Mad respect for people who actually do this for all of their presents. I attempted to follow this for one (1) present, and two hours later, I was crying on the kitchen floor surrounded by crumpled wrapping paper from all of my failed attempts.
First I saw "multiple camera angles" and then I saw "slow instructions". I clicked like. Then I watched the video, because I was interested - but I already wanted to show my appreciation for your understanding of the importance of multiple angles and slow instructions even before I watched.
I never realized there might be such a different way to wrap presents. It's just something that never occurred to me to even wonder about. Cultural differences are so fun and exciting, even little things like this.

I find this method of wrapping fascinating. I loved the step by step demonstration. I love the meaning behind the method of wrapping in Japan. They take the time to show the value of who they are giving a gift to by taking the time to wrap there gifts. Not paying someone to do it for them or just handing a gift card. None wasteful. Can be reused if no writing on package and opened just by they one piece of tape. I am definitely trying it for the holidays.

PEOPLE!!! In Japan wrapping matters, it shows that you care about the person you’re giving it to, the wrapping is part of the present. Sure in America or wherever else you live you can just wrap your presents how you want, without “wasting paper”, in this video she is just showing how they do it in Japan, she by all means never said “you HAVE to wrap your presents like this!”. I find it incredibly stupid to say “oh well that’s wasting paper, and it takes to much time with to many steps” 1. She says in the video that “once you get it, it could take less than 30 seconds” and 2. That’s not even that many steps, to me it would definitely be worth those steps to make my presents look like that. I think this video was very helpful and I’m definitely going to try it this Christmas!^ - ^
Rosa 833 The Japanese worry how the gift is wrapped because it shows how much they care. We give the worst gift (gift card) that shows we dont even care enough to find out what our loved ones are into/need.
My family is German/Irish/Austrian, we were taught to wrap with love & respect, too! Now that I know My Cherokee/Ojibwe heritage, I also say prayers while I fold paper, and wrap each gift!

I've watched a TON of gift wrapping videos and read articles on the Japan Wrapping Technique and have never been able to make sense of it even if I somewhat succeeded in doing it! The explanations of how to make sure you have enough paper and how to lay the gift down before beginning helps SO much! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
My mother in her 80’s now wrapped every gift herself at Christmas 9 great grandchildren 7 grandchildren 2 children. Plus friends and family. It was so important that each gift was special wrapped to perfection. Receiving these made it so special. If she would have seen this she would have been wrapping in this style.
This was extremely instructional, I find it typical to be unsure of what is happening when watching origami or things of that nature, but it was very clear as to what each step was

I agree too, but would prefer to see the short clip at the beginning (as long as you provide an explanation that the slower and clearer directions will follow). I almost stopped watching because the instrux seemed so long and complex, but if you could first see it being done easily, it would make a difference!
The sad thing is even after living in Japan for 12 years and seen it done countless times in stores, I still could not get the knack of this on my own, and never found anyone who could show and explain it as well as you have. You've done terrific with this vid.

Excellent demonstration and instruction. I like that you make sure to show the fold, repetition is key of teaching, after you make it so it is very easy too see what you are doing. Viewer has less need to rewind the video. The result is perfect too.
Having lived in Japan for a while, I marveled at the beautiful wrapping technique used even in the smallest of shops. It made me feel very special. I saved a couple of the packages, but this is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen to teach me the steps. Thank you so much for this instruction!
Beautiful instructions! You didn't push ahead, you made sure we understood each fold and direction of the angle before moving on (this is how to lose math students, pushing onward without them getting each step), and ending up with a lovely, wrapped with love present. Our mom was from Japan. She could do some amazing folds with paper and turn a present into A PRESENT! LOL, no one wanted to touch them for a while and were so gingerly in amazement while deconstructing each little step :) Thank you!!!
I just realized how good Japanese people are with maintaining things and how they try not to waste a lot. It’s so fascinating. Compared to how I wrap which always ends up with like hundreds of scraps and ripped tape. I love this technique a lot more. Thanks for this vid 👏

