I have a black hole charter special slow pitch with 1501HG ocea jigger JDM. Use it for everything and love the weight. Picked up the talavera slow J 300g and I’m impressed with the taper and weight of the blank. Yes there are more expensive rods that you can buy by a large margin, but I go by how the rod rod feels. This is a very lightweight rod with nice strength. Amazing holding the grappler which was 300 and this and checking the taper and finish it’s very nice for 130 bucks. Carbon rods are great and spending 300-500 on a rod is also nice but sometimes companies like Shimano make excellent gear and a great price. Thanks Shimano !
If i had to choose between using a jumbo spoon vertically vs. actually committing to real slow-pitch jigging, I would choose slow-pitch every-time. Slightly more technical, but a skill that can be applied to many more species \^^/
Great video and tips! I have an Ocea jigger 1500HG spooled with 20# braid and paired with the ML talavera type J. Is that ok for stripers considering the reel only has 15 lbs of drag?
I’m new to this type of fishing. I’m noticing that some jigs have 2 hooks on the “top” ring that the fishing line is tied to and in your case here, the 2 hooks at the bottom of the lure. Can you explain why there is a difference and what the benefits might be. Thanks
Crazy to me Shimano NA has obviously noticed there is a market for slow-pitch jigging here but still hasn't brought over a decent small sized slow pitch reel for these lighter rods.
@@ShimanoNorthAmericaFishing Yes! But the 1500 is the smallest size you offer in NA. I dont need 1500ft of 50lb braid on my finesse slow-jigging setup, kinda defeats the purpose of having an adequate sized rod and reel.

The Talavera Series Rods are incredible for the money!!
We'd have to agree!

Can the ML be used for tog jigging? Although not technically jigging, would it have the sensitivity and back bone to send the hook home?
Nice fish. Well done.
Capt. Jack is always on the bite! 👍
@@ShimanoNorthAmericaFishing , Will these jigs work in the cape cod canal? for shore jigging? we usally fish 3-6oz bucktails

Have you taken a look at our Ocea Jigger 1500 lineup?

The Trinidad is another option you can take a look at for smaller applications with a lot of power in a compact body.
Would a speed master 2 size 8 be a good fit for the Trevala type J slow pitch rod? If so for striper should I buy the med or med light rod?
Torium 14
Shimano warranty sucks. You have to ship back the entire rod at your own expenses before they would consider replacement. Bad business ethics.
Just lost a 40+ inch striper and a 50+ inch striper in the same day
