Even in fiction it is difficult for me to imagine a world where, even during the holidays, people would completely ignore a poor, freezing, starving little girl. Why did the people wait until after the girl died to feel sorry for her? That, I think, was the lesson the author of this story wished to convey about the plight of the poor and the homeless. That, and the belief that the poor, neglected little girl had, thankfully and most assuredly, found a better place.
Things haven't changed, much. I was recently scolded for giving someone $ in a parking lot because "They're mostly scammers." Knee-jerk despising of poverty lives on.
This kind of story was more common than you think. There were child workers in the Victorian England who worked long hours in factories to make pennies to help feed their relatives and parents.
This was my favourite story in one of my books as I was growing up , it was so heart warming and so painful as I child I also felt pity on a poor soul .
I first heard this story on an old-fashioned 12-inch vinyl record. It was a collection of tales by Hans Christian Andersen. I recall listening to it several times and always being stunned by the bittersweet ending. Later, I learned that Andersen wrote this story to stir the conscience of the citizens of Copenhagen, where there was a wide gap between rich and poor and little to no organized charity for those in need. Bravo to the reader and the artist who illustrated this classic. Sadly, I think many of us still turn a blind or judgmental eye to the poor and homeless.
People don't just turn a blind eye, society creates the poverty and homelessness. There's no prosperity for middle class on up WITHOUT poverty and homelessness. that's how evil society is.
The Little Match Girl movie was my favorite as a child, over 60 years ago. I've never been able to find it again. This narration is very nice! Thank you.
Well I wasn’t expecting that ending🥺😢🥹. When she looked up to the Christmas tree and followed the burning candles 🕯️ and saw a falling star 💫 it was her soul that was dying. Then the next match showed her grandmother coming to get her. Then lighting the remaining bundle of matches her grandmother came and scooped her up and they both flew up to the heavens. Now the little girl is forever free from the misery of being poor, cold and hungry. 🥰😌
This story and the sadness goes back to victorian times and still this sadness goes on and it's 2023 the poor the homeless and soon to be 2024. A new year and still there will be homeless people and young people and animals that need loving homes and are on the streets dieing not so much from the cold weather just plan neglect and who are hungry that comes with homelessness and this empty governments and who's ever to blame. This story was about a poor little girl who died of the cold but ends up with the warmth and love of her beloved grandmother and the blessing of God's Heaven😢
Thank you Sir for this beautiful narration. I read The Little Match Girl when I was no bigger than her. Now at 50, as Christmas is around the corner I thought about her and searched her story hoping someone would have hugged her and said, " Come home with us, have a hot meal by the Christmas tree" and she survives. It's just my wishful thinking 💕 Merry Christmas Little Match Girl 💕

