Question: If I want to change my CC firearm to a 1911, shall I look for a rather tight one or a gun with parts that have some “play”? In the military, you are usually going to carry a handgun which is very durable even if sand or dirt will come between the parts. I doubt that on a tight manufactured pistol, the durability is the same, but there are many folks out there who actually do carry such guns.
I think Eric makes a good point in this video. If you only want one for competition shooting, go for a 1911 with tight parts as it will increase your accuracy. For a Concealed carry pistol, I would go for a gun of which the components are looser but still not over extensively. Reason: you say it, sand, dust and dirt can lead to malfunctions and accuracy won’t be much of a significant considering factor as you will mostly use it on shorter distances (a few metres maybe). When I used to live in the US, I carried a TISAS 1911 for EDC. Not the most beautiful handgun but very reliable, durable and not over expensive.
When talking about fitment & how to check the same applies to any semi handgun. Glocks & Sigs don't have the barrel bushing but the tip of barrel to slide fit has the same effect on accuracy just as pushing barrel from ejection port. Granted most glocks, sigs, CZ whatever lock up really good but I have seen a few loose high mileage ones, something to note buying a used "wonder 9" Boomer says you're welcome
My current truck gun is a Rock Island 10mm double stack 1911. I do have a Commander Ruger and a Government length. 45. The 1911 for me is perfect. Yeh, puny 9mm's with 16 rounds are cute, but the triggers suck. Oh, did I mention that I have 16 rounds of 10mm?
10mm is the way to go with full sized 1911s IMO. I got a 45 government but don’t really care for the out dated pressures. People should be moving to 45 Super honestly.
460 Rowland can’t be shot without a compensator. It’ll destroy the gun and totally beat up your hands at the same time otherwise. 45 Super is the more practical round for EDC. So unless you plan on carrying something equivalent to a 44 mag everywhere? I’d suggest going with 10mm or 45 Super. Not to mention 460 Rowland is hard to find and probably more difficult to acquire than 44 mag.
