The reason you're suppose to run a higher rpm for a long idle time is so that the Diesel Particulate Filter doesn't get sooted up causing the engine to do re-gens more frequently.
My 22 cascadia they did a recall have it at 9rpm always they said the rocker arms were breaking funny I ran into a Werner driver with 50k miles with his engine knocking but luckily I didn’t idle at night my first year with the truck never heard of that issue in years past but yes low idle scares me but the noise at 9rm is annoying for sure even during the day
The company you work for must have the truck programmed differently. Raising the rpms or releasing the tractor brake doesn't work for me.
It's good to save fuel, but it's important to keep the rpm @ 700 at least while ideling you truck to keep enough oil going to the turbo. Also you don't need injector problems in the future.
You can release your tractor brake, Put it in drive and it will go into neutral after a few minutes and idle all night. No need to wait for the shutdown screen to pop up. Word of advice, Always use wheel chocks. You will sleep better.
For those, who still struggling - some trucks (like mine) are programmed to shut off no matter what - nothing will help. I even unplug mirror temp sensor, which worked for one of my friends, it still shutting off. The only way for me was to turn this "innovation" off at a dealer (not for free ofcourse). Every new bell and whistle in modern trucks are just another money making option for a manufacturer. Unfortunately.
Dude thank you so much my company has the optimized idle I could not figure it out I got my dog on the truck and he's a black lab is hot and now I know how to keep the air conditioning going without revving it all up glad one of us figured it out man
Hey man I just got a brand new 2022 Freightliner I've always had an APU and man do I miss it but I will say I've heard from countless mechanics that the reason you raise the idol is a to get enough circulation going through the entire engine and turbo and b because that lowest idle the oil starts to become acidic when the idol is raised it pressurizes the oil and keeps it from becoming acidic and eating your gaskets and engine parts up
I understand that completely. I was just saying this is an option for those who want to idle this way.
Thanks so much been trucking 12 years and didnt know that.Goes to show nobody knows everything. Again thx GOD Bless
You’re very welcome glad I could help
It's not doing your truck any good to run the RPMs that low, don't do it!
Good morning! I just tried this method right now. The idle for this 2018 would always raise up while I would be sleeping and would worry me.
But as soon as you showed us the method of idling low. The RPMs did come down.
Much appreciated
You’re very welcome. But I’ve read some comments on here where ppl say it’s best to have the rpm raised up to keep the flow of oil or whatever they where saying but I look at it like this… these vehicles ain’t made to last forever an the main thing everybody tryna do now is save fuel so yea I idle my trucc this way I’m not raising my rpm to waste fuel… 🤷🏽♂️
@@keiyennehijin8643
Better to waste fuel than waste a truck.
You're supposed to idle the truck so you don't get what's called cylinder wash it also will mess up your injectors and possibly your Turbo so you do need to raise the RPM to approximately 700 RPM so saving fuel is nice but it's way more expensive for a Turbo and injectors hope that helps
Thank you man appreciate that works in 2019 too I used the optimised idle it shut off and on but sometimes it takes forever to idle again
Thanks for this video. I raised my RPM to ideal the truck and it worked. 😁
Thank you for this video nothing been helping me to idle since my company got it locked to where I can't idle but I have a apu but it have to get looked at next week so this helped me out big time 💪🏽💯
You’re very welcome ☺️
Thank you boss. I was freezing in my truck in Chicago at night
Thanks for everything
Thank you! I couldn't figure it out for all my searching
You’re welcome glad I could help
So you lay In your bunk all nite wondering and hoping the trlr brakes hold ,I would be smart to chock your front wheels just in case
Thank you for this video it’s a huge help
Mike Rogaczewski you welcome bro I’m glad I could help out.
Thank you brother! That did the trick! 👍🏼
You’re very welcome
So I just got one today we're is the jake brake at trying to learn the truck?
I love ways to save money and reduce operating costs! But here is something to think about! At idle you will use about 3/4 of a gallon of fuel, per hour! At around 600 rpm! Using approximately 7.4 gallons in 10 hours! Setting your truck to idle so it does not shut off, running at around 800rpm. You will use approximately 1 gallon of fuel per hour! In a 10 hour period that means you use 10 gallons! What you should consider is this!
Is saving $10 in fuel over a 10 hour period really saving you money or costing you more! Over a year you might end up saving $8,000 - $10,000 in fuel cost, which is good! Or is it? Because it will Reduce the life of the engine! But if it’s not your truck! You probably do not care!
The truck engine does not operate at its peak temperature when a truck is idle. This situation may affect the engine’s useful life.
Idling will not wholly combust the fuel. It will leave residue behind, which may cause damage to the truck’s exhaust system.
You know what….. I absolutely agree… I guess to each his own an his own situation.
