I am a second year at the First Faculty at Charles Uni. The entrance test consisted of Biology, Chemistry and physics (you could choose between math and physics before but when I passed it there was only physics). I got circa 80.5% score and was directly accepted. I still had to pass an interview, but that was a formality to make sure I spoke english properly. It was just a conversation about why i wanted to medicine etc. They don't really have a limit number for accepted students, you need to get around 80-85% of points (at least thats what they told us)
To study for the test I redid the previous questions from previous exams a billion times :) I had a lot that were given to me for the entrance test for Masaryk Uni and it was about the same requirements knowledge-wise.
BE CAREFUL WHICH COMPANY YOU GO THROUGH TO PASS THE EXAM! SOME HAVE EXTRA FEES THAT CAN BE ASTRONOMICAL, MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT!
As for the studies themselves, MEDSOC the student association is there to help the english students and there are A LOT of notes to help you during your studies.
Life is good in Prague, come join us :)

Hi, my language learning skills aren't that great, but I heard that you need to learn the language to speak with patients in your last years of school. It it true, or do you think I could do fine with english the whole time?

    •  4 роки тому +2

      Magdalena M. Hello Magdalena,
Yes you need to learn Czech in order to communicate with patients, usually you have classes during the first 2 years of school but you can also sign in for extra electives throughout the clinical years.

One could extrapolate a few theories but a mixture of not knowing how to study properly, not studying enough and ahead and also some social and psychological aspects. It is not easy moving to a different country, culture and start whole new life.

Unfortunately it's been a while since I left uni, plus I was not in the dental programme. My advice is you should probably reach out to the English studies office, draft an email and ask all your questions.

Hello, I'm planning to attend Charles University next year, and it's tough for me to understand the differences between 1, 2 and 3rd faculties in Prague. Are the any one's? Thanks in advance

    •  2 роки тому

      Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately, I did not experience 1st 2nd or 3rd Faculties in Prague myself.
They all fall under the same umbrella (Charles University) but there will be differences in departments, teachers, student communities etc.
My advice would be to look for Facebook groups and student associations of all the faculties you are interested in and ask your questions directly to fellow students.
General comments we overheard was that 2nd Faculty was very demanding.

    •  5 років тому +1

Well... it is a lot of work. As in any other field, specifically in Medicine, the long hours of study and huge books to learn is what takes the most of your time and energy. A lot of hard work and above all discipline is what will get you through in my opinion.

    •  5 років тому +2

Both Plzen and Prague Faculties of Medicine belong to the same University.
Charles University has five faculties of medicine.
Three of which are in Prague, one is located in Pilsen and one in Hradec Kralove. They are independent institutions of equal standing, each having its own medical facilities. They all offer degree programmes in English.
And the Charles University itself is well ranked:
"The faculty is consistently ranked in the top 200, out of 17000 institutions in the world. It is currently ranked #152 in the world." (from wikipedia).
I guess one could say a degree from the Faculty of Medicine In Prague can have more prestige but personally I can't really vouch for it. Haven't heard any employer personally commenting on this matter nor have I any data to support.

Hard questions... multifactorial and hard to say or even pin it down to one single factor.
But I guess it all boils down to not studying enough or well I dare to say.
It’s not about the quantity but quality, actually learning the content and making the best out of your time. I strongly believe that anyone who puts the effort in will make it.
