This story had such a huge impact on me as a child. It made me feel fortunate that I had so much more than she did, but it also reiterated my belief that nobody cared if my sisters and I were cold.or hungry or abused. Nobody was going to save us.

I am sorry to hear about your difficult childhood. Like the little match girl we can always rest in God's arms both here on earth and in heaven. I'll pray for you

I don't know about heaven, but I like what you are saying. It's sounds great. Here on earth she had a horribly hard life and she was hungry, probably abused and desperate. She froze to death during the Christmas time. Let's hope we'll learn something from this wonderful story. @@littlelamplighters

I"m adopted.. aka a trafficked child. An adult survivor of being a trafficked child. I'm Indigenous, Cree, adopted by a rich white family. I was unloved, mostly teased and made to stand out in humiliating ways. I learned to excel, so I wouldn't be targeted. didn't work. My skin made me the target, not my intelligence or behavior. I always had to be twice as good to be considered half as good.
I loved this story as a little tiny girl. I identified with the little match girl... her alone-ness. When she dies, it's a release from the coldness of being alone while there's people all around you.

I didn't have love either. I was taken in out of obligation and not nearly enough pity as much as obligatory stances. As soon as I was 17, out I went, into the streets and even before then, I ran away constantly and lived in the street. Life still sucks and still I'm homeless. I just wish I could die already. I'm such a loser, I can't even do that right.

Soo very sad! I saw the play and I believe it was a ballet in Akron Ohio at the EJ Thomas performing arts hall in December 1985. I don't remember the actors names or who played the little girl! Very poignant and beautifully performed as I recall!

This story reminds me of myself. I knew she was dying when the goose jumped off the table. I've had a terrible life and even now, it's not gotten any better. I'm homeless again and have been for almost a year again now. Many winters in years past, I can remember looking in through windows of families that were so fortunate to have love and security and food. I was always alone and no one's child, my whole life. How I wished to be taken up to God but it just won't happen. I really hope this is my last year here. So I can see my best friend, my dog again. I don't even care to see anyone else.

The voice and the music are touching and appealing as well as the illustration. The narrator's voice has great intonations, emotions, enunciations that brings the story to life. Very enjoyable!! Worth listening again and agian.

@@littlelamplighters I wrote an essay that’s a sequel to The Little Match Girl: Anne-Marie’s Biblical Bond
In your imagination, what do you think if a godly, impoverished, young child ends up befriending a generous, wealthy family nearby? Well in your life, God blesses them no matter what.
On a cold, dark New Year’s Eve, Anne-Marie (nicknamed “Mary”), who’s a bare-headed, poor, little girl with little, purple, naked feet tried to sell her matches, and earn a single penny in the street, but no one wanted any. In an alley between two havens, she warmed herself up by lighting her matches, and saw three soothing sequences of vision: a large iron stove, a lovely, roast goose, and a glorious Christmas tree, but they vanish when her matches burn out individually. In the nighttime sky, Anne-Marie saw a shooting star, which her kind, old, late grandmother told her that when stars descend, souls arise to God. Anne-Marie lights up her fourth match, and sees her clear grandmother, then a whole bundle of them, making her larger and prettier as they glow brighter than noonday, then transfers her granddaughter’s soul up to God. On New Year’s Day’s sunrise, the sympathetic witnesses saw the frozen, happy Anne-Marie, but they were clueless of her three soothing sequences of vision, and her grandmother’s comfort. Just then, a male prime minister named Mr. Lindenwood comes by, and abolishes the witnesses from panicking, for he’ll help Anne-Marie while they resume their normal lives, so he elevated Anne-Marie, and beseeched the Strockell family nearby to escort her inside their warm haven for a reverent recovery.
Mr. Lindenwood deposits Anne-Marie on a comfy sofa, and he and Mrs. Strockell worked together to rotate it before a huge hearth, conjoining a Christmas tree, and Anne-Marie got herself kindled for several moments. Mrs. Strockell’s househusband, Dr. Strockell, cradles Anne-Marie’s pale right cheek, and feels it slowly kindling, then told his housewife that Anne-Marie’s reverently recovering, then evacuated her silently waiting for Anne-Marie’s enkindling, and Anne-Marie did several more moments later to find herself at Mrs. Strockell’s haven. Mrs. Strockell told her that a male prime minister found her frozen happily, then escorted her there. When Anne-Marie realized that Mr. Lindenwood was the male prime minister who escorted her to Mrs. Strockell, she befriended him, then he made her read Proverbs 22:9 New King James Version (or standing for NKJV) from his Bible, and it showed Anne-Marie about how generous, wealthy people help the godly poor no matter what. Afterwards, Mrs. Strockell’s housemaid, Lucille (nicknamed “Lucy”), gave Anne-Marie food and clothes for sharing, and the witnesses didn’t recognize that she was the frozen, happy, poor, little girl that they saw before when she strolls with Mr. Lindenwood. On New Year’s Day’s sundown, Anne-Marie returned home to tell her parents the good news, then they let her return to Mrs. Strockell for adoption, and she’s presently in her custody. Do you like the way that Anne-Marie was given a warm haven? Yes, because that wealthy family was generous of her.

There is a moment in ones life when they are helpless and blind to the help they need. Homelessness Starts as so. You will be homeless before you realize the faults. Meager paycheck to paycheck is only enough to make perceived needs met. Once there is a catastrophe, and that stability is sunk. You are reliant on those around you to help. However many around whom could help will pretend you are not there cause you are a disgrace to society.
We need a better system of housing. Those whom think they can only afford rent may not understand they are paying more than those with a mortgage. I don't know the answer... But I feel housing first.. Think as the person living in the street. You can Sleep, you can get a good meal, you can work. But there is only enough time in the day to pick two of those three... ... I wish I knew the answer...

Such a shame that the real English is not even spoken anymore but by just a few people who attended private schools. This accents makes no sense, it has ruined a beautiful language.