I didn't see that in the manual thanks for the vid bro
Dreadmon SMKR you’re welcome 😉
Thx for your help.its very helpful
Happy to help
Thanks bro I, my method is same just push in the parking brake once I turned the engine on. Never thought to use your method wait until the idol performance shutdown comes on then engaged the parking brake. I drive freightliner Cascadia 2019. It will shutdown after 30 minutes I noticed. 👍
Dig it. Glad I could help 💪🏽
I love the video
I have a 2019 cascadia but it doesn't have optimized idle is there anything I can do to keep it on
This is all I know
@@keiyennehijin8643 Thank you!
That’s not entirely safe IMO. And I never set my trailer brakes. That’s what people do who want to get stuck. You’re supposed to raise the idle (mines at 800) to keep the oil flowing to the top to keep everything cool. The way you’re doing it saves fuel now but will cause more issues down the road. Best of luck though!
Non of them working on my truck. Reg idle shutting down in 30min. And tractor brake the same. I did comfort on, it only last 45 min. Now trying to do tractor brake release and drive mode, let’s see.
all these people talking about "high idle, is necessary" I don't believe it ALWAYS has to be high idle: like at the fuel island or for a short break. That "instant 900 rpms" seems like overkill.
I agree
Good thanks
No problem glad I could help
Thank you I was frizzing
You’re welcome. Glad I could help 💪🏽
Damn that shyt work like a bastard thx bruh! 😆
Lol you’re welcome bro 😂😂😂
I'd love to see a DOT officer react to this 😂
Well share it with one an make it go viral
Bet that up my boy💯💯
Thank you
You’re welcome 😇
what if im only bobtail?
When I’m bobtail I just choc my wheels in anyway I can
Lol
Ty ty 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
you’re welcome. glad I could help
Not very safe while being loaded/unloaded. Wheel chocks are your friend. ↘
Thank you lawdddddddd
You’re welcome 😇
ATTENTION*******Your truck needs to be idled up so that the turbo gets enough oil. At low idle the oil pressure is not high enough to get sufficient oil to the turbo. Trucks would not be setup to shut down after a short time at low idle otherwise. Why would they require high idle to stay running if there wasn't a good reason? Manufacturers are under strict emission standards and companies are always worried about fuel consumption for good reason. Neither the manufacturer nor the trucking company would require high idle if there wasn't a reason. I'm actually surprised that they don't want you idling at higher than 700rpm also.
So what does the deactivate mean when mine pop up and say how to performance shutting down when mine shut down it shuts down and doesn't start back up
Idk. I didn’t have that problem
What conpany do you work for sir! 😍 Love that styling new truck 🚚!!
Aarron Ortiz UA Truccing outta Charlotte, NC
What's the solution if I am only bobtail? 🤔
choke wheels is your friend
Lol
Think u driver
But won’t the truck roll!!
Yes if you’re bobtailed down it’s good to choc your wheels but if you have a trailer attached just leave the trailer brakes set an it won’t roll
I hate this truck and love to get out of it, give me back my 2012 International Prostar.
i would rev it 2000 more rpms. low idle rpms are not good for a diesel engine
Ok just to be clear, you can tell us how to do it in a 2013-2018? And 2021-2022 LoL jk jk
Lol lmmfao idk about them years 😂😂😂😂

My Volvo on repair, that’s why I drive this damn freighliner for 3 weeks. Sorry but I hate it.
Just get a APU then you will save alot of fuel
Everybody can’t afford it 🤷🏽♂️
how do u bypass governed speed??
Romone Jr Manning idk bro
Lol for real 65mph is too slow. But you can press the gas pedal twice & the truck will go at least 68. Only for 30mins a day though.
@@enforcer11000 works on the 2012 model but not on the newer one.
Become a owner operator!
Just have to say you have a dog in the sleeper and they have to diable the auto shut off.
Idleint is so out of date and bad for rig and fuel economy, younare literally throwing money out the window
Everyone don’t have APU’s on their truk. Also they are creating these rigs to idle better with less wear on the engine just google search it. But I understand where you’re coming from tho.
I mean really who would trust the trailer brakes to hold a fully loaded 18teen wheeler YEAH LETS DISENGAGE THE MAIN TRUCK BRAKES AND GO TO SLEEP you will wake up with another truck driver trying to kill you because you destroyed both of your trucks cause your truck rolled out of your parking space and into the other truck drivers Rig ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
Five fucking minutes to say Release parking brake but apply trailer brake and engine will idle.
Lol hater
Dont do this shit. You'll have a shit load of problems with def and the freightliner computer system later down the road. I have tried this method in a 2016 2017 and 18 DONT DO THIS GUYS HORRIBLE ADVICE. Respect to your channel but this info is setting owner ops for a world of hurt. Swift Werner etc do this all day everyone else who is with companies who care dont do this.
Drivers aren't mechanics or engineers. You want to be running your RPMs at least at 700 or you will cause damage to the engine, the injectors and the Turbo in the long run. This is because you want to get oil and fuel to where they're needed so the engine is lubricated properly and preventable breakdown is averted.
Better to spend money on fuel, then to spend more money on truck repairs which could sideline your rig and then you're not making any money!
Much better idea… leave it to the brother man not the other man🫡😉
