Ohh Ms Carla, I’ve missed you for several days. Trying not to be too pushy but I have a request. Can we go back to the garage of your parent’s house with your sister? Be brave and ask your sister to go with you. I want to see that you’ve tackled this mountain and that you would finally be able to put that garbage behind you. But I feel your sister probably should help you so you don’t feel so overwhelmed. I’ve come to love you and your sister and love seeing you both tackle something huge together. Wishing you and your sister so much love and happiness. Blessings Ms Carla. 🥰
I'm glad she kept the caftan! I think the kids these days call it "rich childless desert aunt aesthetic" or something like that. I bought my first one this summer. My husband came home one day to me wearing it, drinking a martini and watching Murder She Wrote. He said I achieved my peak, and was absolutely correct. Keep the caftan. Get more. Love being you.
“Rich childless desert aunt aesthetic,” this might be the funniest description of a dress that I’ve heard!😂 I was going to call it a moomoo and I still can’t believe she kept it!😆
I think she should put shelves inside the right side of the closet (from front to back). Then she can put folded sweaters, jeans, etc on the shelves along with the cloth drawers holding scarves, socks, swim suits (but ditch the ripped hanging thing they go in). Much easier to see and put away everything easily.
Agreed, that’s what I thought. And she could get rid of those hanging shelves which block the energy and store those items in some containers on the shelves
Yes, I was thinking shelves or a tall dresser. Also agree that maybe she could store her out of season stuff there in plastic bins. However, I want to see what is stored in that spot.
When I was living in NYC 🗽 my closet was exactly like that one. The way i arranged it was by using that “dark, hiding” spot to store my plastic containers with seasonal clothing. I could easily store up to 17 boxes on top of each other. Top boxes I put all my fancy shoes that I could only use in special occasions. NYC is a very hard place to declutter because there’s not many places to drop unwanted clothes.
As a person who also has been down sizing her wardrobe for years, I can speak to hanging on to clothes and shoes you never wear because they are cute and you may wear them one day. It’s tough in the first declutter, however, if you declutter each time you switch seasonally, you will realize that you are not going to wear those items. Turning hangers backwards helps. Switch all her hangers to one type that is not those tiered hangers would be a good transition. You can see everything you have and there is no way to tell if you wear it. I would move all the special occasion wear in that not easy to access corner. Clear the dresser of things she doesn’t wear and move everything in the hanging storage to the dresser. Set a timeframe to wear shoes or let them go. Keep only special occasion shoes that work w the special occasion outfits. Store away off season clothes on the shelf above or under her bed. She might even buy one tall IKEA PAX and get rid of the shoe rack and the dresser. With shelves and pull out wire baskets you can actually store both. Looking forward to part 2.
I’d call the green “dress” a Mrs Roper dress. You know 3’s Company. Mrs Roper the land lady wore those types of dresses with bangles and beaded necklaces.
I also call it a Mrs Roper dress!!!!! 😂 It just makes sense. lol I think they’re aging less a skinny Minnie 20 something wears it. Maybe this opinion is Mrs Roper’s fault. She was only in her early 50s on the show. I thought she’s was pushing 70 at the time. I don’t know… 🤷🏿♀️
Oh you are killing me! The show drops at 8am Saturday morning and I can’t lie in bed and watch it this weekend, because I am selling my unwanted clutter at a market! 9hrs later…..I can finally watch😱
So so glad you both tried on the tent dress, I was dying to see it. Looks like you had a lot of fun and so did I. Looking forward to the next one, you brighten my day.
Great video Carla ❤Jess gets THE BEST wardrobe award. She has great style and fashion sense. I was surprised that she was able to let go of some of those pieces so easily.
Enjoying watching this closet declutter on Saturday morning Jess has great taste in clothing and shoes, peach pumps gorgeous! Looking forward to Part two.
