Great video, thanks for sharing. I have an 06 Dodge 3500 Cummins 4x4 Auto with electronic shift and my Encoder motor is doing the same thing. Cycling with the engine off? I replaced the encoder motor and 4 weeks later it started cycling again. What gives the encoder motor power with engine off for it to cycle like this? I checked for continuity and grounds from TC Plug to TIPM connector pins and readings were SAT. I get a random 4x4 Service light to flash on dash. When the 4x4 service light stays lit, it disables the dash control switch. Not lit the switch returns to normal and all switching positions work. When switching you can hear the engagement taking place. I disconnected the plug at TC encoder motor so it will stay in 2WD. Research on forums stated a faulty AC pressure switch can cause this issue? Or the ABS wheel sensor grounding out can cause this issue? Not sure how these sensors can back feed to give you this problem causing TC motor to cycle? This is very frustrating to troubleshoot. The TC Encoder motor cycling with the engine off makes be believe there is an underlying fault in the circuit causing this issue? Is there a specific mechanical resistance (Tightness) across the connectors that has to be met for circuit integrity? I am still troubleshooting this issue causing the TC encoder motor cycling with engine off. I am going to inspect and check all the grounds on engine block and look at the ABS/AC sensors next. Any guidance or help would greatly be appreciated.
Found the problem. This truck is very sensitive to current fluctuations. Replaced batteries, power cables and clean all grounds. Thought I had fixed it. Then a week later had 4WD Service Light flash randomly. Found all pins on C4 Small Gray connector at TIPM were loose (Drag Test). Tighten each pin, problem solved!😊😊😊😅
The old lady and I just bought an 07, got home and as soon as I parked it immediately got stuck in 4 low. When I try to switch it makes that same sound. Thanks for the video and information!!
I have a problem the spline won’t turn where I’m trying to get it to align with my new motor. I have the truck in neutral and it still won’t budge. What do you suggest I do? Please and thank you.
Said the motor has to align or it will break. Does this mean that since i turned the motor to match the Tcase... i broke my new motor..? because i replaced the motor & its still not working. Looking to replace the Tccm next. Thnx in advance
If you need to turn that motor to match, plug it in and put it to whatever mode the tcase is in (with shift motor unmounted) and it will turn and you can slide it on
I have an 06 3500 with manual transmission. Mine started making that noise , in and out of 4wd, two days ago when I wasn't even in the truck. It is not stuck in 4wd. Somebody suggested, just unplugging it, and zip tying it up, until I can fix it ?
My daughter's space peanut boyfriend has a 2008 Everytime you like lock it with key fob . Transfer case motor turns on . I can put my hand on motor and he locks and unlocks it. I said it's dodge wiring. On that note he hooked up a horn to the power distribution box and basically lit the wiring harness on fire out of the bottom of it and melted wheel well liner out
I have a 2007 that has this same issue it likes to get stuck in 4 low and when I’m going down the road it randomly tries to go in to 4 low. I need help I’m stumped.
I had the transfer case motor swapped out 2 years ago could it be junk already. I haven’t touched the actuator in the axel. I don’t have any check engine lights or anything of that nature and I just replaced all my battery wiring and grounds.
That's the reason I chose the manual model, I can climb underneath and move it by hand if the need be instead of riding home on hard pavement in 4x4 mode eating u-joints and gears...
I just saw a comment about switching to a manual selector, and getting rid of the " Knobby thing "..... is that feasible? I HATE ALL THIS ELETRONIC CRAP !
TIPM box. Worst invention in auto manufacturing history & Doge refused to recall & repair it. The TIPM box is an absolute nightmare! This happens with many rigs 2006-2009
Great job and excellent teaching skills
Nice just another day working on cool vehicles 😎
Nice fix. Crazy how that scan tool can look at everything like that. Thanks for sharing and take care. ✌️
That's a slick rig brother. Nice fix.

excellent information. Very informative. Thanks

Have the same rig but the 4wd just engages by itself then bangs out when driving - any ideas?
Now the BOOSTED four wheel drive launches are optional
Got them skills and such✊

Nice looking truck though 👍🏻

Looks like it wouldn't be hard to swapp to a floor shift my 08 has the turny knoby and I always said if I have trouble I'd swap it to floor shift

Same problem on 05 dodge ram 2500 floor shift, the front drive line not free when in 2 wheel drive
Sorry. I forgot... I just subscribed to your channel. Where are you located?

exactly! why over complicate such a simple thing
At least you can get to it not like most
Is that a 72-73 Dodge pickup grill hanging on the wall toward the end of the video? 👀
I think it is 74-76
My '06 tries to shift in/out of 4wd but won't, unless you first shift to 4wd low, the to 2wd or 4wd high. No codes. Irritating as hell.
Mine doesn’t shift on the switch and I can’t hear anything under the truck like this
If the codes are present then it likely needs a new shift actuator just like this one did
Thank you I replaced the motor like you did stayed perfect
I have a 06 2500 mega cab doing the same thing but ended up not wanting to move one day. It feels like it is locked up
What was it my truck doing the same
The world has gone mad on all this crap since the 80 s who needs this garbage it’s just rubbish we don’t need but it’s for the good of mankind
I 100% agree
I just saw a comment about switching to a manual selector, and getting rid of the " Knobby thing "..... is that feasible? I HATE ALL THIS ELETRONIC CRAP !
i have a drinding noise coming when i put it in 4x4, front drive shaft is turning ua-cam.com/video/FwYrCa5FZ7E/v-deo.html
