Completely agree Margo. I certainly don't think of my art collection as a design choice. I collect pieces of art that i like on their own not for how they will match the rest of the decor.
Totally agree. I buy art that speaks to me not because it goes with my curtains or is the right size for this space. I like to rotate pieces into different rooms so I see them more or less often and in different light.
Love this comment. As a painter I feel like my art would just get lost on the larger retail sites. I'm very much trying to figure out how to strategically get my work out there and in front of the right audience. I do think this video is super informative and gives me something to think about from the artist's perspective.
Sometimes, art just finds you. I once pulled over seeing a painting on the side of the road at a yard sale. It happened to match perfectly what i was wearing that day. It's been hanging in my bathroom ever since. I love looking at it every day!
Lisa, great info on WHERE to find art! Now, could you please do another video on how to CHOOSE art. For example, how to choose the type of art (painting, print, sculpture, etc) as well as the artistic style and subject matter for various styles of rooms to coordinate with or complement them. Also, how to choose the right sized art for a wall or room (scale), and maybe how to choose art pieces to group together for visual impact. Thanks, Lisa! You are awesome!
Hey Deborah! Yes, more on art is coming, but the deep dives will be in the club live chats, and special modules. Send your email to www.lisaholtdesign.com and you'll be in the loop! ;)
Buy what you love -something that speaks to you. I rarely buy art impulsively. I buy it when I see it, and a few days later I still can’t get it out of my head. Then you know it’s for you!
@@juliebrown512 Agreed! Resist impulse buys and only have artwork you love. If you truly love all your art but it doesn’t “fit” in your space... then it’s likely the space isn’t working with your style.

Thanks for remembering us custom framers! Online shopping is great for a lot of things, but for those special pieces, nothing beats working with a dedicated professional - and accurate reference samples! A good framer can help you highlight AND preserve your art and heirlooms. Many people think custom framing is expensive, but when you consider how long something you love will be hanging in your home, it’s truly a small investment for treasured pieces and makes such an impact!
I agree. I’ve done some remodelling and have to get some things reframed. It’s shocking how much better the custom framed pieces stood up compared to those I got done on the cheap at Michaels.
Years ago I worked in a frame shop and while there learned about how to safely prepare art for the damp & steamy environments of the kitchen or bathroom. Very important. Going to a local frame shop and asking an experienced framer to help is important for protecting your art from moisture damage. Thanks for all the great info, Lisa!

Thank you for mentioning using a local person when shopping for a frame! I’m sure there are many people near me that live off their art business. I should consider them more instead of shopping online.
I would imagine the cost of shipping to and from the online frame places is really prohibitive. I would much rather spend a little more at my frame shop. I wish the video explained more about the "why" of the various styles/colors/sizes, but first of all, why one would choose a certain subject, etc for specific spaces.

Lisa, this is great! I've purchased art from Artfinder, Saatchi, and Minted. I love Artfinder, because I love oil paintings. I have an art lamp over a couple, which makes them even more beautiful. I have a fantastic frame shop nearby. The owner is an artist with a great eye and reasonable. I'm so happy I found your channel. Thank you!
See what you started!?! I went to Minted and found a print that would look fabulous (I hope) in my aqua living room. My husband doesn't know that that's our anniversary present! ;-) I can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks!

Oh, yes! Those are the very best! I actually stumbled on a set of three Gilded rococo once years ago at a garage sale… Could not believe that no one has snatched them up!🥳😍🥰
I would love to hear how you matte artwork; really large versus smaller frames. I'm sure there are ways to make the artwork really stand out when it's matted properly! Great videos!

I've always loved my Graciela Rodo Boulanger print called Promenade de Trois. It hung in my daddy's office and represented my two sisters and me. Now it's in my powder room. Last week while browsing at the local human society thrift store, I found ANOTHER GRB print! I hung it above my granddaddy's roll top desk, where I do most of my written work and planning!

I love the links to the various art resources - will check them out - and I Thank you for the advise to reframe present art. I have a pile of inherited oil paintings, most of which are perfectly suitable to my style, but they look dingy, old (19th century?!) and worn framed as they are. I guess reframing a few at a time would give them a new lease of life.

