A-frame Cabin Walk Through (10 months after renovations began)

- We bought this 1960s A-frame house in March of 2018. It had been abandoned for nearly 13 years. Here's the "Before" video: • The Kids See the New A...
The previous owner had used the home as a fishing retreat, but when he passed away, the property fell into disrepair--his family retained ownership, yet didn't use or maintain the house for over a decade. When we took over ownership, the house was still completely furnished, and even had 13 year old food in the cabinets & refrigerator!
The footprint of the main house is 24' x 36'. It has an extension to one side that is about 8' x 8.' In total, with the square footage of the second floor, it's about 1,500 s.f.

I had to comeback and see your cabin,,,,omg the 2nd time more beautiful than ever,,,what gets me is that it looks small in the front of the house,,,but when you go inside,,,it has plenty of room and open space, I like how you decorated it too,,,it's not overdone or cluttered....😀😊🤗👍👏

My family has been fortunate to own a couple of different lake cabins over the years. The first of which was a small A-Frame on lake Ontario. Your place is absolutely beautiful and the perfect design. You did an amazing job bringing it back to life.

Love it. What I would do instead of a second floor would be to build in a 15Hz folded front loaded horn sub woofer with the walls making up the mouth flare. In retirement I won't be wanting to do many stairs anyway.

One question. If the master bedroom is upstairs.... well at night you have to go downstairs to use the bathroom. I guess they might have some A-frame with the bathroom upstairs.
Yes, you have to go downstairs in the middle of the night, but it would be possible to add a 1/2 bath upstairs, or add a dormer (bump-out) to accommodate a bathroom.

@Taylor I do have land ..and I won't build it myself ..the Masons and carpenters will do that ..the stocks available in the market ! Now tell me the cost !
@@lohriikadena3573 there are sites where you can purchase A-frame home plans, and can pay a nominal fee to receive an estimate for cost of construction & materials in your area. Just do a search for "A-frame home plans."
I absolutely love it it's so beautiful how many square feet is this and but what do you do about insulation you don't seem to have any insulation on that on that puppy I guess you're just using the insulation from the outside is that how they did it they put it underneath the the roof before they put the roofing on is that how they did it with your place anyways how many square feet is this this is f****** stunning I love it everything about is perfect

Marcus Jordan they have a similar one at Home Depot for $2,500 called Civik 63 in. Black Spiral Staircase Kit. There are other kits available that claim you can put them together yourself in a day or two.

I think I saw one second hand but then I gotta worry about if it matches up in height for my home. And I saw a couple of really cheap one's on Alibaba website but I'm scared to death to give my money to some overseas cheap Chinese website smh
@@mmjnice97 I have seen them on Craigslist, too, but yes, you're right--you would have to be sure you could modify it if the height didn't match your needs, exactly. Ours appears as though it may have had a life in another home at one point. Many of them are somewhat modular in design, so if you were able to cut it down, it might work.

Can you put the washer & dryer behind a sliding door?
A Woman of a Certain Age we plan to conceal the washer/dryer, eventually, by building out the closet so it is a bit deeper-right now, the w/d sticks out too far beyond the door frame to be able to add a door.

Since it was in such poor condition, we purchased it for far below market value, at $170K.
Is this insulated? I'm looking at building one of these but I'm concerned about their thermal performance.
It is not insulated. You can, however, install insulated metal roofing, which we have considered adding.
