    The reason you're suppose to run a higher rpm for a long idle time is so that the Diesel Particulate Filter doesn't get sooted up causing the engine to do re-gens more frequently.

      My 22 cascadia they did a recall have it at 9rpm always they said the rocker arms were breaking funny I ran into a Werner driver with 50k miles with his engine knocking but luckily I didn’t idle at night my first year with the truck never heard of that issue in years past but yes low idle scares me but the noise at 9rm is annoying for sure even during the day

    The company you work for must have the truck programmed differently. Raising the rpms or releasing the tractor brake doesn't work for me.

    It's good to save fuel, but it's important to keep the rpm @ 700 at least while ideling you truck to keep enough oil going to the turbo. Also you don't need injector problems in the future.

  • @1978mackdaddy
    @1978mackdaddy 2 роки тому +4

    You can release your tractor brake, Put it in drive and it will go into neutral after a few minutes and idle all night. No need to wait for the shutdown screen to pop up. Word of advice, Always use wheel chocks. You will sleep better.

    For those, who still struggling - some trucks (like mine) are programmed to shut off no matter what - nothing will help. I even unplug mirror temp sensor, which worked for one of my friends, it still shutting off. The only way for me was to turn this "innovation" off at a dealer (not for free ofcourse). Every new bell and whistle in modern trucks are just another money making option for a manufacturer. Unfortunately.

    Dude thank you so much my company has the optimized idle I could not figure it out I got my dog on the truck and he's a black lab is hot and now I know how to keep the air conditioning going without revving it all up glad one of us figured it out man

    Hey man I just got a brand new 2022 Freightliner I've always had an APU and man do I miss it but I will say I've heard from countless mechanics that the reason you raise the idol is a to get enough circulation going through the entire engine and turbo and b because that lowest idle the oil starts to become acidic when the idol is raised it pressurizes the oil and keeps it from becoming acidic and eating your gaskets and engine parts up

    Good morning! I just tried this method right now. The idle for this 2018 would always raise up while I would be sleeping and would worry me.
    But as soon as you showed us the method of idling low. The RPMs did come down.
    Much appreciated

      You’re very welcome. But I’ve read some comments on here where ppl say it’s best to have the rpm raised up to keep the flow of oil or whatever they where saying but I look at it like this… these vehicles ain’t made to last forever an the main thing everybody tryna do now is save fuel so yea I idle my trucc this way I’m not raising my rpm to waste fuel… 🤷🏽‍♂️

    You're supposed to idle the truck so you don't get what's called cylinder wash it also will mess up your injectors and possibly your Turbo so you do need to raise the RPM to approximately 700 RPM so saving fuel is nice but it's way more expensive for a Turbo and injectors hope that helps

    I love ways to save money and reduce operating costs! But here is something to think about! At idle you will use about 3/4 of a gallon of fuel, per hour! At around 600 rpm! Using approximately 7.4 gallons in 10 hours! Setting your truck to idle so it does not shut off, running at around 800rpm. You will use approximately 1 gallon of fuel per hour! In a 10 hour period that means you use 10 gallons! What you should consider is this!
    Is saving $10 in fuel over a 10 hour period really saving you money or costing you more! Over a year you might end up saving $8,000 - $10,000 in fuel cost, which is good! Or is it? Because it will Reduce the life of the engine! But if it’s not your truck! You probably do not care!
    The truck engine does not operate at its peak temperature when a truck is idle. This situation may affect the engine’s useful life.
    Idling will not wholly combust the fuel. It will leave residue behind, which may cause damage to the truck’s exhaust system.

  • @Sean-hi4wt
    @Sean-hi4wt 3 роки тому +2

    That’s not entirely safe IMO. And I never set my trailer brakes. That’s what people do who want to get stuck. You’re supposed to raise the idle (mines at 800) to keep the oil flowing to the top to keep everything cool. The way you’re doing it saves fuel now but will cause more issues down the road. Best of luck though!

    all these people talking about "high idle, is necessary" I don't believe it ALWAYS has to be high idle: like at the fuel island or for a short break. That "instant 900 rpms" seems like overkill.

    ATTENTION*******Your truck needs to be idled up so that the turbo gets enough oil. At low idle the oil pressure is not high enough to get sufficient oil to the turbo. Trucks would not be setup to shut down after a short time at low idle otherwise. Why would they require high idle to stay running if there wasn't a good reason? Manufacturers are under strict emission standards and companies are always worried about fuel consumption for good reason. Neither the manufacturer nor the trucking company would require high idle if there wasn't a reason. I'm actually surprised that they don't want you idling at higher than 700rpm also.

    Dont do this shit. You'll have a shit load of problems with def and the freightliner computer system later down the road. I have tried this method in a 2016 2017 and 18 DONT DO THIS GUYS HORRIBLE ADVICE. Respect to your channel but this info is setting owner ops for a world of hurt. Swift Werner etc do this all day everyone else who is with companies who care dont do this.

  • @americanosbadassius9292
    @americanosbadassius9292 Рік тому

    Drivers aren't mechanics or engineers. You want to be running your RPMs at least at 700 or you will cause damage to the engine, the injectors and the Turbo in the long run. This is because you want to get oil and fuel to where they're needed so the engine is lubricated properly and preventable breakdown is averted.
    Better to spend money on fuel, then to spend more money on truck repairs which could sideline your rig and then you're not making any money!