Oh Boy, have you opened a can! Now that we know where to go, can you tell us what to do when we get there? Most often I select art by color just to fill a void space on the wall; I’m lost on how to best choose between genre, thick or thin frame, etc. Would you consider teaching us how to select based on our room style?

Great tips! Etsy is also a great place to look for original art. There are some great artists on there! I just discovered Museum Quality Art and BFF Print Shop and they specialize in digital prints of vintage art from many years ago. Great for any vintage lover!
Murals from Mural Source are the best. Just amazing detail and quality of printing. Art.com is great if you need a large item on canvas. Just bought a seascape for my beach cottage. Gorgeous and was able to get a 40”x 60”. Huge wall and nothing was big enough until I found Art.com.

That was awesome! Thanks for this video. Nowadays, it's wonderful that you can purchase art you love directly from the artists themselves. Many have their own shops, and custom art is just a DM away. I used to have art on Saatchi before I started my own shop. Support working artists!

Ooh, I missed this one! It’s super helpful! 😀 Have you thought of doing a video about decorative items? I can never figure out what to put on bookshelves or console tables. Thanks, Lisa! ❤️
WOW... all the artwork in this video is gorgeous! I have heard of Minted, IKEA, Restoration Hardware, and West Elm, but I never heard of the other fantastic places you mentioned! I can’t wait to check them out! Your videos are awesome.. I learn so much and refer to them often 😊

Thanks Lisa Great video as usual I agree with reframing when redecorating, but sometimes I can get away with repainting, dry brushing or gilding an old frame and /or new mat,
Oooh Candace!!! 😍 I totally get that - it allllll depends on your project and what you're going for! 💕👍🏻 So glad I could spill some secrets about art - thanks for watching!! 😉🧡
This was an excellent video, thanks. Reframing my artwork- what a revelation! Too funny. Sitting here looking at my main painting with a wood frame and a linen insert going "what is wrong???". You nailed it. The painting is still relevant but the framing is bringing down the whole room.
I hope you are planning to discuss questions about HOW to hang art on walls. I am so afraid of actually finding studs and putting nails in the walls, and getting the items level and correctly grouped, that I have spent most of my life with blank walls.
This has been in my watch later list, and I clicked on it tonight. I was so surprised when I heard you mention Skyframe because I just got fired from working there last Monday 😭😅
Hi, I've gotten great original vintage paintings in gold gilt frames from Ebay. I love harbor boat scenes and l Hudson River paintings as I live on the lake. Also have american indian collection with California landscapes. I love art to decorate with!
Useful video. In our house, framing eats up the arts budget. In a future video, it would be nice to see options for how to change art around since we have so many pieces but don't want to put too many holes in the wall. Usually we just place it on something even though it's not quite right.
OH MY! love all this watching again..... minted is great also 1st dibs as well as art.com lumas as well great video keep up the great work i need this in my life!......hugs :)

This was a very good video on where to find art, it would be helpful if you could make a video on how to actually select pieces that go with your decor and style!
I have some originals, some framed prints, and some color plates from old books that I framed. I also really like some of the original artists on Ballard Design who have fine art giclee reproductions on stretched canvas that are hand embellished with a knife gel finish to mimic the texture of the original.
Thank you for the video, I'm enlarging my kitchen and have this large wall at the end that is the first thing you see when you walk in, a long that wall into the family room/great room I have two canvas paintings, that took me forever to find, MURALS, Minted have the most beautiful ones I've ever seen and will have a hard time choosing one. 😁
Hi Lisa, I’ve always wanted to ask... How can I get the eyeballs of hot interior designers to view my paintings and how would they preferred to be approached? (Sales-wise) My commission business is growing but do you prefer ordering off line compared to commissioning a piece? Your content really grabbed my attention. I also have a collection of vintage art that I’ve been selling via my Etsy shop. Love all your tips. So glad That I found you.
Karen!! 💚 Try to get into a showroom near you!!!! 🤩💙 That's the best route to get your art to designers!!! 💕 Sounds like you're well on your way - thank you for this super sweet comment!! 🥰🥰
I'm going to DYI art .I find it's very ridiculously expensive. I'm going to also download some favorite family pictures in classic black and white. Also I'm going to paint my own paintings.

