Asia and continued to do so even internationally during all that time, just not with movies produced in the US.
And you could even argue his breakthrough of an US-production was Rumble in the Bronx a few years before Rush Hour.

I had no idea who the hell Chelsea Clinton was when I first saw this movie, hell I didn’t know who she was until maybe 10 years after the movie came out, but the way he delivered the line still made me laugh.
There's an interview with Chris where one of the questions was how was his experience working with Jackie. Chris had nothing but high praise and respect for Jackie in his recollection, but the part I remember the most was Chris saying Jackie's work ethics pushed him to be a better actor and person during the shoots. Chris said that Jackie would arrive on set in the early morning even if he wasn't needed on set at the time, he supposedly scolded (in a not so serious way) Chris for not being on set and ready on time, and how Jackie respectfully treated everyone involved in the production and not acted like a Hollywood diva.
Also, apparently, the Director being a big fan of Jackie wanted him to handle the action and stunt co-ordination whilst the Director handled everything else. If this is true, then that's a smart Director, you have Jackie Chan available why wouldn't you want him to consult at the very least.
Jackie's Chinese action movies...his stunt work was unbelievable!!
History Lesson: Japan is a big financial supporter of Jackie Chan's movies. One of their contractual obligations with him is that he always includes bloopers at the end of his movies. This was something that first started thanks to Hal Needham, stuntman turned director who did Smokey and the Bandit, who first used "credit footage" in his credits in 'Hooper' with Burt Reynolds in 1978. Then in 1980, he included actual bloopers with Smokey and the Bandit II. It was so popular, he used it again in 1981 in The Cannonball Run where Jackie Chan made one of his first Hollywood debuts thanks to his parent company Golden Harvest producing the film. The outtakes were such a highlight, Jackie decided to use it on his next Hong Kong directed project, and since then, the Japanese market have requested it be in all his films released there.

Drunken Master 2 on a VHS tape was my introduction to Jackie and to date still ranks up at the top - his stunt work was near perfection and Anita Mui as his mom is my fave movie mom ever.
That's one of my all-time favorites as well! I think Jackie was around 40 years old when that was made, dude was moving like he was 20. Fantastic stunts and fights.

Police story, project A, rumble in the bronx are all great, but armour of god 1 and 2 are still my favourite jackie film, but there many other great films
It says something that the most unbelievable thing in this movie was that a car blew up from having C-4 in the trunk explode when shot. LOL C-4 is very stable and will not go off from being shot, burned or electrocuted. It takes a blasting cap to set it off. The stunt work is always nuts in Jackie Chan movies.
Seeing that the dealer was pretty low level, could he have been dumb enough to have put an Exploding Cap on the bomb?

@@Easy_Skanking At least this movie stuck to its own rules: “this big a hunk” of C4 blew up the car, “that big a hunk” of C4 blew up that floor; therefore the amount on Sooyang’s vest WILL kill Juntao if he set it off inside the room. Plus, tweaking C4 to be easily detonated by regular small arms, makes it consistent why nobody dared to shoot around it in the end battle.

From what I remember, there aren't too many illusion breaking moments in Jackie Chan movies. They are just consistent fun.

Excellent reaction guys! This is definitely one of my favorite action comedies of all time. Jackie and Chris are gold together, haha. Also, on the main poster for the film it reads, "The fastest hands in the east, meets the biggest mouth in the west", lol.... That is basically the entire film in a nutshell, haha. Always loved that promo :)

There's so many Jackie fight sequences to recommend but one that comes to mind now is the step ladder scene in First Strike. I remember watching it at the cinema and being mesmerized.

Also, I had forgotten all the actors in this movie since I haven't seen it in forever. Relationships to movies like "Cliffhanger", "Shawshank Redemption", "The Perfect Storm", "The Sum Of All Fears", "Kiss The Girls" and "Reservoir Dogs". All good movies for any you two haven't seen. A good cop movie set in the Asian community is "Year Of The Dragon" with Micky Rourke. It's a definite watch recommendation.

I love Jackie Chan! He has done so many amazing stunts and fightscenes during his career and i hope you watch more of his movies. I prefeer his Hong Kong movies but the Hollywood movies is also great

My favorite thing to come from this franchise is the enemies to best friends that Jackie and Chris did irl. Neither liked each other when they started filming this movie and what not from what I've heard Jackie thought Chris was too lackadaisical and Chris more or less thought the opposite of Jackie. He thought he was too serious, didn't know how to have fun. By the end you can clearly see the friendship between them

Fun fact: C4 is actually really stable. You could shoot it, hit it with a hammer, hold a blowtorch to it, even _microwave it_ and it won't detonate. And it's as malleable as modeling clay. That insensitivity is precisely why we use it as a plastic explosive - very versatile and controlled detonation criteria.
Also, I haven't seen this movie in a LONG time. I didn't previously recognize that it was so casually racist with all that dialogue 😮!!

