    You showed that you can make a butter knife razor sharp, but you didn't show us/explain if a knife can get too sharp.

    I would love to see you turn this into a series. Have people submit things for you to sharpen to see if you can shave with it. Here are some ideas just in case you consider this idea.
    1. bastard file
    2. pruning sheer blade,
    3. shovel

      Thanks for providing this information. Danny at DeepSouthHomestead talked about not buying a pocket knife that had a stainless steel blade because it does not sharpen well and if you did get it sharpen, it would not hold an edge. Of course, I didn't know this when I purchased a few knives, so I really need to do some research. I need to be staying under $50.00 but don't really know what is available worth having in that price range.

    • @CanItAlready
      @CanItAlready 8 років тому +6

      There are many different kinds of stainless steels. Many modern stainless steels hold an edge just fine. Stick with quality brands and you'll get good steels with good heat treatment.

      Nothing lol. People make their knives way sharper than this using similar sharpeners at lower angles. Some people use a very high grit to polish the edge to a mirror finish using 2500-30000 grit compounds on a strop. He is using 1000 grit to finish his.

      1000 grit cuts hand hair near skin but is far from comfortable face shave. #1000 is the starting point for my shaving knives and after #13000 I move on to stropping to give the final touch.
      A great shaving knive cuts a hair if you drop one over it, just by the weight of the hair. Any knife for shaving should at least cut a hair that is held at one end only.

    • @0num4
      @0num4 8 років тому +4

      Technically speaking, it's a "table knife", since it has only mild serration and no refined edge. A "butter knife' is completely dull and smooth, and often has a point near to that of a very shallow clip-point.
      It doesn't actually matter, of course. Colloquially, much of America calls it a butter knife and we all know exactly what we mean. Just like a Back Saw to us is a Tenon Saw to a Brit.
      Vernacular.

      To be fair, they're called butter knives for a reason.
      If they were sharp, they'd screw up the butter container (some people put the butter in a plastic thing) or wrapper and cut the crumbs off of toast, making a mess.

    I don't know.... I absolutely love your videos, the production quality is superb and the content is very good. I really enjoy listening to you, whether it be talking about something practical or something more personal. I know that you've talked about it before, but I just can't do the titles anymore. I've worked with the UA-cam algorithms before and I completely understand why you title your videos the way that you do. I'm in no place to say anything for anybody but myself; you provide your content at little to no charge. As far as I go though, watching your videos is actually destroying my UA-cam homepage. Your videos run so well through the algorithms, that if I watch even one of your videos it floods my recommended feed for the next two weeks. As someone who enjoys using that feed to find new content, it's a bit disincentive for me. Sometimes, I feel that the content is so intensely geared towards acquiring new viewers that there isn't any long-term satisfaction from the channel. Think in terms of where many large churches, particularly evangelical tend to go: Such a great focus is put onto acquiring new members into the church, that everything becomes geared towards teaching and discipling new believers that oftentimes there isn't an opportunity for people to grow in their faith beyond the beginning. That's not to say that your channel is at all structured similar to the church, but I'm somewhat afraid that your channel might deal with something similar. I'm very happy that you've been able to create something that works through UA-cam, through which you can support your family and your lifestyle. Many people take this sort of thing for granted. I'm partly afraid for your channel though, that in working so hard to acquire new views and subscribers (which in turn, does generate more income and exposure), that you won't be able to build a solid, community foundation for your viewer base. I've worked and talked with a lot of people who have run UA-cam channels, some which have done very well, that fail to do this. As a result, when something drastic happens that changes what the content is or how it's produced, or if the content creator goes through personal trouble, the viewer base very quickly leaves. It's possible that I'm wrong; maybe you do have a thriving community that I just don't see under everything else, but I hope that this all finds you well and that I don't come across as overly critical without cause. Anyway though, I really do enjoy watching your videos and I hope that all goes well.