I'm very grateful for the multiple camera angles, clear and concise instructions, as well as a friendly voice over, intro, and outro (conclusion.) ^_^ I cannot WAIT to give this a try!! Fun fact: I was the designated expert family gift-wrapper for most of my life (age 10 to age 33-ish) and as such, I've always been on the lookout for fun, unique ways of gift-wrapping. This video combines my two interests of origami AND gift wrapping -- and it tickles my OCD for 4-corner neatness -- so this truly, truly looks a treat to execute! Though it MAY waste a little paper, it shows how the gift-giver REALLY CARES about how he/she wraps the present (s) which they are giving. 😍 Some or maybe even most people don't even CARE about how the "wrapping" looks. This is a wonderful video which shows how the gift-giver really actually CARES about how a present looks when the recipient receieves the present. To me, it shows how the "giver" is thinking MORE about their friends/family members by wrapping the gift very nicely! Great video - keep up the great "wrapping instructions" which, as I said before, show how the "giver" really actually cares about the present, presentation, and, recipient!!! I did it with a box that was 14" x 20", so it was difficult keeping the wrapping paper from crinkling, but it came out great. Thanks for the step by step. I love this method.
This is so intricate. Then I read a comment about what detailed wrapping means in Japan and I think that is so sweet. I was so suprised by the card slot at the end. My friends and I usually wrap each other's gifts with layers of duck tape, seran wrap, secret notes, and paper to show how much we care (haha, it's all with fun and love, I promise) about each other, so now I want to add this cute method. I kind of have to agree that this is unnecessarily complicated, but I do very much appreciate the culture behind it. I’d be very impressed and honored if I received a present that way. I’m not going to wrap presents this way, but I can appreciate that this is a legitimate way of doing it. :)
I'm so confused on why people are saying it's a waste of paper? In the video she's using the *exact* amount she needs. In the U.S., we waste even more by trying to overcompensate in fear of running short, end up folding it in or cutting off the excess and end up with a bunch of unusable, useless strips that end up trashed.
@@43Rhein10 Maybe you're more efficient with paper, but most people aren't. They don't usually use the extra pieces unless they actually have gifts small enough to use em. And if they don't, well that extra paper goes to the trash.

This is wonderful - so creative and 'arty'. Here in the U.S. we just stuff things into a bag, throw a piece of tissue paper on top, and call it a present. In Japan they take time and creativity to show how much they care for the person who is receiving the gift.

I dont rlly understand ppl saying its a waste of paper or time bc if u wrap this way u can reuse the paper again and again, also like u said in the video once u get used to it u can do it a lot faster u were obviously going slow to demonstrate which i super appreciated!! I struggle a lot with wrapping gifts and this method would help a lot so thank u i rlly enjoyed it.
Wow...looks neat...and when done properly the recipient will know the giver really took special time to wrap the gift. And needs less adhesive tape too. That's so lit!
I love this! I always, by default, buy bags and tissue paper because of my horrible wrapping jobs. I have a few gifts ready for this Christmas and tried this out, it took a few tries but I can now do it without holding flaps down with tape and just use the one piece at the end. For those that are salty about this, you don’t have to do it. In a lot of cultures and even just family values, presentation matters just as much as the gift and the best thing about this method is that it all comes out in one piece! Reduce reuse recycle (my family’s frugal, come at me) thank you for this tutorial!! :)
If you are careful, you can almost always reuse the wrapping paper. You have to be careful with the tape/unwrapping. Rewrapping requires that the next item is mostly the same size. It seems like it requires a box shape, too. The demonstrated way is really ingenious, and I have to try it out.
I.. always use one piece unless the box is larger than the paper I have. Honestly... this is much more complicated than what my mom taught me and uses an extra length of paper, which means more waste.. Sadly I don’t think it’s worth it. Except for the card slot.

But I think my wrapping method is a similar waste of paper than this one. So I might try it out. I don't have much gifts left to wrap, so I don't mind the extra time I would have to spend.
@@querela92 Yep! And the trick is washi tape. Easy to remove, and does not ruin the paper like sticky tape. Of course, shinier/thicker paper will get ruined at the folds anyway... but some paper types you can totally reuse. That's why I love boxes tbh! They just keep going around in the family and I refill them every year :)
we've got Christmas in about 2 months..... ......im wrapping all my presents like this now so I actually started wrapping in June, hopefully I can finish in time

I remember this one thing I had from a giftstore in Japan and it was wrapped similarly in that the folds were completely different and it was nice and I know it took a bit more paper and had just a different style of wrapping. When shopping in Japan I would stand & watch in total awe at their skill, speed & always perfect result (to the point where I purchased random things just to have them wrapped meticulously!). I have to try this next time I wrap a gift. Sadly I found this on christmas day. The measuring is exactly how I did it when I worked in a shop where I did gift wrapping and only had a limited time to do it. The technique was different, but it had to be tight like this. Absolutely love how clear you explained each step and repeated it. The card pocket is just perfect especially for birthdays! Definately saved this vid so I can look back at it.

I thought this would be great, just what I wanted. It wasn’t. Then I thought it’s not what I hoped for anyway. I’ll find a different one. Then I watched the end and saw the pocket. Now I love it. I also wrap my packages with great care. A cheap wrap and plastic bows are unacceptable to me. A lovely wrap with handmade bows created to match the gift to the recipient. This instruction is perfect. And I’m looking forward to angled ribbon designed to accent that wonderful pocket. Thank you.

