Optimized Idle - Engine Not Running Training Video

- As a feature of interior driver comfort and through the utilization of the new interactive dash, Optimized Idle can operate without the engine running.
Opti idle induces sleep deprivation from the engine starting and stopping and alarms going off while you're trying to sleep.
Auxiliary Power Units (APU) gives a driver a comfortable restful sleep.
It’s crazy I thought mine was low on coolant only cools for about 30 min then starts the engine over and over
Agreed. All in the name of corporate profit while safety is blame on the driver. There should be a safety standard against opti idle.

I’m driving 2019 and it’s either to cold or to hot in the truck. Right now I’m sweating and truck isn’t starting, It’s 101F outside. Who ever came up with it should have put the thermostat inside the cab.
There's a "Continuous Comfort Mode" that I somehow activated & Idk how in a 2020 Cascadia.
If we could figure that one out.......
Then there wouldn't be any Hot/Cold issues
Metal Gear mine is not working I did how the video say and does not start it shows that it’s in Stan by mode but won’t crank over or the ac work on the back

Guys found out from the mechanic freightliner set the default start stop temps to like 38-104 mechanic had to set the default parameters to38 and 68° they said they have been seeing it a lot on the 2020 models coming into the shop hope that helps everyone. They think it something freightliner probably just missed in the programming

Just got into one of these trucks and already suffering from sleep deprivation. It either freezes me out of the truck or it's so hot you can't breathe. Terrible system does not work. No vents on the top bunk. Had a passenger with me they were miserable constantly up there. Terrible design. I would take my old truck back over this any day
Yeah, I'm in the new 2022 cascadia and nothing has changed. They do come with a mounted fan in sleeper, lot of good that'll do us.. I was told it was next Gen and that it has improved. I've already signed my life away, over a lie(s). Only two years, then I go back to kenworth.
Agreed. Its sad because if it weren't for this I'd love my truck . Very spacious and handles well on the road, but this one single issue is enough for me to straight up never get a freightliner when I get assigned a new truck, or if I go owner operator. If I go owner operator I'll probably get a Peterbilt , but im open to trying out KW, or Mack. I'd prefer to avoid International, but if I absolutely must I'll do it before getting another Cascadia. Again not a bad truck in terms of driving, but the stupid "opti idle" is a deal breaker for me.
@@bernchyu1181 what's ur opinion on KW? I'm a company driver and at the moment I'm stuck in a Cascadia. Personally it drives well and is quite spacious inside, but this issue with the idling is a deal breaker for me. I can handle the summer, but in Michigan winters can be brutal at times, and I'm not about to put up with that. I recently started and the company will give a newer truck in a bout 6 months , or so they say, so if possible I'd like to exchange this Freightliner with a KW since its the only "good" make my company carries . Personally my long term goal is to go owner operator and start up my own small business, and while I was initially set on getting a peterbilt, im open to what you have to say about Kenworth.
Im in a ‘22 company truck. Above 90 ambient and below 30 don’t use opti. Truck will stay on regardless. Your big-wigs might have opted for different temps but my particular truck is fine in extremes. Looking for that temp sensor to put a hair dryer on at night to stay cool. Not even kidding. That or an idler defeat switch to just hit the button for me.
Top bunks got a vent in the truck im in but definitely freezes or cooks no matter what and down in Florida it's no fun at all. Can't imagine what it's gonna be like when I get back to Texas

I have 2019 114sd my company just bought, and I can't figure out how to get it to stay on either. Usually if you put cruise control on it'll stay on, but there's like a system bypass or something that keeps it cutting off. It's too cold for this...
Is a bit different in a company truck. Mine refuses to turn on because wrecking a rig from sleep deprivation is clearly cheaper than burning fuel.

The bullshit is half the time it doesn’t work. Then you have dispatch bitching about why your truck was running all night because you had to find a way to make it stay on
WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS IS NOT A TRUCK DRIVER AT ALL BUT A PENCIL PUSHER WHO GOES HOME TO SLEEP. YOU WILL NOT REST PROPERLY BUT WAKE UP IN A SWEAT BOX DAY OR NIGHT IN THE SUMMER. JUST DRIVE FOR SOMEONE WHO LETS THERE TRUCKS IDLE AND FIND A COMFORTABLE TEMP TO SET YOUR AC