Hey Lisa! Loving your videos and I just subscribed to the Design Club yay! 2 questions until then: 1. Where would you display art in a tiny apartment? Every room? Just the living room? 2. Where would you display a portrait? Frame/no frame? I received one asa a gift (my portrait) by an artist in the family and although I love it I am a bit self conscious about displaying it :) Thank you so much!
Hi Irene! Thanks so much for your kind comments, and for joining the channel! And what good questions you have! I always suggest portraits or very personal items should be hung in what I call the private areas, bedrooms bathrooms and personal offices. If you’re in a really small place, I would limit a ton of art to maybe the public room with one or two pieces, and then your portrait in the bedroom.👍🏻🙌🏻

OMG literally binging your channel🙏You have great style & a fantastic ability to connect with people❣️
So informative! Thank you for this. Plus I love your direct communication style. Sooo many videos beat around the bush which I find quite annoying.
Here, here! I love her direct style too!
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m a get it done babe...😉
Emily!!! I love this!! 🙌🏻💕 Decorating your home with art that has a special meaning makes it feel so personal - and it looks fabulous too!! 👏🏻💚 Thank you for sharing your art selection process, and hope your week is off to a fabulous start! 🤩💙
Great content! I’ll be watching it over again and checking out all the resources. Thank you so much
Yes, there's a number of vendors that ship globally, you'll love 'em!

