The beginning of the song is Morse Code for YYZ which is the airport indicator code for the Pearson International Airport in Toronto where the guys are from. Alex Lifeson the guitarist who is also a licensed pilot was flying them in the airport and the code came on. It stuck with Geddy and Neil and hence the song was born. Cheers
Try to understand that you just witnessed musical genius. The Rush journey is long and unmatched as no other band comes close to their skill. Thank you for your reaction and enjoy!
Your comment that this “sounds like a jam where they hit record” is actually accurate from what I read. Drummer Neil Peart and bassist Geddy Lee were jamming the opening sequence when Alex Lifeson (guitarist) was away. They liked it and played it for Alex when he returned. As others here note, YYZ is the three letter code for the Toronto airport (their hometown). The drum/bass jam starting the song is similar to the Morse code rhythm for YYZ.
Rush was phenomenal in concert and the audience's were insane. It was like a magic atmosphere. Saw them 5 times. Suggest Working Man Live in Cleveland.
It was Rutsey's older brother who suggested the name 'Rush' immediately before the band's first gig at The Coff-In, a local coffee shop in the basement of St. Theodore's of Canterbury Anglican Church ... it was a play on words due to the frantic scrambling of the band members as they tried to come up with a name for the band.
I remember seeing this played live at Earls court, and Neil went into a solo on his drums, the others went off stage and didn't come back for at least 10 mins. That solo opened my eye big time to the total skill of Neil's talent. never just a drummer, but the very best there ever was. The crowd went crazy in London too, like the starting notes of this tune are a cue for a free for all. And believe me, it was wall to wall fun, and very loud. LOL One of the things I like most about Rush is that they didn't conform to fitting into a particular genre, and that left them wide open to play anything and know that the fans would like it. There's even a reggae song done by them !!! This one YYZ is so up beat but we cant help but cheer up and feel like having a dance around the sleeping dog on the floor. Only my little dog is snuggled up to my side. AWWW. Well, she's really cute. Wonderful reaction Randi, I get the feeling you wanted to jump in the crowd and join in with the fun... TTFN
🤘RUSH🤘never just jams everything is time stakenly written and practiced till perfect. The 🤘RUSH boys are all master musicians. Sadly Neil Peart the drummer passed away at the beginning of 2020 from brain cancer. Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦 Yes and 🤘RUSH🤘a Canadian band
Musta seen 50 reviewers react to this but the first time I've seen it in mirror reverse lol it puts a whole new slant on it to those of us who are so used to seeing Alex on the left and Geddie on the right. 😊 other great live instrumental performances by them are La Villa Strangiato, Leave that thing alone, and Where's my thing, live in Dallas featuring one of Neil's more kickass drum solos.
No. This is their second night in Rio and they are just such good musicians that they could play switch to make it more interesting for them. Kind of like a B side show. Top form Rush.
Wow your reaction is flawed in a few ways right out the gate. It's not all your fault but, it's your reaction to a song and band way before your time. 😅. XYZ is not the name of the song. It's YYZ. The video you're watching is backwards. Everyone is playing left-handed! If you're going to watch and listen to a video then know name of the song and play the video correctly just out of respect for the artists. After hearing the first few bars, you start comparing it to the layering of "Row your boat "?! Really?! I had to stop listening to your floundering reaction. Rush is definitely more complicated than you'll ever understand. I think pop music and row your boat songs would more your style of music to react to.
Wow! Perhaps you prefer reactions from people who are already familiar with the music? 🤔 I am sorry that you didn't understand what I meant in referring to the layering of the row song. But either way, your familiarity with the band doesn't give you the right to be condescending. I don't like pop music, but that's irrelevant. Enjoy your high horse.
I've seen plenty of other reactions and yours is sub par. Unfortunately, you don't know the difference between condescending and constructive criticism. As a person reacting to music, etc. in this forum, you should be able to respond to either and glean something from it. You expect nothing but flowery replies, but can't handle it when someone points out a mistake or fault you made. No one's perfect. So what makes you so special?
@@Retromolarman @Mark Risner suggesting something is too complicated (especially when as simple as music) is not constructive criticism. 🤦♀️ Also, tallking down to people generally doesn't help them grow. If that is your aim, consider changing your approach. 😊
They are the masters of creating a soundscape. They move through time and mood changes better than anyone

This is my favorite band of all time amazing music!
There wasn’t lyrics😮until this day in Brazil😊when 45,000+people started singing along to a “instrumental”🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🥇🇨🇦🎼

Only at a Rush concert will you find the audience singing along to a instrumental piece. I know. I've done it.

These guys mean business! Check out XANADU (Exit Stage left 1981)
YYZ is the ICAO code for Toronto Pearson airport.
Keep it loud! We can control the volume on our end.😉 LOL Love your reactions BTW. 😎❤

Don't worry about getting blocked. Just for watching Geddy and Alex play lefty you should be all right.
“Is there any singing?” Well… does the crowd singing the melody count? 😜
That's what kills me about that performance. They got 30,000 fans to sing along... to an instrumental. That's insane.
This was a popular Guitar hero song
Weird watching it in mirror image!

Could you please react to Hammerfall - Brotherhood, they are a Swedish band formed in 1993 😅
Lol...YYZ
The song is structured and played exactly as Studio version...👍 No notes different from the LP...
XYZed
What you don't see is them playing synth with key peddles.
It's weird that the video is reversed and seeing Getty and Alex play like they're left handed.
No. This is their second night in Rio and they are just such good musicians that they could play switch to make it more interesting for them. Kind of like a B side show. Top form Rush.
did u say sonic?
What's up with the mirror image video?
Left-handed Rush gives me a headache. 😅
You said XYZ. It is YYZ
The video is inverted.
