People don't care how much materials cost or how much time you invested and how much money you would wanna get hourly. They care about the product, what it looks like and if it's quality. It's up to the customer to decide if they like it. It can be a thousand dollar table but someone might as well buy something else that was 20 dollars and be just as happy. Trying to impress a customer by saying how much you spent is gonna do nothing but deter said customer from your product.
People are treating this like it’s an IKEA coffee table you can find anywhere. In the UK on BBC1 there is this tv show thats very similar to what you do.. its called: Money for Nothing. Presenter Sarah Moore goes to places like tips/dumps and takes things people are throwing away and she has a team of people who upcycle the stuff into something awesome like a door into a table etc. Your videos remind me so much of that show!
@Ms. Unknown I wouldn't buy that ugly table. Just cause something is handmade doesn't make it a piece of art. Being cheap and making wise decisions on how to spend your money are 2 different things. This table will not appreciate in value. But since you have all the money in the world, he is selling it so you can purchase it.
Some people don't think that High Quality can last long compared to cheap ones all they see is their purpose not the reliability and lifespan of that product
Man, sometimes I just want a nice coffee table that isn’t covered in triangles. But hey, whatever people will pay for. I mean, you can get a coffee table for $200, $2,000 or $20,000. It’s still a coffee table I guess
As someone who bought a huge $1,300 coffee table (was 1,500) out of a tree stomp with Abraham Lincoln's face burned onto it with glass on it as well to protect the art. This is much less cool and I would haggle you the same way and ask for 1k flat and that's extremely generous. That's only because I saw the work being put into it else I would price around $800. You can't price things so high because of labor you chose to do and when I've never heard of your work elsewhere.
the haircuts look cool, though. that table sucks. it's derivative, overly complicated, unnecesaryly fragile. and he even wants to make 90 dollars an hour for building this crap
It’s a fair price given the skills that you need, the machines that you used and the time that you spent on acquiring the skills, and making it. There’s no need to justify the price as it’s the self worth that matters. How much you think you are worth per hour and the worth of the product! Awesome table which I wish I could get it but it’s just a bit far for me! 🇸🇬 😊
I'd pay a solid 1750-1800 for it if I had the cash. Good looking piece for a living room but idk about 2k for it I understand how much time you put but the same look and a possibly more sturdy way can be achieved way faster by grooving out little divets in a big piece of nice walnut or dark oak to contrast the white and fill the gaps with the white epoxy.
I don't see how he can spend 18 hours actively working on this unless he learned how to use CAD software doing it and/or watched the epoxy dry to make sure it didn't grow legs and bolt out the door
people make art and sell it at a price they think people will pay. While i may disagree with the price, I do not: -tell them that their art is worth less that what they are selling it as -beg them to sell it to me for a lesser price. I do: -keep scrolling after appriciating the art -buy a less ornate table for $50 off of amazon, and if i really want to, decorate it myself.

But this concept doesn't work with morleykert because of his "self-assumed" personal hourly salary, cost of materials and instruments, and even rent that he adds as an expense, which should start decreasing after period of time because it's is essentially asking his buyers to pay for every mistake, wasted time, learning experience, and inconsistency he has made in the past.
after some point, he can't keep charging people for renting or buying a machine or charge them for the roof over it, that's an added fee that someone else can use to undercut you after finding a cheaper way to do it.
These guarantees should only be given if he offers something that NO ONE other than himself can offer, because otherwise it's a loss he's passing onto his buyer who could have probably saved money and value through a different seller with the SAME skills, better time management and efficiency. you understand what i'm saying? if someone can make this exact table for a price of $100 and make a profit off it, that's the price, no matter what morleykert tries to say. people aren't being cheap, it just means the seller needs to adapt.
tldr: the cost of your services is determined retroactively, as in backwards. quality is subjective. however, having to convince someone of the quality of something that noone agrees on is a bad start, or a genius marketing move.
It's also a custom one-off. Those will be always cheaper. Because there is no market for them. Like with custom shoes, they're not official so how do you know what you need to pay for them.
Yeah so is a one off cat poo on my lawn, and for that reason I'm out
it doesn't matter it's a one-off, the quality of materials and the design of the table doesn't warrant the price. It's an extremely simple table.
Rose clearly just clout chasing and trolling a bit. If you go on his channel, there’s only one video with an ad on it.
400 to 700 I think it's a good range.
The material cost almost 300.. bro you got no idea what tables of good quality costs... you must've bought everything from Ikea or something
@@real_smilegamez you are correct. But I live in Asia. IKEA stuff consider a Luxury item. Here mostly are made in china products. So yeah. But what's so expensive about the table he made? That the material cost 300? All I see is just resin , block of triangle wood. And than craftsman ship.
Also if the material is 300 than if wanna charge time and labour. I think 1k is a reasonable price. And would also be more affordable too on the more expensive side. If it's 2k than only some rich dude only be able to afford. That's how I see it.
@@calvinyip364 1k would make sense if he made multiple.. but this one is a custom madd one that there is only one.. besides, people tend to overprice so you can negotiate it down
@@real_smilegamez He spent like 2 hours on the table max (18 hours was bs and probably drying time) materials only costed 200 and its a very basic design and also this guy uses shitty quality wood usually so at max 700$
As a person who crafts stuff myself, I say this with the utmost respect, this video didn't need to be made. You are a craftsman. You sell it for what you think it is worth. No explanation is needed. On a side note, that is a very beautiful table you made.
That's nice thing about working in Europe instead of the US, you have a ton of spare time. If I want a a cool table I can just make one myself.
Have you ever thought about putting a QR code on your project with a link to the video of it being made? I feel like it would lend some extra value to make a visual of the creation process more accessible 👍 Great work!
Yo love it! Love the table, love the explanation, love the pricing, love that you’re willing to negotiate!
Yeah absolutely. Some people would be like, take the price or leave it, but this guy recognizes that sometimes you can't always get what you want and is willing to consider tradeoffs

