Your clam chowder and cheese cake was so good this year. Our house smelled of smoke from the salmon. It was a great Christmas!
Yes it was! And so was the salmon!
Great review Peter! I’m sipping along with you. This is the most viscous 43% chill filtered whisk(e)y I’ve experienced. On the neck pour this bottle seemed unremarkable but after that this is great and exactly as you describe.
Thanks! Enjoy the rest of the bottle. Cheers!
buddy bought some for my birthday. phenomenal stuff
I agree. It was my Japanese whiskey of the year last year. Unfortunately the price is above $200 now in my area.
Liked the video before watching because the thumbnail is so clean
Did you like the video after you watched it? I appreciate the like either way. Cheers!
Great feedback for this Single Malt, never tasted before, but I'll give it a try for sure. Oh my responsibilities cooking on the holidays are... 12 pound Prime Brisket, 10 pound Boston Butt Pork, Dino Short Ribs & Tomahawk Rib eyes, of course all of these are smoked on the grill, thanks again for the info
Sounds like a fantastic feast! Can't beat smoked meat. I hope you get a chance to try the Yamazaki. I think it's worth it even though the price is high. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney indeed it is a Feast of meat...Thakns for the feedback in my journey this coming week for that Whiskey in particular
Thanks for this review. My Costco here in Houston has a couple bottles for $170. I'm on the fence, but maybe I'll pull the trigger now.
I'd buy it. But it's not my money. My limit would be $180. Prices suck and are going up every month.
Whew! That's a pricey bottle! Prices for age stated Japanese have been going through the roof lately . The Harmony doubled overnight! Over here it's a hair on the cheaper side thankfully. I'll just buy a pour of it though haha. Enjoy your feast! Sounds amazing!
The feast was fantastic. I felt like the fat guy in the Monty Python skit. One more thing and I would explode. Over all the price of whisk(e)y is going through the roof. I bought a bottle of Blanton's in March for $65 yesterday it was $75. Ouch!
Just bought myself a bottle of Hakushu 1973 for my birthday present, this whisky is really suitable for highball especially when you add green apple favor syrup in it.
That sounds good. I have not had a highball yet. looking forward to having one this summer.
@@whiskeyisajourney Strongly recommended, and my favorite recipe is 45ml of whisky,10ml of green apple flavor syrup, and full the rest of the glass with soda water, quite refreshing.
I love your reviews man
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback.
Well done Peter.
A comprehensive review of an absolutely wonderful single malt whiskey.
Unfortunately it's not worth the asking price here in SoCal.
There are way too many incredible 12 year old whiskies out there for a fraction of its cost.
Is the price in SoCal comparable to Phoenix?
@@whiskeyisajourney Ranges from $140 to $250
@@lyacoubian ouch!
Was just gifted a bottle of this for Xmas think it's Fantastic.
Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy it. Check back in when you try it and let me know what you think of it. Cheers!
Got my second bottle today❤
I am on my 2nd bottle as well. Cheers!
Local ABC store had a closeout on these and I was able to grab a 750 for 99$, wouldn't say it is worth the 170 but def would place it in the 80-120 range
Nice price! I just saw the 100th anniversary bottle for 300+. I just kept walking.
Peter, Thanks for the awesome review. Yamazaki is one of the best whiskey.
If you get a chance try Hakushu as well. Im glad i acquired 6 bottles of yamazski and hakushu each when they are 60.00 dollars and i still have those stock
The Yamazaki is certainly one of my favorite Japanese whisky. I have never seen Hakushu in Arizona. Probably have to order it online. Looking forward to it. Cheers!
I just bought my first bottle, it was the new 100th anniversary bottle. Retail was $200 so probably not worth that, but I’m figuring I’ll never see one again so why not lol
My local Total Wine had it for $350. Ouch! Enjoy it. Cheers.
I like your style
Thanks. I appreciate that. Cheers.
sweet vid man
Thanks! I appreciate that. Cheers!
Yamazaki 12years nowadays is so expensive here in Japan especially it’s face out or the Suntory didn’t produce anymore. If you drop in some shop Clubs Lounges or Bars, the price is more or less ¥100,000~~~
That's crazy! It's good, but not that good.
Great review but the flavors are so mild some may consider it bland. It's a good starter single malt at about $35 per bottle but not at 3 or 4 times that. In my opinion, if you have to buy a Japanese whiskey, start with Hibiki Harmony for $100 or less.
