Hey man. I made this crappy game by myself. I loved this video essay! And yeah, I know the game is a mess. But that was kind of intentional. Who would take a game with this premise seriously? I made it to get a laugh from the player on how bizarre everything was. Thank you for the video!
Well this is a pleasant surprise! As I said in the video, I think you've got some great ideas, and we did get some good laughs out of it during the livestream! That bell-ringing will stick with me forever though
I can tell you had fun working on this game and honestly this is kinda what I aim for with the game I'm making. I just want to make a fun game that I like and maybe someone somewhere in the world will come across it and have a fun afternoon.
Zero-response games (games that seemingly no one has played) have always bee fascinating to me. These are the closest thing you can get to those on Steam. Thank you for doing this.
Plenty more of them to come! The Side Quest series will only feature games that have 200 or less reviews, so there will be some pretty niche stuff here
The final boss HAS to be an MGR reference 🤣no way they have a guy with glasses and a white dress shirt and tie tear it off, then in phase two you are kicked down to a arena surrounded by burning vehicles.
you have to love the models for this game really *feeling* like they were made in Paint 3d, the most quality work for the most quality game on steam for sure
@@Graeldon What if you were stuck on a desert island with only two pieces of media to entertain yourself with, and one was Breaking Bad while the other was this game? :)
If I'm going to be picky, real Aioli does not actually contain mayo. It's an emulsification of ground garlic (usually using rough salt to grind it) and olive oil, and maybe a squeeze of lemon. The garlic mayo that we often call aioli is in reality just garlic mayo (which is still tasty)
You're mostly correct, but from what I know, aioli also contains egg yolk. Egg yolk + olive oil = mayo. It's still redundant to call it aoili mayo, or garlic aioli, as without the mayo or garlic components... it's not aioli.
@@Graeldonthe only thing I will quibble with is that you usually don't use olive oil for mayo. In fact, the cheaper the oil, the better the mayo. I usually use rapeseed or sunflower oil. I have done olive oil too, but it really tastes of olive oil and it's kinda strange. Adding egg is the French version, only oil is the Spanish. Both are aioli though.
Yeah, this game is a mess, but this video review was definitely amusing. For instance, I got a good laugh out of the cutscene where Larry defies even more laws of physics to hop across the floating hats at 9:50.
Sniper Finger is a reference to Mike Ehrmantrout, from Breaking Bad. He was been shown to use a sniper rifle in the series, and is the face of the "kid named 'Finger' meme"
This game is actually a MGR/Metal Gear reference🤣, the Bob fight is an obvious Armstrong parody down to the wreckage ring and tearing his shirt off, Sniper Finger sounds like a Sniper Wolf parody mixed with Jetstream Sam's role in MGR (which might explain the random Miguel). Hatguy's entire sequence where he flies up onto a roof and Larry flies straight up to him looks like the ending of the Monsoon fight.
Spamming the bell to cause an explosion is a reference to Breaking Bad, by the way. edit: the ending is one long reference to the final boss of Metal Gear Rising
Traditional aioli doesn't have mayonaisse in it, it's just garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. So specifying aioli mayo seems about the one thing the game did right.
@@Graeldon Not in traditional aioli, that would make it mayonaisse, which is more American or French aioli. Apparently the aioli Wikipedia page goes into this if you'd like more info, as that's apparently a thing.
@@genevievemccluer7503 interesting, it seems that the version without egg is the "traditional" version, but the version with egg is the more commonly accepted version
@@genevievemccluer7503 Never thought I'd be having a discussion about aioli on a UA-cam comments section. The games I'm forced to play for this series make some weird things happen
Some of the games I review and up being student projects, passion projects, or devs first attempts... I don't want to be cruel and crush dreams, so I do try to offer constructive criticism whenever possible
irrelevant really, but saw the clip and figured I'd comment for s&g. The reason resolution options are appearing multiple times is because the dev just told the engine (presumably Unity) to list all supported resolutions, but truncated the text to only show the resolution values. Each duplicate entry is for a different refresh rate.
This game and it's content has its own charm of screaming "I wanted on the top", the only games I have similar vision is Sonic 06 given it's unfinished release state, but certainly aiming for something bigger than what actually came out. The game actually has some sort of variety, even if it's just another name for the same play-style. The second phase with Bob with it's environment (colour-wise) and Sniper Finger saving Larry in the last second, and then Larry beating Gus is what I think, a reference to Metal Gear Rising Revengence. Really sucks the devs didn't have enough experience to properly polish the game, make better animations/visuals/music/the whole game. Also due to the game being released way after your first steam sequence video about "TBISOG" (actually not too bad for start), Larry was probably named Larry, so that you after you review this game the devs could smile :).
It's very disappointing when you review games, but don't understand the purpose of the game. you don't enjoy the game, but It wasn't made for you. Same thing with Member the Alamo. You just didn't get it.
I did acknowledge that this game was made for the intent of being silly, it's not a serious game. But that doesn't excuse poor mechanics or game design. A game can be a shitpost but still be enjoyable to play. The BHop simulator I reviewed is a great example of that
Love how this whole game is based off of one Breaking Bad character whose name isn't even Larry
The writers really missed an opportunity.
Kid named Larry:
The protagonist's name really _is_ Larry this time. We've come full circle.
The OG Larry, or Larry Prime
The good news is that you won't have to replay this game when you get to the letter L Steam games sometime in 2037.
Silver lining for sure!

I'm sure I'll get around to it someday, but this game definitely didn't inspire me to watch it

Ok but the idea of a game where you play as the creeper is great
Minecraft, but I'm a Creeper. I'd play that.

That's how Larry asserts his dominance, and mind control.
Larry, I'm sorry, please don't hurt me!

So... It's basically "Those bastards are trying to steal our wheelchair", right ?

In defense of the proximity over line-of-sight detection, the enemies might be using audio rather than visual clues to notice Larry...