I’m in a 2019 Cascadia and I can set it up for opti idle. The truck will run and cool of the cab, but when it shuts down, it doesn’t restart. I have to go back up front and turn off the key and reset it back up. I can use the fan control knob in the sleeper as a control switch for the opti idle. I can set the truck up and cool it off, but then turn off the fan and the truck will shut off. When I wake up hot I turn on the knob and the truck will restart. So darned annoying. I’ve had opti idle trucks since 2005. This one, I almost wish I didn’t have. I’ve had this for 3wks and to yet get a solid nights sleep in it. Is winter coming soon???
If your truck isn’t starting to keep you cool, turn the optimized idle on while it’s running.
Turing it on while it’s not running will not work at all on the Crete Trucks.
Nothing on this planet makes me more angry than waking up HOT.
There is no going back to sleep because the interior of the truck takes time to cool down, I take longer to cool down when angry.
Just finished my day earlier, parked, and went to sleep.
Woke up 3 hours later thinking I was in a convection oven!
These new trucks are crap, I like to sleep cool on the days that I can get 7 hours of sleep.
The owners of these trucking companies are very aware of how much money they spend on fuel.
But totally ignorant of how much uninterrupted sleep their drivers are getting!
Some people are fine with 5 hours, but Dr’s say we should aim for 7.5!
God help the drivers, because no one cares about them until a pandemic!
Then when there is a pandemic we are just so wonderful, can’t get enough of those drivers bringing all of the things we need to the stores?
Let me add to this, sometimes it starts off working fine, until you go to bed and wake up in hells hot sleeper at 2 am, I’ll say this, it works when it works!
Tell me about it...they gave me a 2020 cascadia when I got hired....I'd of taken an older model any day because I barely get any sleep. No matter where you set the temp in the sleeper the truck won't fucking restart and it's killing me.
Fucking with this shit right now. And they wonder why I'm so tired...
I have a 2022 with western express. Western sets the opti idle between 35-74 degrees which is asanine. But now, my truck will turn on a few times in the first few hours then it stops turning on and I wake up just to do a cold start. And it keeps going into battery mode.
Great video!!! Can you also explain why the sleeper berth light will not stay on more than 15 seconds with every button push?
I have Opti Idle in a 2019, Day Cab. Going to Dealer to have it turned off next week. It's crazy to have the Engine start and shut down like that. I guess they will sell a lot of starters in the near future.

@@SamC992 exactly. Alot of wear on engine is starting it up. Thats why u never want to rev it high right after its been started. Let the rings oil up first for a min
Instead of installing optimized idle on trucks, just install APU and bunk heater from the factory and be done with it.
Also turn idle timers off
Only problem is the apu breaks down every other month

Current situation
I like everything except the opt idle. I literally have a switch on the dash labeled "Engine shutdown override" which is completely useless. Whoever came up with this idea needs their head checked.
I'm trying to wait for my truck to restart before I manually trick it to running for another 45 minutes. Ive only been able to endure 110 degrees before I give up. I think I'm going crazy from lack of sleep and dehydration.
Use a humidifier in your truck , it works great

In Phoenix now at triple digits temperatures mine does not work, I did everything in this video but the ‘comfort mode’ option does not come up on the screen, it automatically sends me to the screen that says ‘enable opti idle/engine may stop/start running.
Once I pushed OK works for a few hours and then it stops. I just woke up all sweaty and this crap does not work. Any ideas?
In a 2022 and the engine won't restart in this mode, manually have to run the engine and keep my foot on the accelerator so the 2 minute idle timeout doesn't activate
Many if these menus don't even pop up like interior comfort etc

I just started driving for them and woke up to a cold bunk twice now and even had to get a jump start yesterday. So keeping A close eye on it tonight. I was going through the menus and captured the possible culprit for this truck. In Orange letters it said hood latched And the Box was not checked and the other 2 conditions were good to go then being Vehicle is in neutral and the parking brake was set. I already talked to maintenance tonight and the mechanic did not know of a hood switch And his supervisor did not know either.
Any tips on why the truck thinks the hood isn’t latched when it definitely is? A sensor no doubt but where?
It works great for me. I don't even know when it starts and stops. I guess I just got used to it.
Why doesn’t my 2021 cascadia have interior comfort mode?? It has standby on optimized idle there’s no comfort mode in any settings?

I have a question. Everytime the idle starts the engine (after the beep) it turns off for a second and then on all my devices in the back… tv, microwave, phone chargers, cpap machine, etc. is there any way to avoid that???
So the engine is going to be starting and stopping all night long? That appears to be annoying.
Better than sweating all night long.