This is an amazing table. And a great rundown of why it costs what it does.... People have no idea of what is involved for the most part....
1200$ for 18 hours of work is not an excellent rundown of why it costs what it does. My Amish table made from repourpesed bourbon barrel staves cost $ 500 less lmfao.
Tool depreciation. I am using that line the next time I go in for a raise.
LOL, I wish.
I am a mechanic I use tools all the time. The most part of buying tools is for fun and to make my life easier. I beat the he'll out of my tools and still there are like new. I can use a ratchet that cost me 30 buck but I want the $250 milwaukee cordless ratchet, that's on me not on the costumer 😂. Is not the costumer fault these people don't know how to use tools is pathetic.

You should not ask costumers to buy by explaining overhead or your wage. You should create something that your target costumers want to buy for the price you sell it as. People when faced with exactly that: “ItS tOo eXpEnSiVe”

@@melody3741 as much as I love his table, the logic behind this video is VERY flawed and it will keep you from expanding a hobby into anything bigger than a small, struggling, inconsistent side business.

tldr: the cost of your services is determined retroactively, as in backwards. quality is subjective. however, having to convince someone of the quality of something that noone agrees on is a bad start, or a genius marketing move

Just leaving a comment to say this is so gorgeous. I absolutely love it. ❤️
Thanks for teaching what goes into pricing custom work! It gave me and idea (along with other resources) how much my mom should price her art.
not this much that's for sure
Also just because you have put expensive materials in it and the time and effort doesn't mean someone's gonna just buy it.
The price is obviously not for everyone but it’s for the people who want to spend a good amount on a custom table and understand/accept the price. I would personally not buy this but I could completely understand why someone (who can afford it) would.
Worth every dollar you’re asking for 🙌
In the UK on BBC1 there is this tv show thats very similar to what you do.. its called: Money for Nothing.

It’s worth over 300$ based on resin cost alone, but idk about 2k, I’d say like 650-900$
Man, sometimes I just want a nice coffee table that isn’t covered in triangles. But hey, whatever people will pay for.
I mean, you can get a coffee table for $200, $2,000 or $20,000. It’s still a coffee table I guess
This guy is living is his head
Tool depreciation XD. I love it
$150 is the maximum price I would ever pay for a coffee table. A local carpenter doesn't have such tantrums 😂😂
This makes way more sense than the UA-cam barbers charging $300 for a 20 minute haircut!
the haircuts look cool, though. that table sucks. it's derivative, overly complicated, unnecesaryly fragile. and he even wants to make 90 dollars an hour for building this crap
Looks beautiful, my father would probably buy it when he builds his new house in a few years, looks gorgeous though, congrats.
Did he realize no one is paying 2k for a table so he said make an offer
methinks yes
Who told this man to charge himself 90$ for an hour?
I don't see how he can spend 18 hours actively working on this unless he learned how to use CAD software doing it and/or watched the epoxy dry to make sure it didn't grow legs and bolt out the door
@@justalonelypoteto 💀💀. Half of the video was just an exaggeration. 18 hours might be a cap to justify the price tag

people make art and sell it at a price they think people will pay. While i may disagree with the price, I do not:
-tell them that their art is worth less that what they are selling it as
-beg them to sell it to me for a lesser price.
I do:
-keep scrolling after appriciating the art
-buy a less ornate table for $50 off of amazon, and if i really want to, decorate it myself.
