There's only one thing that is more impressive than Joschos playing on this video... And that thing is the fact that the rhythm player has still got a thumb on his right hand rather than a bloody stump. A round of applause for Joschos rhythm player people! :)
I can't believe he doesn't get more credit. This guy is one of my favorites. Flawless and mind boggling technique, boundless energy and a real adventuresome spirit, which really shows here -- especially the chorus where he plays the diminished all the way through. That shit is WILD!! I think Django and this guy would get along just fine . . .
This guy is the only guitarist that hits it in such a way that I go "OHHHH!" or bust out laughing in the awesomeness of how he ended something that if ended in any other way would seem distasteful but since he ended it in that way EXACTLY it was ridiculously awesome! I mean the ascending arpeggios at 3:58
No doubt Joscho is in his own class, incredible, a wonderful fusion of styles but Jimmy is purest gypsy blood, he makes Gypsy style sing in a way no one else can
I have been learning to play the guitar for a couple of years. This guy is amazing. Tommy Emmanuel, Chet, Les and a few more are f ing freeks on the guitar. I know I'll never get close but I do love to watch them.
Such a mind ... Such ideas ... Such a performer ... Incredible ! I would like to meet Joscho and talk with him about music ... It would make things much clearer in my head.
Merci mille fois. One of the best SGB version out there. You can definitely hear Stochelo's great influence! Joscho really knows how to print his own mark though.
That style of sound hole is called either "grande bouche" or "D-hole." The other guitar is "petite bouche" or "Oval Hole." They are both types of what is referred to as "gypsy jazz" or "manouche" guitars. Selmer/Macaferi, Maccafferi, and Dupont are two historical, famous, brands. Gitane is the brand where most people seem to start out. The one Joscho is playing likely cost anywhere from 2500 to 5000+ dollars.
If you listen to Django Reinhardt originals this kind of tempo is normal and expresses the heightened emotion of the music. Some can interpret it as somewhat manic but it is just pure fast flowing gypsy jazz where the blood overheats! The music is all about emotion!
Incredible technic I would like to see Joscho also play an eletric guitar with distortion I think he should not have any problem for exAMple playing a solo of MALMsting or steve vai ?What do you think BOUT THAT?
I really like the sound of the rythym guitar.Rather than the usual 'pompe',it sounds more like a combination of guitar and brushes and Joscho's guitar doesn't have the ''tinny" sound many of these style of guitars have. Is it the wider frets that cause that sound? He is taking the guitar to yet higher levels with his amazing musicianship.
Wow - touchy! Sorry I've got an off the cuff opinion! I didn't say anybody criticised Clapton. I just responded to the the guy who said Clapton would like it! Hello!
you must learn about Gypsy-Jazz !!!! This is not 100% Gypsy !!!! This is only : hy here I am, i am the fastest guitar player, in the same Liga as Stochelo and Bireli, nothing else !!!!!!
If you watch Joscho now playing this tune, it's like hearing new version of him rather than just playing extremely fast licks, Joscho is a better musician now than this man who just play to show off.
That was the most astounding guitar playing I have EVER witnessed.
It's not only the speed but also the cleanliness of every note
His bassist is phenomenal, as well.
There's only one thing that is more impressive than Joschos playing on this video... And that thing is the fact that the rhythm player has still got a thumb on his right hand rather than a bloody stump. A round of applause for Joschos rhythm player people! :)
This is the best live version out there

if I had this playing on a loop 24 hours a day 7 days a week inside my head I would never get tired of it. I am astounded every time I listen to it.
Diese Freude... es ist als ob ich angekommen bin.

This version & Jimmy Rosenberg's, just too great! These cats are on a totally different level!
No doubt Joscho is in his own class, incredible, a wonderful fusion of styles but Jimmy is purest gypsy blood, he makes Gypsy style sing in a way no one else can
+Goo Rarvey you have right !!! this is not 100% Gypsy-Style !
The more I listen to this man the better he seems to get!
das tut meiner seele so gut, danke
The rhythm guitar is great also.
That's Joscho's dad. He must have leather hands (no pick)!
didnt know that he was his father, cool
His father? Cool. But can he solo? Because he´s no using pick it´s strange to me... Cause u can´t solo guicky like that in gypsy jazz.
i think he only do the base. but you can solo quickly without pick, like flamenco and classical guitarrist play
Gunther doesnt need to solo. He trained Joscho for a reason...
On my way through youtube liking every Joscho Stephan video as I go XD

Such a mind ... Such ideas ... Such a performer ... Incredible ! I would like to meet Joscho and talk with him about music ... It would make things much clearer in my head.

Sensational!!! Sultans of swing!!!
correction.. It's an intelligence.
A gift is something that is given to you, intelligence is something that is recognized and developed.
Merci mille fois.
One of the best SGB version out there. You can definitely hear Stochelo's great influence! Joscho really knows how to print his own mark though.

Iff there is a god, Joscho Stephan might convince me.
Give that bass player his props.
This is insane! Hearing this makes me delutional. all I could imagine was mini me ran frantically around my own brain. That is ridiculously insane!
His guitar strings must be coated with asbestos. There can be no other reason his guitar is not fully engulfed in flames by the end.
HAHAHAHAAHAHAH
I agree.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAATATA GROOOOOOOOOOOSOOOO LOVE YOU
simply put, blew my mind the fuck away

If you love this guy, which I do,you should check out Birelli Lagrene.....he will also blow your mind !

Incredible technic I would like to see Joscho also play an eletric guitar with distortion
I think he should not have any problem for exAMple playing a solo of MALMsting or steve vai ?What do you think BOUT THAT?
mamma mia.preoccupante.

I want to see the fingers of the rhythm-guitar-player, the right hand.
They are soooo great!
Lordamercy!
unfuckenbelieveable right-hand, it don't even look physically possible...
0:28 - 0:32
I think Clapton'd like it !
Amazing !
Joscho no es de este planeta
youtube won't let me.....search alabama jubilee. Try that on for size
What action do you prefer, medium, high, or extra low?
@Guitslinger59 How about bireli lagrene ?
Wow - touchy! Sorry I've got an off the cuff opinion! I didn't say anybody criticised Clapton. I just responded to the the guy who said Clapton would like it! Hello!
love the Earl Scruggs quote at 0:33
A gypsy jazz guy that plays good fingerstyle? Wow, that's rare....and he's very good at both.
you must learn about Gypsy-Jazz !!!! This is not 100% Gypsy !!!! This is only : hy here I am, i am the fastest guitar player, in the same Liga as Stochelo and Bireli, nothing else !!!!!!
I notice there is no fret buzz. Do you have a high action? Love your Travis pickin'.
What is the name of the guitar with the huge sound hole?
If you watch Joscho now playing this tune, it's like hearing new version of him rather than just playing extremely fast licks, Joscho is a better musician now than this man who just play to show off.
This guy is in a different league to Clapton!
