  • Wow, only 4 weeks to go until Unbound 2024! I still have some decisions to make about gear and I need to sign up for paid support and do some tune-up work to the bike. I am however very pleased with the work I've done to improve my on-bike fitness in such a short time. Will it be enough to finish 200 miles of rock paths in Kansas? Well, that remains to be seen but I do believe I've done what I can do so far so it will have to do.
I have an 8-hour ride on tap this coming weekend and that will be the longest ride before Unbound. I think it'll end up being 100-110 miles making it the first time I've done a century since October of 2016, if memory serves. That should provide plenty of data to make the final decisions about gear, hydration, and nutrition.
If you're near Boulder on Saturday May 4th, let's go for a ride. A long ride!
    Cheers!

I use the same inflator and the only thing that goes bad on it is the o-ring, they can dry out and eventually not create a seal or simply fall out. A drop of silicone on them might prolong the lifespan of the o ring. One of these days ill see if i can source replacement o rings. Good luck and hope to see you on course!

I still need to fish out that old one and test it but I have the new one so hopefully, I'll be ok. I still have hope I won't need it at all. Good luck to you and I'll see you out there!

How did you find your coach? Also, nice bike!

My coach, Kristen Legan, is very well known in gravel cycling circles. She's part of the team who runs the training camps in Emporia and she won the 350XL in 2023. Through a friend, I was able to meet her and interview her last year in my failed attempt at Unbound. So this year, when I knew I needed help, I asked her if she had the capacity for take on another client and she did. You can read more about her and her coaching programs at rambleur.com. I have to say, it's likely the best money I've spent for this project and my chances at getting back to fitness overall. And the bike, yes, it's very nice and very fun to ride. Really takes the edge off the rough terrain so I'm hoping it helps in Kansas. It was awesome on my 110 mile ride yesterday here in Colorado. Thanks for watching and thanks for the question.
