My grandfather died this morning. This video was oddly comforting. Thanks John & co., for being a pleasant distraction during so many hard moments in my life.
Hi Complexly, great episode; however, i was bummed to see not much about how other culture's view of this have changed over time. Was a more christian focused episode.
The description of the "afterlife" in the Epic of Gilgamesh is that you just die without fanfare. "Dust is your food and clay is your bread" is poetic language that can also be said as "for thou art dust and to dust thy shalt return"...
Great episode! I wish, though, that you’d been able to spend some time discussing heaven and hell from an Islamic point of view, as the Islamic conceptions are internally quite diverse and shouldn’t be conflated with Jewish and Christian conceptions
The opening here just made me think of the giant sign coming into Indiana from the north that just says "Hell is Real"....a little on the nose I thought.
This is such an amazing series and I appreciate you guys willing to dive into these topics. I appreciate how blurred the lines are in real life and how willing you are to still give import to the wide blend of beliefs people hold despite that.
The number of metal bands from Ohio that have taken pictures with the "HELL IS REAL" sign is kind of funny. Edit to add, he mentioned Gahanna! I live there. It's not so bad.

Absolutely loving this series! The info is great, but the intentional avoidance of bias is what makes it next level to me!
Very Jewish and Christian episode would’ve love to look at other afterlifes more

And then he references a very similar sign 2 minutes later :)
these intros are peaking 👌

As a child of the 80s, I'm surprised John didn't mention the Carlislism view.
That, you know... Heaven is a place on Earth
I love John's humor...
My favorite version will always be Chidi's 🌊🌊🌊
Devils advocate jumpscare at the start. Top tier content
Time mark 11:33 to 11:40 🤯 we live in a finite universe but can conceive of infinity! You can think about that forever 😊
5:42 - No John, Ohio is the Florida of the Midwest
(Context: I am from Ohio)
This came up on my subscribed right after reading looking for Alaska and I feel like we’re gonna be right back in Dr. Hyde’s class
I'm going to hard disagree that the Christian concept of Hell had no connection to the Graeco-Roman concept of Hades.
Well, that clears that up.
His humor helps this heavy topic. He’s hilarious. I’ll always love Crash Course
Ive setled on the thought that im following my loved ones even if it leads no place special.
John green you have a great narrating voice
My daily pondering
Wow, that was a really long Policy Genius ad read.
John's suit and shirt today is really nice

Pretty much the same thing that was happening before I was conceived I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As a Floridian I describe Ohio as Boring Florida
Hell is dying without being able to know how the future will be
You forgot the Belinda Carlislecentric point of view that "heaven is a place on earth."
This series is spectacular
Well that escalated quickly...
There is also one of those signs in northwest Indiana off of 65 too 😂
I can actually answer the question "what happens when you die": We don't know.
I kinda like Devil's Advocate John. He's got style!
Heyyyy, Chat! It's me, the Devil's Advocate!
I'm here to argue about basic facts and religious practices!
- Devil's Advocate, probably
Thank you.
whats up with the hell sign???
After death your body becomes stardust - simple.
Thanks for pronouncing "Gahanna" right, at least. :v
I wish I believed in a life after death 😕
Nothing happens. You're dead.