Yayy welcome to the channel Constance!!! I am so glad you found me!!! 🤗💗
Like you were reading my mind/ wall mural completely done this weekend? half done already…. I love the look worth taking a window out for this stone wall effect in the big room/ Entrance looks 300 times better and it’s simple in the look/ finding an antique cabinet to hold all my hats & bags of Fluevog shoes was everything to complete the look fresh paint helped too/ thanks again I have had six months in which to transform my living space/ I have Aug & Sept left to complete tasks I’ve waited years to do. It’s like everyday I have decorating orgasms picking tile that’s porcelain but looks like marble/ or the new gas stove/ & gas fireplace/ new fridge too…. it’s all too much frickin fun for one girl to have 💃🏼 next week I’m covering the front of the house in hardyboard wish me luck
Katarina!!! YES!!! I am so glad you got some good advice from this!!! 🤗 I definitely will be covering more art resources/tips + tricks in the Dezign Club so make sure you are signed up for it before it launches!!! The Club will be PACKED with help for you for every project.. Plus, you get to hang out with me and ask me questions directly… how groovy is that!!! 😎🤣 YAY sign up here www.lisaholt.com/thedezignclub !!!! 💗💗💗
Hey Suzy! Yes, these deep dives will cover in the club, so make sure you’re signed up, we’ll have more time to go into all those crazy important details! Sign up at www.lisaholtdesig.com if u haven’t already....
Great tips! Etsy is also a great place to look for original art. There are some great artists on there! I just discovered Museum Quality Art and BFF Print Shop and they specialize in digital prints of vintage art from many years ago. Great for any vintage lover!
Oh, thanks SO much for sharing these, I’ll include them for the V2!
Yes, it's true! Great comment! Be sure to send your email to www.lisaholtdesign.com, and I’ll add you to my Design Club list we’re launching soon, where we’ll livestream Q&A’s, do deep dives, feature B&A’s and give lots of pro tips all about design, you’ll LUV it!
That was awesome! Thanks for this video. Nowadays, it's wonderful that you can purchase art you love directly from the artists themselves. Many have their own shops, and custom art is just a DM away. I used to have art on Saatchi before I started my own shop. Support working artists!
Could NOT agree more Rad!!! 🥰👏🏻 Supporting artists is SO important and such a wonderful way to get unique pieces for your home!! 🤩 Talk about a win win!! 💜 Great point about reaching out on social media - love hearing from artists in the comments!! Thanks for watching, and thank you SO much for supporting my channel!! 💚😘
Ooh, I missed this one! It’s super helpful! 😀 Have you thought of doing a video about decorative items? I can never figure out what to put on bookshelves or console tables. Thanks, Lisa! ❤️
Books and any things you love!
WOW... all the artwork in this video is gorgeous! I have heard of Minted, IKEA, Restoration Hardware, and West Elm, but I never heard of the other fantastic places you mentioned! I can’t wait to check them out! Your videos are awesome.. I learn so much and refer to them often 😊
Tina, you’re so kind! ❤️
Where have YOU been my whole life! I love your channel! Such practical ideas and great resources. I'm hooked!
So glad I know I've helped! Thank you so much for joining us! Why don't you join my Design Club we’re launching soon, where we’ll livestream Q&A’s, deep dive and give lots of pro tips all about design, just go to www.lisaholtdesign.com and sign up.
@@LisaHoltDesign Already signed up! ;)
The wall murals are so cool. Love these tips!
Honestly, I’m trying to find a place for one right now!👍🏻
Thanks Lisa
Great video as usual
I agree with reframing when redecorating, but sometimes I can get away with repainting, dry brushing or gilding an old frame and /or new mat,
Oooh Candace!!! 😍 I totally get that - it allllll depends on your project and what you're going for! 💕👍🏻 So glad I could spill some secrets about art - thanks for watching!! 😉🧡
I’ll be watching this vid several more times throughout next yr. You offer so many resources ♥️♥️♥️
I'm so glad I know I can help🤩🤩
This was an excellent video, thanks. Reframing my artwork- what a revelation! Too funny. Sitting here looking at my main painting with a wood frame and a linen insert going "what is wrong???". You nailed it. The painting is still relevant but the framing is bringing down the whole room.
Exactly! That’s what I always say, the piece still has power, but it needs to be put into the new context! 🙌🏻
I hope you are planning to discuss questions about HOW to hang art on walls. I am so afraid of actually finding studs and putting nails in the walls, and getting the items level and correctly grouped, that I have spent most of my life with blank walls.
Great request! I’ll add this to the list of videos to come!
I loved the online art "galleries", I will check them out 😉👍.
WhooHoo! So glad to know I’ve helped! It’s so much fun answering peoples’ questions!
This has been in my watch later list, and I clicked on it tonight. I was so surprised when I heard you mention Skyframe because I just got fired from working there last Monday 😭😅
Another FANTASTIC video!!! You have taught me sooooo much! Can’t wait for your upcoming course! Thanks!!!!!!
Yay!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! There's LOTS more fun stuff coming!
Just what I’ve been wanting to watch!!!!! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!
HI Jodie! Hope this helped, and if I didn't hit your exact questions, be sure to email me at hello@lisaholt.com
Hi, I've gotten great original vintage paintings in gold gilt frames from Ebay. I love harbor boat scenes and l Hudson River paintings as I live on the lake. Also have american indian collection with California landscapes. I love art to decorate with!
Hey Iris! What a great suggestion!!! Thanks so much for being a part of the channel!👍🏻🥰
Useful video. In our house, framing eats up the arts budget. In a future video, it would be nice to see options for how to change art around since we have so many pieces but don't want to put too many holes in the wall. Usually we just place it on something even though it's not quite right.
Great request! I’ll add this to the list of videos to come! Thanks so much for joining us!
OH MY! love all this watching again..... minted is great also 1st dibs as well as art.com lumas as well great video keep up the great work i need this in my life!......hugs :)
Grant!! SO glad you are digging the older videos!! 🙌🏼 Crazy how much things have changed in these videos! 😆😆 Thank you so much for the suggestions on art resources!! Definitely will add these to the resources to suggest in the Dezign Club!! 😉🥰💚
Thank you very interesting I am a painter and phographer I rarely frame my work so lots of info for me here. Love your channel.
Suzan!! That's sooo cool, what kind of photographer and painter are you?! 🤩🤩 Thank you for watching and being part of this WONDERFUL community, so glad you could learn a few new tips from this!! 💜💜
@@LisaHoltDesign my paintings are abstract inspired by my experience and emotions of nature, I also do portraits which are more realistic pencil portraits with a hint of colour, I can focus on detail within a bracket of space. Thank you for asking.x directly in front of me.
WOW! Great information....can't wait to look at all those website. Thanks so much. 💜
Yay! Thanks so much for your kind comments, and thanks for joining my channel!
Thank you for the tip to re-frame a piece of art. We recently moved and a special piece is just not fitting anywhere- problem solved! Off to the framing shop I will go. 👍😁👍
Yay Anna-Lisa!!! 🤩💕 SO glad I could help! 💙 I totally get what you mean...finding a new frame should totally solve your problem!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Let me know how it goes...good luck finding that perfect piece!! 😘😘
Really helpful video, thank you! The tip for re-framing art you already own to suit a new environment is fab. Many thanks x
SO glad I know I've helped!! Thanks for joining my channel!
I'd love to know how to choose artwork for a wall to compliment another piece in the same room? I love your videos, you are fun to watch!