@@littlelamplighters And I wrote an essay which is a sequel to The Little Match Girl: Anne-Marie’s Biblical Bond In your imagination, what do you think if a godly, impoverished, young child mysteriously befriends a generous, wealthy family nearby, and eventually gets adopted? Well in your life, God will always give them a blessing of generosity no matter what. On a cold, dark New Year’s Eve, Anne-Marie (nicknamed “Mary”), who’s a bare-headed, poor, little girl with little, purple, naked feet tried to sell her matches, and earn a single penny in the street, but no one wanted any. In an alley between two havens, she warmed herself up by lighting her matches, and saw three soothing sequences of vision: a large iron stove, a lovely, roast goose, and a glorious Christmas tree, but they vanish when her matches burn out individually. In the nighttime sky, Anne-Marie saw a shooting star, which her kind, old, late grandmother told her that when stars descend, souls arise to God. Anne-Marie lights up her fourth match, and sees her clear grandmother, then a whole bundle of them, making her larger and prettier as they glow brighter than noonday, then transfers her granddaughter’s soul up to God. On New Year’s Day’s sunrise, the sympathetic witnesses saw the frozen, happy Anne-Marie, but they were clueless of her three soothing sequences of vision, and her grandmother’s comfort. Just then, a male prime minister named Mr. Lindenwood comes by, and abolishes the witnesses from panicking, for he’ll help Anne-Marie while they resume their normal lives, so he elevated Anne-Marie, and beseeched the Strockell family nearby to escort her inside their warm haven for a reverent recovery. Mr. Lindenwood deposits Anne-Marie on a comfy sofa, and he and Mrs. Strockell worked together to rotate it before a huge hearth, conjoining a Christmas tree, and Anne-Marie got herself kindled for several moments. Mrs. Strockell’s househusband, Dr. Strockell, cradles Anne-Marie’s pale right cheek, and feels it slowly kindling, then told his housewife that Anne-Marie’s reverently recovering, then evacuated her silently waiting for Anne-Marie’s enkindling, and Anne-Marie did several more moments later to find herself at Mrs. Strockell’s haven. Mrs. Strockell told her that a male prime minister found her frozen happily, then escorted her there. When Anne-Marie realized that Mr. Lindenwood was the male prime minister who escorted her to Mrs. Strockell, she befriended him, then he made her read Proverbs 22:9 New King James Version (or standing for NKJV) from his Bible, and it showed Anne-Marie about how generous, wealthy people help the godly poor no matter what. Afterwards, Mrs. Strockell’s housemaid, Lucille (nicknamed “Lucy”), gave Anne-Marie food and clothes for sharing, and the witnesses didn’t recognize that she was the frozen, happy, poor, little girl that they saw before when she strolls with Mr. Lindenwood. On New Year’s Day’s sundown, Anne-Marie returned home to tell her parents the good news, then they let her return to Mrs. Strockell for adoption, and she’s presently in her custody. Do you like the way that Anne-Marie was given a warm haven? Yes, because that wealthy family was generous of her. Oxford References: Hans Christian Andersen. The Little Match Girl. She always use to read me lots of stories and I use tộ listening 👂 with all my heart and interest ❤ how wonderful the days back then miss my childhood memories ❤
I'm not crying...you're crying. I remember hearing this story when I was a kid. I was stuck in the hospital over Christmas and remember having this story told to us. On Christmas Day, I got to open my gift...it was some kind of 'Ker-plunk' game. I played it with the other kid, named Hubert, who I shared a room with. His family was fairly poor, so all he got was a coloring book and an eight pack of crayons. So when it was time for me to finally go home, I told Dad I wanted to give Hubert my game. I was worried that he would not make it out of the hospital, because he had been there for a long time before me. I though that he could at least have fun for a little while, if he wasn't going to live...just like the girl in this story. He did live after all and we became friends that winter. Even though we've grown apart, moved away, and have not been in contact since...I still wonder if he is still alive...and remembers me? It's stories like this, along with the spirit of Christmas that brings out these memories and feelings. It's why I look forward to Christmas every year. Thank you for sharing this story...Merry Christmas!
@@midnightblue3226 I was in and out of the hospital in Broadview (Saskatchewan, Canada), with broken bones, severe allergies, and numerous other 'kid-related' injuries.
I guess it is hopeful in that those of us that see this can look beyond ourselves and our own families at Christmas (and throughout the year) and do all we can to help those that are suffering. It is also hopeful in that we don't have to fear death. We will be taken by our loved ones and escorted into heaven. Death is not the end.

Throughout our lives
We may believe
Each of us has an angel
Sent to us from heaven
With miracles up his sleeve.
I stand here before you
And hold this as true
My angel was with me
That night I could not see.
I drove not alone
Loved ones came too,
Front seat and back
The rain blocked our view.
I stared straight ahead
To go on the green
The car turning left
Was not to be seen.
He sped to his turn
Not having the light
I started the same
As having the right.
It would have been deadly,
Instead it was strange
My wheel jerked to the left
As the light did its change.
His car moved to speed
My car had moved too,
The hand that had helped me
Was not mine to heed.
Believe it or not,
Dear reader, it's true
My angel was with me
My faith born anew.

Merry Christmas to you too...what a heartwarming story...
@@midnightblue3226 I was in and out of the hospital in Broadview (Saskatchewan, Canada), with broken bones, severe allergies, and numerous other 'kid-related' injuries.
thank u so much 4 this beautiful memory u have given all of us who grew up with this story
Really glad to hear that. Thank you so much!
This story traumatised me from early childhood. 60 years on and i still struggle with someone who is hungry. If i can, i always try and give food.
Thank you, a Danish Christmas fairy tale that made me cry as a child mixed with the German Christmas song Silent Night, Holy Night 😭

Thank you, it's my favorite story and it's so sad ♥️..
This is sad; however, I’m happy she went to Heaven with her Grandma
I remember this story from when I was little. 💔
Thanks for watching!
Great story. A story full of hope!
Thank you so much my dear patron. As you can see I am answering very late
Right, it's bursting with hope - if hope in your world means a little barefoot girl hallucinating while dying of hypothermia.
The Moral is To Never Give Up HOPE!😊💖 One of My Favorites from Childhood. 😊💖🎄🙏💖
It's terribly sad pitiful 😢 a very understandable story, very well explanation
and concept as well...
Thank you so much. It helps see homeless people in a different way doesn't it? :)
@@littlelamplighters absolutely! and the foremost lesson from this story is one should not ignore those in need. no selfish nor insensitive. Being kind charitable toward those who are helpless or homeless... that's the true way by lord Jesus :)
Amen!@@Wokz-Rj
@@littlelamplighters same to u! I'm an Indian but i have a lot of belief on Jesus... extremely splendid! fantom-story, fairlytale it has always typical for me.
I am glad you liked it@@Wokz-Rj . I believe too that's why I don't find the story sad. As her story doesn't finish with death but GLORY! :)
