- Today is a salute to service! In today's taste test we try military rations known as MRE's, or Meals Ready to Eat! These meals are "enjoyed" by our military service members when serving in the field, so they can't be that bad, right?

Fun fact: that little pack of gum that's in each one is to help u poop from all of the calories and concentration of everything that makes u constipated. Especially that cheese and bread or crackers lol. And each MRE has your entire daily amount of calories in each one just in case that's the only meal u get that day

Yesss!!! And the drinks need to be at least 16 Oz. A 8 Oz coffee mug isn’t enough to dissolve that powder.
I was going to say, what are they supposed to do with all the nuts and cheese and bread... so that gum is like regular gum or does it have extra laxative properties to it? How the heck do you find a good balance between not constipated and not having diarrhoea? Oh my lord 😩😅😂
@@strawberrysoymilkshake the gum has extra something in it to help u not be constipated. MRE's are designed to be the only meal for the day with how many calories they have but 90% of the time that wasn't the only meal and the gum helped keep us from getting all blocked up lol
If that food makes you constipated I need too eat that, lol
We received MREs after Katrina and that's all I ate for weeks but the ones we got were so good with a lot of Cajun food,but my favorite was the beef stew.
When we went back to look at the damage and because FEMA had messed up so bad during all of it and after they would force us to open our trunks and give MREs and water to us whether we wanted them or not we had to take them and I'm glad we did because every one I ever had was good.
Yeah we received MRES too in Katrina but we didn't get to eat ours, by the time 1 of my brothers were trying to set his up we had to hurry and go, so he threw it down.
We got them after Hurricane Ike in Houston. We were without power for a couple weeks and would go to get free ice and water from the National Guard. We told them that was all we needed because we had food and a gas grill, but they gave MREs, too. We kept a couple packs and gave the rest to neighbors who had larger families to feed.
Now you know why they always carry small bottles of Tabasco sauce 🤣
This is why we would trade for our favorite ones. I like the Chicken A'La King. But that was back in 87...lol. My son is a Sgt in the Marines and has eaten lots with his tours he's been on.
I absolutely used to love MRE meals but the ones we got in canada had a few different things and we got almost 2 meals in 1 pack it was a side and a main. I was in army cadets and on FTX we got them
When my son was stationed in Germany he was on patrol in Kozovo on Christmas Day. For dinner he was given a gumbo MRE. It made him gag. He was pretty upset that he was serving for his country and they didn’t even have descent food. The same US Army didn’t even bother to show up for his military funeral to do the 21 gun salute for him.
I actually have very beautiful memories as a kid eating MREs with my dad who’s was in the military ♥️ me and my siblings always thought it was so cool.

New MRE's are way better than they used to be. Nothing more terrifying than getting the omelette, green and smelly. The only thing that saved it was a few meals worth of hot sauce.

You should see if you could possibly get ahold of any foreign MREs. The difference is remarkable.

When i was deployed we traded stuff a lot, and i traded my soul for the blueberry cobbler and crumbled the oatmeal cookie into it. Chocolate dairy shakes with less water, the extra sugar packet, and heated up, poured onto the brownie; foxfole soufflé.

Iv seen some MRE’s containing dried fruit, jam, or fruit in syrup. So some do contain fruit. As for vegetables. Unless it’s in the sauce of the meal ye there aren’t really any veg in MRE’s.

Just a heads up, the gum is not regular gum. It’s kind of like a laxative gum so you might be pooping a little more

During boot camp we got served powdered eggs and powdered milk. Those MRE now are better than when I was in the military in 1969

When it comes to the heater pack they should have shook the water all over the heater pack to get it to get hotter so the ravioli would have been warmer

I had to have 2 American MREs when I was on a mission's trip in Nepal. Neither were good and that's probably because in day to day life I don't eat junk foods, processed sugars, dairy, or gluten, even the little "treats" like m&ms or skittles were nasty to me. But others on my trip liked the MREs.

M&M's were actually made in the very beginning for the guys in the military. They were always wanting something chocolate but it melted so enter the M&M which were packaged in the MRE's.

We always said the meat in my college dorm in the 70’s was mystery meat! We rarely knew what it was supposed to be.

Ate many of those.. some are good.. many are not… reminded me of dog food.
The gum will also make you poop your brains out from all the food that constipates you 😂🙈. My husband is a marine and sometimes they have food “trucks” come with food from the chow hall so it’s not always just MRE’s. But to be fair they’ve ate them so much they know what ones are good and how to make them taste better 🙈

@Melissa mae don't be so dramatic. They're not trying to act like they're military vets, they're simple taste testing foods they eat. Stop overthinking and just enjoy the video.
I hate it when people say that tastes like dog food that is what you consider them members of the family and your dogs are not in war zones I mean at least that has some texture your dogs food is a hard pellet of our left over scrap's of meat products and don't even get me started with Purina on that note they have been proven to have put left euthanized pets like cats dogs and horses at least you know what animals your eating meat by product meal can be any animal they deam safe for our pets but we trust people that put the euthanasia drug into their dog food and think that that's better than what you're eating or the equivalent

With your attitude and your unrealistic expectation of others not saying what you don't like, we can clearly see that you are taking no steps to be better.
With the tropical punch flavor stuff, you need a whole 8oz bottle of water. You put it in like you do Crystal light and shake it. Its better with more water I promise you! I loved MRE's. some were really yummy and some were not haha. I loved getting the crackers with peanut butter in mine and a brownie! :)
My kids and I fell on hard times, the food bank gave us those MRE's to eat. It was literally all we had..
Good video. I watch mre videos all the time and the foreign ones get high marks. I think the french ones and Asian are good to try. Also you should do some "mountain house"

Surprisingly there are no chemicals. Very few have have preservatives. It is real food just with a high calorie intake.

I think the no fruit punch (1st MRE) needed more water. It’s more a drink I think soldiers would put in their canteen bottle rather than a mug.

The beef jalapeño patty used to have mustard and ketchup and it is meant to be a sandwich.
Actually some MRE's are better then others. Most of what my ex got when we were married were actually really very good. The ones they have now are very different. They are bigger and have alot more in them then the ones we got. We had beef stew which was very good. We would take what he got and stored them in case we ever needed them in an emergency. And in that case you can't be too picky. We actually had enough to last us at least 6 months and they last a very long time on the shelf.
You struggled to open all this stuff. But you forget that those in the military have a sharp knife. They just use that to open stuff.
Wow, that blue drink and orange drink sure were vibrant in color! I hate that those MREs are what the military really eat out in the field. I appreciate them even more now. Love and hugs from Norway!

Since I was in the Army in 2006, heating up food usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. In boot camp, you could get MRE's or food comes. It do come with M&M's or other candies. Sometimes you have to mix up stuff you get in MRE's. It has about 1500 calories per MRE because your out in the field. There is a website that you can get MRE's or Army store.
I was in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1992 right after they started making MRE’s and they didn’t have heaters in them yet so we had to eat them cold and they didn’t have nearly the menus that do today
The meals are better if you boil the pouch. We love getting MREs at our local Amy barracks. I’ve also ordered foreign mres from eBay. They are definitely fun.