Imagine.... its Christmas day, you spend hours learning and mastering how to fold like this. You wrapped every present perfectly. Then.... EVERYONE STARTS VIOLENTLY TEARING THE PAPET YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON! Finally, after all that time you spend wrapping and choosing the perfect gift for each person, they don't even like the gift you got them.
This video is beautifully made and presented targeting a wide range of audience, young and old, english as a second language people, perhaps SEN kids ect so for me, this has to be one of the best video I have seen. I have been looking everywhere to find the best tutorial of this gift wrapping technique, and I'd say this is the best one I have ever seen. Now that I know My Cherokee/Ojibwe heritage, I also say prayers while I fold paper, and wrap each gift!

I've watched a TON of gift wrapping videos and read articles on the Japan Wrapping Technique and have never been able to make sense of it even if I somewhat succeeded in doing it! The explanations of how to make sure you have enough paper and how to lay the gift down before beginning helps SO much! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
My mother in her 80’s now wrapped every gift herself at Christmas 9 great grandchildren 7 grandchildren 2 children. Plus friends and family. It was so important that each gift was special wrapped to perfection. Receiving these made it so special. If she would have seen this she would have been wrapping in this style.
This was extremely instructional, I find it typical to be unsure of what is happening when watching origami or things of that nature, but it was very clear as to what each step was

I agree too, but would prefer to see the short clip at the beginning (as long as you provide an explanation that the slower and clearer directions will follow). I almost stopped watching because the instrux seemed so long and complex, but if you could first see it being done easily, it would make a difference!
I watched the video at 2x speed and still had to skip forward several times.
The sad thing is even after living in Japan for 12 years and seen it done countless times in stores, I still could not get the knack of this on my own, and never found anyone who could show and explain it as well as you have. You've done terrific with this vid.

Excellent demonstration and instruction. I like that you make sure to show the fold, repetition is key of teaching, after you make it so it is very easy too see what you are doing. Viewer has less need to rewind the video. The result is perfect too.
Having lived in Japan for a while, I marveled at the beautiful wrapping technique used even in the smallest of shops. It made me feel very special. I saved a couple of the packages, but this is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen to teach me the steps. Thank you so much for this instruction!
Beautiful instructions! You didn't push ahead, you made sure we understood each fold and direction of the angle before moving on (this is how to lose math students, pushing onward without them getting each step), and ending up with a lovely, wrapped with love present. Our mom was from Japan. She could do some amazing folds with paper and turn a present into A PRESENT! LOL, no one wanted to touch them for a while and were so gingerly in amazement while deconstructing each little step :) Thank you!!!
I just realized how good Japanese people are with maintaining things and how they try not to waste a lot. It’s so fascinating. Compared to how I wrap which always ends up with like hundreds of scraps and ripped tape. I love this technique a lot more. Thanks for this vid 👏

These instructions are simply FANTASTIC. I'm very grateful for the multiple camera angles, clear and concise instructions, as well as a friendly voice over, intro, and outro (conclusion.) ^_^ I cannot WAIT to give this a try!! Fun fact: I was the designated expert family gift-wrapper for most of my life (age 10 to age 33-ish) and as such, I've always been on the lookout for fun, unique ways of gift-wrapping. This video combines my two interests of origami AND gift wrapping -- and it tickles my OCD for 4-corner neatness -- so this truly, truly looks a treat to execute! Though it MAY waste a little paper, it shows how the gift-giver REALLY CARES about how he/she wraps the present (s) which they are giving. 😍 Some or maybe even most people don't even CARE about how the "wrapping" looks. This is a wonderful video which shows how the gift-giver really actually CARES about how a present looks when the recipient receieves the present. To me, it shows how the "giver" is thinking MORE about their friends/family members by wrapping the gift very nicely! Great video - keep up the great "wrapping instructions" which, as I said before, show how the "giver" really actually cares about the present, presentation, and, recipient!!! I want to wrap my gifts like this from now on. Very "informative" video to me!!! Thanks, again.
My mother used to wrap presents like this. I haven't seen anyone else do this, it's been years since I've seen this done. Thank you for the excellent instructions and the memories this triggered. I'll be attempting this today. 😊. I've now subscribed!

I did it with a box that was 14" x 20", so it was difficult keeping the wrapping paper from crinkling, but it came out great. Thanks for the step by step. I love this method.