Its not an issue. Won't wake you up. At least not myself. What will wake you up is when the truck doesn't restart & you wake up in dripping sweat.
Nope! It's very useful! The engine shuts off, never coming back on and depending on the season you either sweat to death or freeze to death. Either way the results are the same: the company saves money on fuel/insurance and we as drivers are just a tool to be used until we break, which will happen faster due to the grueling conditions we're constantly battling, both inside and outside the truck. We're not even going to talk about diet. Pish.
Having an issue where the front blowers come on randomly as if having it on with key in on position with opti idle off after a few minutes and leave the temp/AC setting off. Is this just a glitch or or something? Any secrets around this
So, this featured mode works okay for "Cold Startibility," what about getting some heat going? My bunker keeps shutting off due to low voltage. So, does Interior Comfort Mode only comfort those under 3 out of the 4 seasons? I have been lacking sleep all week.
Am I forced to push the yellow valve in and chalk the wheels, going against my companies policies and idle full time, to keep warm just to get some sleep?

Oddball McKenzy interior comfort is supposed to be off when using bunk heater it being on is only for when you want the fans to control more then the bunk heater

I have a 2017 freightliner cascadia evolution and I do all the steps and steps for the box and truck never cools off and the light never comes on the dash so I don't know what else to do

I'm in '19 Cascadia. What I wanna know is what is the cycle time for interior comfort mode. Does it run for 45min then turn off for 45min? I'm not to worried about continuous mode because for the most part it switches to continuous when I need it to. But in interior comfort mode, when the truck shuts off, how long until it starts up again?
When the truck gets BELOW the temperature setting ypu set in the truck ..Then it will come back on
I got a 2015 frieightliner cascadia which has the park smart in it but I want it to auto start/stop but idk how to do that besides from doing it the manual way. My question is that if theres a way to set up auto start/stop idling on there so incase my batteries need to be recharged is there a way to set that on this truck?

CLEARLY THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM FREIGHTLINER. WHY WOULD YOU GUYS NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM . IT WORKED GREAT ON THE PREVIOUS MODEL. WHY IN HELL WOULD Y’ALL CHANGE IT. F”ING ANNOYING. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST FREIGHTLINER FOR FATIGUED DRIVERS GETTING IN ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS CRAP.

APUs are clearly the better choice.
I don't understand why we're still debating this in 2022. NOBODY can convince me that starting and stopping your engine several times over the course of a ten hour break and idling your engine for several hours a night can be good for the motor, the quality of your rest or the environment.
I can't believe manufacturers are still selling this crappy system.
APUs, when properly maintained are 100 percent more efficient.
Question.... So do you always leave the ignition key on???? Or once you program it you turn the key back off????
Leave it on truck suppose to start up but honestly mine 2018 sucks it idles for 30 minutes maybe then shuts off I was told to turn the temp knob so that it's dead center of hot and cold but still shuts down and doesn't wanna start back until I mess with it a bit

I agree ... what a crappy system .. mine failed to start in the -45 weather gave me the message key cycle required ... when cycled .. it just clicked ... nuthing ... damb near froze to death ... sounded like starter was stuck .. so i banged it and crossed the conections and it started ... junk snd yes ... zero sleep every time this thing starts ..
I've had mine a week. It must not be set right because it will not start on it's in own and I'm sweating. Whahhhhh

I just got a truck with this system. It's literally the worst system i've ever had to deal with. You can't sleep good at all. I'm literally about to quit over this stupid system. I'm literally exhausted every day
It’s not working I don’t know maybe it’s from temperature at video it’s 190 but my temperature is 170 it’s not on and it’s not first time my 2 am wake up and search info about optimized Idle I guess it’s not working or working half my truck new 2022 about that I don’t want to buy freightliner cascade

“Engine not running training video” insinuates you’ve got a video to troubleshoot why the optidle isn’t working. This video doesn’t do that. This is a how to use video. Extremely misleading and a waste of my time.

THE NEWER VERSION WITH solar panel apu will run
The A/C for 7-8 hrs then start up to charge the battery's but it sucks as well.
Just give us the old Tripack back or let us idle. The engineers that come up with this wouldn't want their bed shaking and rattling every 10 minutes.

2021 cascadia lame!!! Opt idle is junk. Your face will stay cool but you will wake sweaty. No ac in the cab while shut down?? There is a long list of problems with this interior design of this truck. Worst layout.
