I bought a Fenwick PLC60 bait cast rod for my collection. It had a broken size8 ring on the tip top. I built my own rods back in the BM & BK days (before marriage & before kids) and thought I could get the broken tip top off by heating it. I heated it, then tried to move it and it wouldn’t budge, heated it some more and it did turn so I just spun it off. Little did I know that the broken top top took about 3/8 of an inch of the rod tip with it. I want to keep the brown thread wrap that all Fenwick ferralite rod tops had on the tip in the 60’s-‘70’s. Some of the brown thread will be covered when I add the tip top. If I try to leave it on I’m not sure if it will allow enough purchase to make it a usable rod again. I’m pretty good at wrapping thread so I might just remove the 3/8” of brown thread wrap and add it back on after adding the 7 tube and 8 tip top back on. Your thoughts?