Hate closets where you can't see or reach everything. It's like the builder and the shopping companies working together.....I can't reach my clothes so I have to buy new ones. Just have to say also what an amazingly nice painting she had next to the wardrobe and as usual you are such a happy star when you declutter Carla.😊
I recently finished going through my wardrobe….and I feel SO MUCH BETTER knowing that everything in my closet fits me, I enjoy wearing all of it, and most importantly everything has a place. The third thing is So Key!!! For so long I’ve been living with clothes piled up around my room, clean clothes always in the laundry basket that had nowhere to go, or draped over a chair….. because I bought so much there wasn’t drawer or hanging space. And the things in my drawers and closet, half of it doesn’t fit or if it does I couldn’t notice it. Now, when I do laundry, it feels SO GOOD to know that I can fold everything and put it away and have an empty laundry basket, clear floor, clear space. Literally it’s a weight off my soul. Not to mention how much I enjoy picking my outfit everyday, I feel like I have unlimited options and can really highlight the things I love, now that I know where to find everything. It took me maybe six months to get here…. Several rounds of decluttering, even revisiting some areas when I could see clearer what I wanted to keep. I would pick one type of clothes a session, like a pants day, a longsleeve day, an athletic clothes day, a shoes day…. I had to try every garment on, so doing it in smaller sections and only when I had a ruthless mindset, really helped. Many times I watched one of your videos before to help get in the mood 😂. I did take a few items that I treasure and almost fit into, and put them in a storage bin down the hall as my maybe pile. In six months I can revisit. But they’re not mixed into my daily choices, so I can approach my closet with confidence and joy, knowing I can choose everything that’s in it. Thank you Carla….. your videos always give me joy and momentum towards having a better space and cleaning up my energy.
Watching this closet declutter makes me feel I could tackle my own closet! I have sooooo many clothes, I don't even know what I have anymore, as I seem to wear the same clothes on repeat. Almost all the clothes hanging in my closet are "double hung" (a cardigan over a top on every hanger). It's overwhelming to think about. Watching your decluttering method is very helpful and motivating. Your friends are wonderful to let us into their world to see real-life decluttering in action. 🙂
@@comosi519 get everything out and go through it - yes, no, maybe - try on the maybes and make them yes or no - then the nos - sell donate or trash. Then the yeses - divide them into 2 seasons - fall/winter and spring/summer - and if you can, put away the season that you’re not wearing. Then divide your clothes into what you wear at home, what you wear every day and special occasions. The special occasions go farthest back in the closet.
The mild scrapes on shoes can be buffed out with an emery board, then apply some shoe polish in the same shoe color. It will make some of them look brand new.
This was delightful! I appreciate that you spent a little more camera time on specific pieces and told their stories. I have a weird space in my closet, too, because the exterior hallway comes in at an angle and leaves only a shallow triangular space. I used an old CD tower (remember those?). Above it I attached a hardware organizer with pull-out drawers, which are perfect storage for things that otherwise get lost (flash drives and spare keys, for example).
Put a shelf unit in the side by the jeans. Then she can store the jeans on the shelves and maybe some bags in fabric bins. Or whatever needs to be stored there.
Another great declutter journey. A great first pass on decluttering Jess’s wardrobe, it is like a magic room where things go to hide, so much hidden away…lol. Can’t wait to see part two. I love shoes, can’t wear the style Jess has but love this absolutely tall heels 👠 ❤❤❤
If that was my house, I'd enlarge the closet opening and put in louvered doors or something. That's a seriously dysfunctional space. But since it's not an option, I'd turn one of the sides into a dedicated storage space with a rolling rack, and have additional storage on the side like one of those shoe bags that normally go on the back of a door, or repurpose a shower shelf or something. The configuration would depend on the dimensions and what she wants to store--shelves or a garment rack or some combo of that. Amazon is good, but so is IKEA and Uline, and don't rule out a store fixtures place or restaurant supply store. You can find good quality used things there too. I personally would go more in the direction of shelves built into the far ends of the closet and less hanging stuff for maximizing the space and ease of use. Also, don't underestimate how helpful extra lighting would be. You can find wireless, battery powered LED lights at any Home Depot that stick in place with a command strip
These quadruple hangers are great spacesavers 😮 For the right side of the closet I think maybe an adjustable shelf system might work best. And maybe a bigger shoe rack for under the hanging items. Then the shoe rack from the room can go and free up space
I wonder if you get a bookcase second hand off of marketplace that fits in the closets right side if it will be better storage wise you could then buy boxes to store things and extra shelves from the hardware store if needed. You could potentially do the same with the bottom of the closet. She could even move accessories where the shoe storage is in the middle of the room where she is more likely to use them and store shoes in the closet so they are hidden. There’s a lot of space not utilized well in her room that could also serve to store things without it appearing as cluttered. The only hanging storage solution I like that’s shown is the one with the boxes you can take out, which I would properly label if it’s kept.
