    I don't understand why you make a nice project and just throw on some lazy finish. They offer no wear protection whatsoever. Get Bob Flexner's Finishing book. I bought it 30 years ago and his latest updated edition last year. You'll learn a bunch of lesson's and your projects will ramp up. Teri Masaschi's book is also good. She has a book titled "Foolproof Wood Finishing".

    I love the simplicity of the design. And, beyond the awesome overall project, I think the whole video was worth watching just to pick up that round over bit radius matching the mortise bit radius tip. As long as the top of the tenon fits nicely, the bottom can be completely munched and it will still look good. Great tip!

    @ the 7:50 mark, couldn't you just clamp a board across the gap? Then you'd have a flat surface to mark your depth and to remove the material in that gap. That board would create a flat bottom. And you'd have both legs to make sure that everything fits right as a chisel would have 2 points of contact. The crossbar going across the legs and the legs themselves. This would create 2 - 90º corners where the opposing part would mate to it.

    Hi! Awesome project! Very beautiful. One stupid note: The pieces not sliding fully into each other is not because of "The round router bit". It could be square and you still have the same problem. It's of course because of the router bit spinning in circles in stead of going in a very tiny square. Would be nice though if they could make that. :)

    Congrats on a Successful video and plans and project. Hals Wood Shop. What amazes me is this. You said this is your number one set of plans downloaded and I have no problem with your business making money. But what has happened that men and women watching the original do not have enough " skill" to make a pattern from anything since they are probably making more than one? Your video even showed them stop blocks and cutting in on the band saw, showing what a 9 inch band saw can do. I guess they have no confidence and have to buy and not make it. We could be going to their shops and making their jigs for them...love to make money on that. Or custom advice on shop design. Keep up the projects. Great ideas. Thanks

      I think there are just ppl that need plans. Just different brains that work different ways. Same with cooking. There are just some ppl that can not replicate a recipe without the use of a cookbook. Others don’t own any cookbooks but are amazing chefs..... just different ways different minds work!

    Great stuff Tamar. I made three stools years ago almost exactly like this because I was bored with nothing to do on night shifts when the ship I worked on was weatherbound. Some little differences though. I had no power tools except a cheapo jigsaw and I used half inch plywood because that's all I had. The seats were two discs thick so the x mortise and tenons were invisible and I made cutaways at the bottom of the legs and made a smaller disc with another x mortise which allowed me to positively lock the legs together and eliminate any flexing and twisting. With half inch ply this was necessary but using three quarter inch boards like yours there is no need - it's stiff enough already.
    I really like what you do. You're a clever and innovative craftswoman and I get off on your sense of fun too.

    if you were to adjust the template on the legs to extend the middle slot further ( if you are using a 12.7mm router bit extend the lines 9mm) the legs would come out finished straight from the router table no chisel work.

    I worked for a company called Themetech & we did big jobs for FAO Swartz, Planet Hollywood, ESPNZONE, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, Fry's Electronics &
    many others.
    A huge work surface that could be broken down easily was essential.
    As a side note, working there was pretty demanding but I got to build cool stuff like old time wooden oil derricks & water towers, wiggle mirrors, carousels & listening rooms.

    First, let me say how wonderful your videos are, and how grateful I am for them.
    I’m thinking of making a side table using your method but wondering about dimensions. Does anyone know if there is a rule of thumb or something that says how wide you can make the top in relation to the legs? For instance, if the footprint (width of the legs) are 10 inches, how big can you make the top before it becomes unstable? Is a top with a diameter of 20 too much, should it only be 15? Does the height of the legs play a role in the calculation?

      Thanks! Someone actually made a large bench but they made 2 bases. So there’s always options that can be figured out by experimenting

      @leeslegacywoodworking5405 3 роки тому

      Ok. I never knew that there was a blonde walnut. I’m just getting back into woodworking after about 30 years of not doing it too much. My dad was a carpenter and would bring me on his jobs with him. If I wasn’t at school or sick, I was with him. He passed away a couple years ago from Parkinson’s and left with me some of his knowledge and tools, so I figured it was time to put them both to good use.

    So if I recall correctly, you mentioned in a video a while back (spring/summer 2019) that you had very little hand tool skills. Well if it's you I remember saying that, you seem like a professional now. Great job again.

    If you have to do the glue up use 3/4 pieces for the middle. Cut them as long as the finished area and there is no cutting involved on that part, the slot is already there. Thats what i did when i made one similar :-) Very cool stool and pattern.