The further I get away from this review the more I agree with you. I'm leaning towards Hibiki more. Cheers!
It is $250 now in Portland Oregon.
Ouch!
Just bought a bottle in Minnesota for $199.98 after tax. Listed at Total Wine at $179.99. Will not open it yet since I have a bottle of Hibiki unopened.
I have been sipping on the Hibiki a little more these days and almost prefer it over the Yamazaki...almost.
@whiskeyisajourney It's July 2024 and was at Total Wine. This bottle and Hakushu 12 are now going for $200. SMH
I really want to drink it. I’m a Japanese but it is a bit expensive for me😢
Try it in a bar/restaurant if you can find a pour. Cheers!
If you like this I think you'd really like the Hakushu 12yr (also Suntory) as its slightly peated, similar to the Yoichi from Nikka you enjoyed.
I'll keep an eye out for it. It's not in my area, but maybe an online order is in my future.
Japanese whiskey is very expensive.
Very true statement!
@@whiskeyisajourney I mean don't get me wrong, I've bought many bottles at £125, which is what Yamazaki 12 costs in the UK, but for that price I can get a 21 year old Scotch at at least 46% ABV, that has no E150a in it and is unchill filtered.
i must ask: why do you swirl it so violently all the time? i was told it agitates the whisky so shouldnt do it
It's a habit. I'm not doing it on purpose. Just happens. I hear the same thing about not doing it.
How hard is to get in Phoenix? I'll be flying to PHX to go to Sonora? what are your favorite liquor stores?
I shop mainly at Total Wine and More. This bottle is hit or miss at the 3 locations I visit. You need to call to find out if they have it.
@@whiskeyisajourney I found it where I live in OH, it is tempting but it's a steep price close to 200
Hi in general but also with Japanese whiskey, is Single Malt better than Blended Whiskey?
The only thing I can say is it all depends on the bottle and your preference. I've had good and bad from both, but my preference is to look for single malts over blends.
@whiskeyisajourney right okay that makes sense, I'm looking to buy my dad a Japanese Whiskey Single Malt. Would there be any you recommend? I've seen the Yamazaki Single Malt & Yamazaki 12-Year-Old & wasn't sure if it's worth the price between them? Or if you have any recommendations feel free to help me out!
Thanks
@whiskeyisajourney thanks for that advice, if you had to choose would you buy the Hibiki or Yamazaki distillers reserve?
I just bought one today 250$ near my house 😂 the price is going up maybe a little too strong for me. 43 %
Holy crap! That's way too much. It's still hovering around $165.00 here and that's high. $250 hurts!
Nice smooth whiskey, but ridiculously overpriced ($250 here.) The Nikka Miyagikyo is $100 here and to me, is just as good.
It went from $160 to $200 in just about 6 months here in Phoenix Arizona. Prices are out of control.
Beyonce love this
Maybe if she sees this review she will reach out and we can have a drink together and do a re-review in my studio. 🤣
I used to buy this stuff in the 1990s for $65. It was well worth it. $170 = not worth it.
It is expensive that's for sure. I've only been drinking/buying since Jan. of 2022 so I don't know anything else but high prices for whisky. $65 would be fantastic.
I wonder how much $65 would be today, accounted for inflation.
@@javidlj8676 yes good catch. Probably about $130 of the $170 is from inflation.
The way suntory works now is different to the way they use to operate, they actively switched sale tactics and work more akin to the diamond trade now.
Suntory now releases far less total volume bottles wise per batch, they sell less so that the rarity adds an ability to price it as rare.
They sell less at a higher price now, they use to sell more bulk now it's more akin to luxury clothing mentality.
You aren't paying for the alcohol anymore with suntory, you are paying for the providence and name Yamazaki or Hibiki
300 bucks a bottle....meh
Since the review the price is even higher now. Not good. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney watched a millennial idiot who thought his poop didn't stink and had way to much money to blow order a bottle ata cigar bar i was at and after 1 sip he spit it into his water and asked the waitress to dump it into the sink. He tipped her 100 bucks for doing it, said it was the worst thing he ever tasted
People never surprise me anymore these days. I wonder what the best thing he ever tasted was...probably a Macallan. 🤣
Overpriced af
And it keeps going up. I think it's over $200 now.
Anyone cares the origin of this guy? I just came for the Yama
Not sure what you mean with your comment. Can you explain?