This is so intricate. Then I read a comment about what detailed wrapping means in Japan and I think that is so sweet. I was so suprised by the card slot at the end. My friends and I usually wrap each other's gifts with layers of duck tape, seran wrap, secret notes, and paper to show how much we care (haha, it's all with fun and love, I promise) about each other, so now I want to add this cute method. Even for my normal wrapping.❤ Thank you, ma'am!🎄
I kind of have to agree that this is unnecessarily complicated, but I do very much appreciate the culture behind it. I’d be very impressed and honored if I received a present that way. I’m not going to wrap presents this way, but I can appreciate that this is a legitimate way of doing it. :)

I'm so confused on why people are saying it's a waste of paper? In the video she's using the *exact* amount she needs. In the U.S., we waste even more by trying to overcompensate in fear of running short, end up folding it in or cutting off the excess and end up with a bunch of unusable, useless strips that end up trashed.

@@43Rhein10 Maybe you're more efficient with paper, but most people aren't. They don't usually use the extra pieces unless they actually have gifts small enough to use em. And if they don't, well that extra paper goes to the trash.

This is wonderful - so creative and 'arty'. Here in the U.S. we just stuff things into a bag, throw a piece of tissue paper on top, and call it a present. In Japan they take time and creativity to show how much they care for the person who is receiving the gift.

I dont rlly understand ppl saying its a waste of paper or time bc if u wrap this way u can reuse the paper again and again, also like u said in the video once u get used to it u can do it a lot faster u were obviously going slow to demonstrate which i super appreciated!! Wow...looks neat...and when done properly the recipient will know the giver really took special time to wrap the gift. And needs less adhesive tape too. That's so lit!
I love this! I always, by default, buy bags and tissue paper because of my horrible wrapping jobs. I have a few gifts ready for this Christmas and tried this out, it took a few tries but I can now do it without holding flaps down with tape and just use the one piece at the end. For those that are salty about this, you don’t have to do it. In a lot of cultures and even just family values, presentation matters just as much as the gift and the best thing about this method is that it all comes out in one piece! Reduce reuse recycle (my family’s frugal, come at me) thank you for this tutorial!! :)
I think japan teach us how to reuse wrapping paper once we received one..as it is not cut off..as we open the wrapping paper..it is actually one piece

If you are careful, you can almost always reuse the wrapping paper. You have to be careful with the tape/unwrapping. Rewrapping requires that the next item is mostly the same size. It seems like it requires a box shape, too.
The demonstrated way is really ingenious, and I have to try it out.
I.. always use one piece unless the box is larger than the paper I have.
Honestly... this is much more complicated than what my mom taught me and uses an extra length of paper, which means more waste..

But I think my wrapping method is a similar waste of paper than this one. So I might try it out. I don't have much gifts left to wrap, so I don't mind the extra time I would have to spend.
@@querela92 Yep! And the trick is washi tape. Easy to remove, and does not ruin the paper like sticky tape. Of course, shinier/thicker paper will get ruined at the folds anyway... but some paper types you can totally reuse. That's why I love boxes tbh! They just keep going around in the family and I refill them every year :)

Awww yassss~ ! That's me chrissy sorted! Ive been looking for something similar to this for ages. I remember this one thing I had from a giftstore in Japan and it was wrapped similarly in that the folds were completely different and it was nice and I know it took a bit more paper and had just a different style of wrapping. I loved it but could never replicate it. So the measurements and the different angles were so incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much :D Something I've wanted to learn for 12yrs. When shopping in Japan I would stand & watch in total awe at their skill, speed & always perfect result (to the point where I purchased random things just to have them wrapped meticulously!). I wrap my gifts with perfection also. My whole family raves about my giftwrap skills. For me it is like therapy. I love doing it and making it exactly perfect and beautiful.

I have to try this next time I wrap a gift. Sadly I found this on christmas day. The measuring is exactly how I did it when I worked in a shop where I did gift wrapping and only had a limited time to do it. The technique was different, but it had to be tight like this. Absolutely love how clear you explained each step and repeated it. The card pocket is just perfect especially for birthdays! Definately saved this vid so I can look back at it.

Then I watched the end and saw the pocket. Now I love it.
I also wrap my packages with great care. A cheap wrap and plastic bows are unacceptable to me. A lovely wrap with handmade bows created to match the gift to the recipient. This instruction is perfect. And I’m looking forward to angled ribbon designed to accent that wonderful pocket. Thank you.

I have been looking everywhere to find the best tutorial of this gift wrapping technique, and I'd say this is the best one I have ever seen. Thank you for adding the way how to get the exact measurements. I have been practicing this technique using newspapers and pattern papers. I'm actually trying to wrap items in less than a minute