Yes, use the right side as storage, can you get a tall thin dresser and put it in the closet and element those hanging storage units. But you ladies are doing a great job
Maybe if the right side had some sort of drawer system. Eliminating the stuff in the center. Maybe cull through the bags on the door and place them in some sort of basket and put them on the top shelf. Then if she’s got lots of hats, hang them on a clip on system that hangs on the door.
She did a great job cleaning out so far! Hopefully, she can keep motivated for the rest! Sometimes when you live in a place a long time, you really have to reimagine storage solutions. Maybe try some shelves on the sides instead of those hanging organizers that never really work well long term. Love this video!
Oh thank goodness you posted a video Carla!!! Now I can procrastinate and relax instead of baking and getting ready for my kid’s Halloween party tomorrow!! 🎃🐈⬛🕷️🍂🍁🔥🧙♀️💖🌳
I think it is best to do shorter rods , one on the left side and one to the right side of the closet . And shelf storage to the backwall in front of the door. I think the hanging clothes can be more in sight. En you can seperate more easily, and make more use of the closset . Greetings from the Netherlands. Silvana
I have aluminum shelving in one side of my closet. She could buy a narrow one (mine’s about four or five feet wide) and store jeans and T shirts there giving her more room in the middle for hanging. I have cubes in mine but I store mainly my yarn and crafting supplies (I’m a knitter).
Hi Carla, I was thinking about what I would do with the ends of the closet. You could get a dowel cut to size to create two hanging rods from front to back, creating new sections of hanging storage. You can buy the end pieces to hold the rod at the hardware store.
I think it should be ONLY clothes on hangers in the closet, with some room to spare so she can move everything up and down to find what she wants. I’d even put some off-season coats in the far corners. All the other items that are folded should be in drawers outside the closet. If you can’t easily access something you’re not going to reach for it.
HACK for CRAZY INCONVENIENT CLOSETS with virtually inaccessible nooks behind walls: obtain tubs that fill as closely as possible the entire space in the behind-wall nooks. Utilize the vertical space up to the clothes bar and then the space above the shelf up to the ceiling. ONLY store items in these tubs with items you need ONCE A YEAR or less frequently. If you put that category of item in those tubs that completely fill up that inconvenient space, it leaves massive amounts of usable space in the rest of the apartment for more important items. Suggest storing all blankets, decorative pillows you don’t want to display now but will later, infrequently used luggage pieces, and out-of-season clothes, outerwear, handbags, and footwear. As you noted, closets store an incredible amount of things, and if you put the things that are not in your daily life behind the wall, it releases an incredible amount of usable space in dressers, wardrobes, or apartment cabinets. Doing this will only leave the 3 or 4 foot space right in front of the door to hang clothes, but with the amount of space cleared in the rest of the apartment by using the nook storage more efficiently, that should be sufficient. Not everything we hang up needs to be hung. Love your videos.
Utilising the side to stack tubs with her out of season and less worn (vacation) clothes would make it useful space. Footwear and bags on shelves down the other side would clear the shoe rack from her bedroom and changing/clearing out what’s in the dresser would get rid of the hanging shelf with her swim etc in….. best to clear out everything first and then rearrange/store etc.
Yay! New subscriber here. I've been waiting for a new episode. 🥳 so until then I've been catching up on all your past episodes! LOVE everything you do! Wish we lived closer, I would love to offer my help just to hang out with you. LOL You' seem such a cool person.
I'm wondering if double bars would work better than the hangers that hold multiple items. I'm a short person as well and I found that having all the short tops, skirts, short dresses, anything that the same length could go on one bar, anything longer like pants I would fold on a hanger and hang them on a separate bar. Long dresses on the door in the garment bag. Handbags on the sides or in the shoe stand.
