Joscho Stephan might actually be the best guitarist alive. He's blazingly fast and each note is surgically precise. His solos escalate to insanity in such a smooth way that you don't even notice.
"Best" is kind of meaningless when there are so many different styles.. but yes. Joscho, T.E., Yamandu Costa, Richard Smith.. we live in a time of phenomenal, towering talent.
@@dielaughing73 "we live in a time of phenomenal, towering talent." Yeah, you've got that right. And they are generous and they are having life affirming fun. Like the way he tosses out that little homage to Django at 4:16
When a man can extricate himself from an improvised run as easily and as smoothly as he slides into it, you know that he knows his business. Great quintet. Joscho has had some outstanding violinists play with him and absolutely no knock on anyone else, but for my money, this Costel Nițescu guy can swing it like almost no one else.
Volker is my hero! I want to be like him when I grow up. (I'm 66) Well done gentlemen one and all. I will go to sleep tonight with my toe tapping Sweet Georgia Brown. Thank you all. Blessings from Kansas~
Joscho Stephan improves a lot with age, in this video he shows us that he can play MUSIC on his solos, not just blazingly fast licks or just showing off.
"Sweet Georgia Brown" is one of my all time favorite iconic tunes & I have several covers/versions of it in my music collection although none of them are 100% acoustic versions like this. So you guys had a high standard to live up to & boy, did you all DELIVER! Wow! Great job guys!
Cool, i heard Billy Ray Cyrus play an off the cuff version of this song that is similar, wondering if Joscho might have been inspired by it, anyway, nice stuff 🎉
OUTSTANDING! What do you think about using 3 different styles of guitars? Like a hollow body electric with flat wound strings for one? Just for the color change. And to avoid the buzzing when strings are pounded.
And they are all treated with bipolar meds. You should hear when they're off it. Never have listened to these fellows, who are just fine players, listeners, soulful, wonderful, great band. It's hard to put together a band of all being great players with their own needs, desires, whatever it is. That's the part of a tight band, with characters that are good enough to expect some due, and dough.
Volker is a beast on bass, keeping all this talent together.

Well, I might not go so far as that. On second thought ... maybe I would!
Yep I think you might be right here...

Take a standard and make it better! That was exciting to watch, I loved it.

Ode to Sam Pilafian’s Traveling Light version of Sweet Georgia Brown. There’s even some “borrowed” licks. Great song.