Love your videos, they are packed with great info. I would love to know more about how to choose the type and size of frame, what size should the matting be compared to the art? How to choose the color of the matting? I'm sorry if you've already covered this info in another video, I just recently discovered your channel.
First offf... welcome to the design family! 🙌🏻🙏🏻💕🍾🎊🎉 secondly, go to www.lisaholt.com and get signed onto my email list. Local framers are often real artists and can make great suggestions, too.
Totally Kimberly!! 🙌🏻💕 Great point- I always love to support local artists and craftsmen!!! Thanks for fabulous comment, and happy Tuesday! 🤩💙
This was a very good video on where to find art, it would be helpful if you could make a video on how to actually select pieces that go with your decor and style!
Hi Magda, and welcome! That’s coming up in a video soon, part of the Know Your Style series, you won’t want to miss it!
Some great tips Lisa, thank you. Love the repurposing idea.
Glad it was helpful!! 💛
The most helpful interior design videos! Thank you!!
You are soooo welcome!
I have some originals, some framed prints, and some color plates from old books that I framed. I also really like some of the original artists on Ballard Design who have fine art giclee reproductions on stretched canvas that are hand embellished with a knife gel finish to mimic the texture of the original.
Wow AMAZING! that sounds fantastic... !!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Let me know what you decide and how it turns out! Keep us posted!
Love watching your videos Lisa!!! Excited for this 👍
Hey Alex! Thanks so much for watching and being a part of my channel! Have you dropped your email for the club yet?
Great, so great, I will be spending my weekend running down the rabbit hole of every link you suggested. Insider secrets, thanks for sharing!
Yay! Thank you so much for joining my channel, there's LOTS more coming!!
I did buy a small original oil painting - still life for my kitchen from Saatchi.
Yes yes...very good tips.....reframing....love it......💗
Thanks for your great tips always. This is fantastic 👏👌
Hey Ted! So glad you enjoyed the video!!😍🙌
Art.com is another online resource. Thanks for your informative videos!
Karen, Thanks for the info! I'll add that to the resources!
I'm going to DYI art .I find it's very ridiculously expensive. I'm going to also download some favorite family pictures in classic black and white. Also I'm going to paint my own paintings.
You get a big thumbs up from me for highlighting awesome online stores that are NOT AMAZON. We need to stop giving JB so much of our money.
Haha, there’s LOTS of great vendors out there, stay tuned for a surprise one coming this Friday! 🤔
Art galleries usually have catalogs of giclees that are affordable and can be printed on paper or canvas.
OMG Kit that is one of my FAVORITE design hacks of all time - I actually talk about doing that in one of my videos!! 🤩💕 LOVE that you've already been taking advantage of this little hack - way to go!! 💚👏🏻
You are amazing. Thank you for the great tips on artwork.

As an independent print maker i found this really useful.
I'm glad I know I've helped! Thanks for joining us!!
Hey Lisa! Loving your videos and I just subscribed to the Design Club yay! 2 questions until then:
1. Where would you display art in a tiny apartment? Every room? Just the living room?
2. Where would you display a portrait? Frame/no frame? I received one asa a gift (my portrait) by an artist in the family and although I love it I am a bit self conscious about displaying it :)
Thank you so much!
@@LisaHoltDesign Thank you SO much Lisa, that makes perfect sense! 🤗❤️
Always useable ideas! Thank you, Lisa. Could you please do a video on living room television wall? Many of us have large TVs, thanks to our hubbies who think bigger is better, but they’re a bit rough to include in a good interior design
Great request! I’ll add this to the list of videos to come! Have you joined the list for the Design Club yet? I think you’ll love it, we’ll
livestream Q&A’s, deep dive and give lots of pro tips all about design, great for if you've got a project coming up, so send your email to www.lisaholtdesign.com and you'll be in the loop!