Veeeeerrrry little known piece of trivia the GNAAARLY old taxi driver is a bonafide martial arts legend “judo” Gene LeBell who had storied careers in martial arts of various disciplines. Professional wrestling, stunt work and acting. He’s done stunt work in over 1000 films and tv shows, including the green hornet with Bruce Lee. During which he became close friends and training partners with Lee.
I think "Supercop" and "Jackie Chan's First Strike" are probably Jackie Chan's best. And with "Supercop", you also get Michelle Yeoh!

In case it was not evident in context: In one of the bloopers, where Jackie Chan flubbed the Chinese line “I believe Juntao is behind all this” into “I believe Sooyang is behind all this.” Credit to Chris Tucker for evidently understanding what the flubbed line means, cuz as y’all saw, he walked over to the Consular and demanded to know WHAT THE HELL’S GOING ON WITH YOUR DAUGHTER?!😂

Two Chris Tucker movies you should see is "Friday" and "The Fifth Element". He is not the main character in either but he is one of the best parts of both.
Do you know the one involving a stash of diamonds, and in the end Chris Tucker revealed that he had stolen a single diamond and made it into his new ear stud?

Might I recommend the Burt Reynolds movie Cannonball Run, as it features Jackie Chan's first venture into American cinema.
Its not a very good movie but it was a part of Jackie's original attempt at American movies in the early 80s.
I really want someone to react to that. I only saw it once, with my grandpa, but I remember enjoying it.

You two should definitely check out some more Jackie Chan movies. I recommend both the Police Story series (especially 1 and 3) and Drunken Master 2 (the first one is not required but may assist in understanding a few things). Be sure to also watch Rush Hour 2. It's probably (at least in my opinion) the best of the trilogy.
Also Who Am I. One truly iconic stunt, and a ton of FANTASTIC fight choreography.

That was where I was introduced to the history surrounding Britain and Hong Kong - a topic that I’ve further researched and can I say that if Hong Kong stayed under the British, I’d give anything to live my life in Hong Kong instead of being heavily detained and dehumanised by the Hong Kong police (thanks to the current influence and harsh actions of dictator Xi Jinping)?
Chris Tucker is also awesome in Fifth Element, Friday, Jackie Brown and Silver Linings Playbook. If I were to give Tucker a role it’ll have to be Herman Schultz/Shocker in an Andrew Garfield Spider-Man flick. He can play any character without having to pretend to be Detective Carter or Ruby Rhod (Jackie Brown being an example).
As for Jackie Chan, he did an amazing conspiracy action thriller called The Foreigner - I highly recommend it 💯 & zillion, he can also be serious AF without being goofy yet still doing physically demanding shit.

When Sam expressed excitement to explore Jackie Chan films I let out an audible "Let's GO!".
After Rush Hour, I think the best suited for you would be his Police Force series which is as follows.
-"Police Story"
-"Police Story II"
-"Super Cop"
-"First Strike"
After that, some of his other classics would be really fun, such as "Drunken Mater 2" or "Operation Condor".
Also the one in 1988 called Miracle something, the one where he is a benign mob boss and he ends up pulling ALL of the strings to Maintain A Fairy Tale for someone he owed his Good Luck to.

Recommended Jackie Chan Movies: Police Story, Supercop, Rumble in the Bronx, Drunken Master 2, Wheels on Meals, Who am I.
unfortunately, jackie was already out of his prime when he made this film (the fact that he's still amazing is a testament to his talent). if you ever want to go down the jackie chan rabbit hole, may i suggest 'Police Story 3: Supercop' (sometimes just called 'Supercop' in certain markets). it's a standalone story and is a perfect 'gateway drug' lol to jackie's movies. what's particularly special about this movie is the fact that Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All At Once" fame) co-stars and they're both forces of nature. of course you can start watching the Police Story movies in sequence, but 3 is a great way to test the waters...
His best work was in the 1980s, in his prime, he set the bar for action films for decades to come. By the time he finally 'broke into' the American market he already entering his 40's.

The US produced Jackie Chan movies usually feel like watered down Chan compared to his Hong Kong films. The only US films of his I really like are Shanghai Noon and its sequel Shanghai Knights. For Chan at his best try Armour of God, Armour of God 2: Operation Condor, Project A (his tribute to silent comedians), Wheels on Meals, Drunken Master 2 (his best pure martial arts film), and his Police Story movies.
Fun Fact: C4 Does Not explode without a trigger, so shooting at it shouldn't affect it.

Jackie Chan doesn't actually know Kung Fu, he trained at the Chinese Opera (basically, circus acrobatics and stunts like Cique De Solei) This is where he met life long friend Sammo Hung, who actually stared in a lot of Jackie's movies. Hung also Directed a lot too.
He knows Kung Fu, the term simply means mastery over something. Kung Fu is in everything we do. If you think he hasn't mastered anything, you're dead wrong.

I saw the second and third in theaters. I remember in August 2001 when seeing Rush Hour 2, the theater was FILLED.
I saw the third one in theatres August 2007. The theater was filled also. I remember the dialogue couldn’t be heard in some parts cos the audience laughing so hard
