Life long mopar guy but new rt dakota owner and wanted to say thanks your Dakota videos are super helpful like this one which is what I got to do this morning thanks 🙏
Awesome John《☆》Good job Brother🤓👍🏾With the U joint under the brake resevoir it's probably had brake fluid spilled on it over the years contributing to deterioration :*: Greetings from🦎Florida🤳my friend🤓🗣🔊☮✌👍🏾
Dude you covered everything so well. I have the exact same problem so now I know what to do. The steering wheel being "off" would not be the issue that the play is, plus I need tires and an alignment anyway. Thanks for such a professional video! David, South Carolina
Hey Jon there are little needle bearings in that joint heat didn't do it ...time and turns have it is a typical replacement part and that but and bolt in truck is always a hard bolt because of the lock nut on the bolt ..I did mine also about a month ago bought it through Detroit Axel on e-bay $34.60 with free shipping 👍all suspension part must meet all safety standards in USA oem or better..👍✌️
Mahalo for your posting Boosted! I have been searching for this steering column part # for my Dakota R/T since 2014. I just ordered it! By the way, I love your hellcat swap! keep it up!
I just did this same repair. Spent and extra hour trying to get the steering wheel straight. taking it loose as rack, taking it loose under dash, and could not get it to line up either. Did doing the alignment actually solve this problem? Frustrated. Just seems like wheel is way off for an alignment to bring it back but will do that next step.
So I replaced my s shaft as well but the nut and bolt on the shaft was a real pain in the rump coming off and sliding the shaft back on was not fun ether but got it done ☑️
my buddy wayne was good with alignment an we would get the manual steering box adjusted, aan would be allmost good as powder steering, for many years there was only manual steering..an if you had trouble you could cal 9 juan juan, lol....
Besides the slop in the steering did you have any feel difference in taking the steering from lock to lock. I have an 05 Dakota and the steering is choppy. It will go from hard to soft repeatedly from lock to lock. I’ve heard this can be the intermediate shaft.
I tried this on my Durango except I can’t get the bolt to go through the hole at the top of the shaft, where it connects to the steering wheel. The bolt and nut combo you said was a rough one to get off. Any ideas? That’s my only hold up.
My father-in-law's 99 3.9 is doing the same thing. I don't your headers are a problem. Too bad about the steering wheel being off. I also wonder about the brand to brand difference.
Would this be why when I go off-road and over bumps it clicks and if I let so it goes side to side? I’ve replaced almost everything and n my front end and brand new shocks and quick strut all around
yep, you will find something to worry about, lol..you may have to call curly larry an moe,or i meant, manny moe an jack...lol..put it in an shotgun six beers an go do donouts etc an yell an holler,an all will be well...
Here is the 2WD intermediate shaft we used

Excellent .
Hey question I looked up this part and it says it fits 97-00 but I have an 01 2wd? Will it fit
Could you reclock the steering wheel?
No the steering wheel is keywayed also and it would damage the clock spring for the air bag.
@@ronaldmoparornocar9590 Yeah wasn't sure if it was keyed or not. Some reason I was thinking my Jetta was just splined and not keyed.
Ah yes the intermediate shaft. I remember doing this on my r/t. Very common
Would this be why when I go off-road and over bumps it clicks and if I let so it goes side to side? I’ve replaced almost everything and n my front end and brand new shocks and quick strut all around
Can this cause my truck to veer off when letting go of the steering wheel
It must be different for 4wd. I've changed these before and you only change the lower portion of the steering shaft.
Uses set screws to attach.

and jesus said, jon, boy..your troubled about so many little trivial things..hells bells, lol..you said,...huge hole....beavis...
So was the header responsible for destroying that steering shaft?
