  • In this video, I review the Emotiv EPOC: a wireless EEG headset that not only tracks your brainwave activity, but also uses BCI (Brain Computer Interfacing) technology for "mind control" programs and games. And I use the popular nootropic Qualia Focus to test out my brainwave results.

    I’ll be breaking down the Emotiv Epoc+ into a couple of categories:
    1. Who should buy it?
    2. Form and Functionality
    3. Special Features and my experiment with Qualia Focus Nootropic by Neurohacker Collective
    4. Pros and cons
    And I would say there are a few demographics of people who would benefit most from this device:
    1. People interested in peak brain performance
    -- If you’re obsessed with understanding your brain and how to enter the “flow” state - whether that be for deep work or meditation, this is a phenomenal device for that. Much like using a device to track your sleep or fitness levels - you need a baseline for understanding how your brain works to make changes…and you’ll get that from the real-time brain wave tracking in this headset.
    2. People interested in Brain-Computer Interfacing
    --- I’m talking about the ability to translate your brain signals into actual commands on a computer or other device. This is some really cutting-edge technology that can be used for things like virtual gaming and even for people with neurological disorders who have difficulty communicating through speech.

    This is so incredibly cool! It's crazy to think how 10 years ago I was a participant in a lab study where they placed a ton of EEG electrodes on my scalp while they made me do a bunch of puzzles and brain games...now that technology is essentially available for me to use at home (with significantly less mess, haha). I also think I need to get me a bottle of Qualia....

      Right??!? It's amazing to see how quickly the tech is changing. In the 1990s I never thought I would see at-home EEG devices on the market...and now we can even use programs to train our brains! Just imagine what's in store in the next five years! It's going to be WILD!!

      Thank you so much! And yes - I totally agree! I feel like we're right on the cusp of some great technological advancements in the next few years regarding neurofeedback devices. I'm also hopeful that the prices will come down on some of these machines as they become more widely produced!

    I can relate to the behaviour in this video so much. For example so many things I've done: tracking myself with mood journals, written journals, dream journals, schedules, goal lists, reading lists; supplementation of nootropics and fitness and testosterone with shilajit, gokshura, tribulis terrestris, creatine, beta-alanine, matcha, coffee, nicotine gum; diets like keto to enter into ketosis. And now I'm learning about neuroscience and the brain and started thinking about the EMOTIV. I met Tan Lee in San Fran once, and her I know her mum. They're both really cool. Tan Lee was probably the most inspirational person I have ever met in my life. There wasn't like a specific reason, I think I've never met anyone who did anything interesting before.
    I just finished Brain Energy, by Christopher M. Palmer and now I'm reading Behave by Robert Sapolsky. The brain is so interesting. I want to read about the neuroscience of religious experiences, how meditation affects the brain, and books on neurology next. I'm definitely going through a neuroscience phase at the moment.

    Very happy to stumble onto your channel, Katie. I am currently undergoing neurofeedback for my ADHD. I have spent almost $5k and i'm only a third of the way through my treatment sessions. I know you aren't a doctor, but do you think this could either augment or replace adhd training? Any good sources for research?

    • @katie_moore
      @katie_moore  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Perry, I hope your treatment is going well! That sounds intense.
      I don't believe that the Emotiv Epoc is the right device for what you're looking for. It's more of a hobbyists device. It doesn't have protocols curated for that sort of brain training.
      Let me know how your neurofeedback course goes. I'd be very interested to investigate how it works if you think it's efficacious.

    Good video. Have you seen a difference between qualia focus and qualia mind? I have been taking qualia mind 5 days on 2 days off for a little over a month, and don't see much change in focus or attention when I take it. I also don't really "feel" any smarter. Wondering, if you have taken both, what was the better experience?

    • @katie_moore
      @katie_moore  3 роки тому

      I expected Qualia Mind to give me better results (mainly because it's more expensive...) but after going on and off Focus and Mind dozens of times over the past few years, I keep returning to Qualia Focus! It's simpler but I feel the effects more. Qualia Mind is a little more subtle in my experience.

      @@katie_moore Any idea whether Qualia Focus changed its name to Qualia Mind Essentials? I see there is now a product called Qualia Focus, but it seems very different from Qualia Mind . . not a subset of Qualia Mind, more like a completely different formula and only 2 pills a day. Meanwhile there is now a product called Qualia Mind Essentials, which sounds a lot more like what UA-cam reviewers are calling "Qualia Focus" . . 5-7 pills a day. Curious if you know anything about this, thanks Katie!

    Hey, thanks for the video! Great info.
    I haven’t kept up with all your vids but would love to know what devices exist to read human emotion?
    Are there any rumours for Apple Watch etc doing that?

    • @katie_moore
      @katie_moore  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Brad! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a great question. This is actually a stumper for me. As of right now, I don't know of any wearables that exist on the market today to read human emotion. I definitely have to look into that more. I found an article (a year old) that talks about a potential Amazon wearable using voice cues to detect a person's mood, but haven't been able to find anything more than that: www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2019/5/23/18636839/amazon-wearable-emotions-report
      I'm sure if Amazon does pull it off, the iWatch will be soon to follow. I have experimented with the Apollo Neuro device that puts you in the driver's seat to regulate your mood. Loved that. There's also another cool device called the Hapbee that does a similar thing, coming out later this year. I'll keep my ears to the ground for any developments on that front. Super interesting stuff! Only a matter of time :)
