guys.. hold on! origami is an art. if someone is teaching , try to learn. Anyone can fix a gift with a tape but it wud be more creditable if you take efforts and fold it this way. Well, I appreciate her ! thank you.
I love this! Didn't have tape at home and just wrapped a PS4 disk box with this method, and then decided to try it again with a dress without a box. I had to estimate the "length" and "breadth" of the folded dress to make the creases, and I struggled a little, but still turned out nice and neat! Thanks!
You are an absolute life saver - I had to deliver a last minute present before any shops were open but i had run out of tape and had no ribbon! This worked beautifully, and it was even easier because my present had about the same dimensions as yours in the vid.
those people who couldn't accomplish it, I guess you have clumsy hands. Nice idea!! my girlfriend loved it. Much better than a simple and usual tape wrapping.
Thank you!! Sure this will take longer to learn and more effort than taped up presents, but people will be amazed that it could be done without tape! I practiced with junk paper on a small "pretend" present a few times. Like anything awesome, there is a learning curve. After about 2 or 3 tries with old newspaper, it became much easier. This is beautiful!
Yes, it does take a bit more effort especially in the beginning. It's great to hear you practiced a little and are now ready for the real presents. I also believe that wrapping presents thoughtfully adds meaning to the presents, both to the gift giver and those that receive it.
Well actually... this wouldn't take very long to wrap. In the video, it takes 7 minutes, yes, but that's because he's explaining each step and pointing out what to fold/crease/etc. I was able to wrap this in five minutes after wrapping two or three presents, which is only like a minute longer than what it usually takes to wrap presents. Assuming you're not wrapping more than 20 or 30 presents, using this method isn't going to "waste your time." In the end, it looks very pretty, shows that you put a lot of care into it, AND saves tape/ribbon. Nice video ^^
At 3:15, you should stop & do a graphic of the exact diagonal crease line being made. Also, using a thicker book would _greatly_ enhance the clarity of the creases. A mnemonic for knowing youve got the right crease is: when you fold it over to make the diagonal, you can always see the "square." Thank you for this great video. (No more scotch tape, ever again!)
An amazing way to save up money without using ribbon or tape, wonderful #origami #giftwrap #tutorial ^_^ If you use newspaper you are also saving those trees! ;))))
Laurence Flint Krešimir Jurilj Happy holidays you two! And I will definitely not try to wrap you up both in the same present, lol the wrapping paper wouldn't take so much pressure!
It is deceptive that you chose to demonstrate with an object of this particular proportions. Trying to wrap any object in which the height is more than half its width has seemed to be impossible in all my tries. You should at least leave a notice about this in the description. EDIT: I see you have answered someone about a similar question. Apparently, it is effectively impossible to wrap any object in which height is equivalent or superior to half its width. Please put a note in the description, and/or in the video, so that everyone can see it before he/she wastes any time and patience trying to achieve something impossible.
happyfolding.com - enjoy origami online Ok, thanks. Sorry if I spoke too harsh, for I was a bit frustrated at the time after having tried a few times to no avail. Thanks for your patience ;)
probably i'm doing something wrong, but if i use a higher box or a book with much more pages i find myself in trouble when it comes to do the final steps of the present wrapping: I can't fold the two sides of the paper together to close the present (there's too much paper i will rip it), and at the same time the paper is too short and i can't reach the pocket in order to tuck the edges underneath it. Still, that's pretty awesome, thank you! I just need to understand what's the problem.
The width of the paper should be a bit more than required to wrap around the present. Ideally, the height of the paper shouldn't have more overlap (top and bottom each) than half the width of the present. At the same time, it does need to be able to cover the thickness of the present and a little extra. You can't achieve that if the present is at least as thick as half its width - as might be the case with thick books. Rotating the present might work in some cases, though. Hope this guidance helps you!
Thank you for your patience and yes, that's what i've noticed aswell, but hearing this from someone who knows what she's talking about makes everything very clear! Thank you!
Thanks! I think I got the general idea of it. Two of my first attempts weren't so successful (fixed them with a bit of tape) but the 3rd one stayed together without any tape or ribbon.
I've been using this method for a while now! Thank you! The only problem is that I've found it works best for books or other gifts that are not very thick. If it is too thick, the second to last step where you fold the raw edges together doesn't work because of the dimensions.
I found this a great idea, but very difficult to execute with normal wrapping paper. It took me 30 minutes to wrap the first gift and the second gift I couldn’t even get the “box” step to work very well. I was trying to wrap amazon boxes. It is actually very frustrating. I normally try to enjoy wrapping and strive for almost perfection, and I found this method uses a lot more wrapping paper and produced not as tight creases and I couldn’t even get the final tabs to get anywhere near the slots to fold them in. Maybe you could demonstrate this technique on an actual box with actual wrapping paper?
What do you mean by an actual box (dimensions)? I used a book. As to wrapping paper - this is wrapping paper, but perhaps not the kind you usually use?
Terraria Fan I found it to work well with various papers I used. Crisp paper works better than soft paper, though. And if the paper is very slick, be sure to make strong creases and wrap the present as tightly as possible. You might also want to put the wrapped present underneath something heavy for a couple of hours to tighten the creases - at least if the present can take the weight. ;)
I do wrap a lot of gifts every Christmas! and we have cut a lot! We don't give to a lot of people anymore‼️but In the old times I probably wrapped around 100 gifts, at least! It was crazy!!! It was exhausting to say the least‼️and still is, but I only do half of what I used to wrap‼️😱🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
Wow, that's quite impressive! We only give the kids within the closer family gifts (our kids, nieces and nephews), and mostly token presents (calendar with photos of the kids and us) to our parents and grandparents. That does limit the gift wrapping to well below 50, more like 20 or so.
It's more about sharing the art of origami to the receiver, while reducing the use of tape and ribbon at the same time. Beside it's not hard when you know how it work, u can skip the "make a triangle line" step, it still work
Best to practise on unwanted items, I should think. I wonder how much paper is consumed in practising enough to make it look this easy. I am not sure that it works on square items. It would also help to use paper that has been treated so as not to roll up.
You're right, this method doesn't work on a cubic item, but is great for books and similarly shaped items. I also agree that it's a good idea to practice the method with e.g. old newspaper before using special wrapping paper.
I used wrapping paper, which is called Kraft paper ("Kraftpapier"). It characteristically has visible lines showing the direction in which the paper fibres run, a side effect of how it's produced, I believe. You can read more about it here: www.happyfolding.com/paper-review_kraft - although for the review a much thinner variant was used.
Wonderful technique. but there's one little problem with bigger packages. If the depth of the object is bigger than half the width of the object, the northern and southern "walls" of the package from left and right collide.
Not even half. I tried wrapping a book where the thickness is only about 1/3 of the width and the diagonal folds intersected. Good thing I did a test run on some scrap paper first.

Thank you :)
Manasi P right?! Like, why the stupid box suddenly doesn't fit. I followed the instructions and still is a horrid mess.
This is my favorite way to wrap gifts. Just the paper, very enviro-friendly, no plastic tape & saves money too ! :0)

Thank you for this video! It was immensely helpful. Wrapped all my gifts with this!
Great! Now people can spy the present without having to wait for the Christmas party, and no one will ever notice...