I had two closets like that and I hung my seasonal stuff hanging on on the sides and just had current wear in the middle. The second closet I had sets of drawers on each side bur shelves would have worked too. That was my yarn shop. I had a one bedroom but it had a crazy amount of storage closets 1920s place. The shelves above I had my winter bedding . Maybe these ideas will help.
Yay! So happy to see a Carla video! Going to start watching now!!!! ❤ Stopping the video part of the way: No to the green over-sized 'unusual' Barbara Streisand Meet The Flockers dress. It's far too much fabric for her! That red top with the Spanish, hoopy, flouncy sleeves. Not only is one side doing its own thing, but the shoulder area is far too large. It's not sitting properly around that area. But, OMG, love love love the clothes!!!!
Hi Carla, would you be willing to ask Jess who the artist of that gorgeous colorful piece next to the wardrobe is? For the right size of the closet I think I would add shelves (top to bottom) or a space for hanging front to back in stead of side to side

Tough job in that closet! Is there a rolling cart you could utilize to move in and out?
I want her to take April (The Space Maker) with her to the garage with her family. I think it would make a cracking collaboration.
Hi I will love love to see that also ❤ enjoy your day 🤗
That muumuu is definitely giving Mrs. Roper from Threes Company! So comfy! 😆
My thoughts exactly!
Yes!!!!!!!!
Omg!!! Yesssssss!!!! 😂
This was the BEST part of the vid - I was belly laughing!
Yes!!!!
I would just install deep shelves on that right side for the suitcases and folded clothes.
Yep me too
I'm glad she kept the caftan! I think the kids these days call it "rich childless desert aunt aesthetic" or something like that. I bought my first one this summer. Something about this woman is so cute! Her face lights up and you gotta smile 😊
OMG 😂❤ The green "sack" looking dress moment was hilarious!
Looks good on Carla since she’s taller. Totally swallows her friend.😂

If you can’t easily access something you’re not going to reach for it.
Great start ladies. I agree rt side should be storage.
I found you recently and I’m absolutely hooked, loving declutter and organizing videos 😊
Ooh I love a good declutter. 💐❤
Great job! Some many beautiful clothes.
LOVE your videos 😊 always good vibes
Wohoo🎉 happy Friday!!
I bought the same unit for face and body. Gotta use it alot!
Yay! New subscriber here. I've been waiting for a new episode. 🥳 so until then I've been catching up on all your past episodes! LOVE everything you do! Wish we lived closer, I would love to offer my help just to hang out with you. LOL You' seem such a cool person.
Great progress!
LOVE that weekender bag! I'm in the market for a new one. Great style!
I love the khaki green throw on, something I would wear for sure 😂
Great job so far!
Great & fun decluttering video!
Yay! So happy to see a Carla video! Going to start watching now!!!! ❤
Stopping the video part of the way: No to the green over-sized 'unusual' Barbara Streisand Meet The Flockers dress. It's far too much fabric for her! That red top with the Spanish, hoopy, flouncy sleeves. Not only is one side doing its own thing, but the shoulder area is far too large. It's not sitting properly around that area. But, OMG, love love love the clothes!!!!
Can’t wait to see the rest
Surprised she doesn't have any Baggallini bags or purses - they are THE BEST! Designed by airline stewardesses. Best purses ever.
She has alot of amazing things❤
Nice work! Jess, I love your clothing styles💖
Deep racks/shelves that can house her shoes bins the stuff hanging on that pink storage hanger. Top of unit for bags
Maybe a pull out hanging clothes rail on wheels? That could be easy to pull out and push back in to the closet ? ❤
Great job ladies
12:13 I have the same skirt in Ireland!! Not able to use because I am overweight! Thats a sign to improve!!
Hi Carla, would you be willing to ask Jess who the artist of that gorgeous colorful piece next to the wardrobe is?
For the right size of the closet I think I would add shelves (top to bottom) or a space for hanging front to back in stead of side to side
Enjoyed the video! Great progress!!
