In Sweden we don’t need to register for voting. If you have citizenship or been living in Sweden for more than three years (I think) you get a voting-card home by post.
This is awesome. Nevada in the US sends all voters post voter ballots and I love it. No pressure to vote in person and you can take your time learning about the candidates while voting.
You need ID to vote which I lack. I don't drink alcohol and can't drive and never been abroad. My council is awful and insist everything is done over the phone. I'm hard of hearing so being on a phone is difficult enough. But the council operatives frequently huff and sigh on the phone when I ask them to speak slower. They so often mumble as well. They have a horrible attitude like I lack ID just for the sake of inconveniencing then. But putting in that idiotic ID rule the gov basically told me they don't want me voting. Considering how all politicians are evil, quite happy to oblige! This country has gone to the dogs and I'm not dancing around pretending we're in a democracy anymore. I'm beyond frustrated with our two party system.
End of March, I'm on facebook and see that the British Consult in Germany had changed their banner picture. Brits who had moved away from England for longer than 15 years could now register to vote if they had previously done so prior to leaving. That was me. Saw it, got it sorted within the afternoon. The election was then called at some point toward the end of May (?). It was like the stars had aligned. Postal vote arrived today. Let's see whether the German PO ruins its return journey...
Important! If your postal vote does not arrive contact the Electoral Registration Department of your local council, they can reissue a postal ballot up until 5pm on polling day. You will have to collect it, don’t leave it too late. Also if you forget to post your ballot paper a friend or family member can take it to the polling station if you cannot take it yourself, your vote will still be counted. You can apply for a proxy vote up until 5pm on polling day, if you intend to vote in person but then cannot for health reasons. Send your proxy to the polling station ask for the Presiding Officer and explain they will sort it out for you. Voting really is important!
Thank you for this. Don't think that this election is a done deal because the polls say it is. We all need to vote to have a voice. Remember for those in the UK the consultation on major changes to PIP is still going on despite the election. Send in your comments on PIP ASAP.
There are elections happening in the US right now. I don't like people coming to the door, but it was a good reminder, and I'm going to early vote tomorrow morning at my town hall.
Thank you for keeping the uk informed 👑🌟🌻
Got to do my bit! 💪🏻

As a US viewer, there’s something iconic about the UK election being on July 4th lol
😆
It made me chuckle I must admit!

Such a good idea! I hope we move to such a system!
A much better system!

Thank you I didn’t realise I have just registered now 😊

Thanks for this information!
My housemate applied for a postal vote last election and it didn't arrive. If at all possible try to vote in person 💜💜
