TF2 Weapons that I Hate Using

  • In a game with as many weapons to choose from as TF2, it's to be expected that not all of them will be good. But what about the ones that are technically good that I have personal bias against? Well, as I work on bigger and better stuff, that's what I want to rant about.

For those who don't know: The Dragon's Fury's projectiles are Off-Center.
For whatever reason they're going towards your upper left area of the crosshair, and the best way to use it as of now is to use improved crosshairs, which has a custom crosshair built for it.

One the main reasons why I ( and many other people ) enjoy using the Beggar’s Bazooka is the barrage mechanic. The ability to just delete players in just 2 seconds is just unmatched in the ridiculous amount dopamine you get. My second reason why I enjoy the beggar’s because it literally allows you to rocket jump USING THE AIR MOLECULES with overload jumping. Finally in Soundsmith’s own words “How are you suppose to dodge rockets if even the soldier firing it doesn’t know where it’s gonna go?!”
TL;DR: Sniff glue and go on a rampage with a kritz medic.

And the damn thing is also just overpowered to the point where it's just unfun, like all the skill that goes into playing medic is just flushed down the toilet in favor of playing support huntsman, like it's not OP in the sense of "RTD Soldier who just rolled Powerplay and just single-handedly causes the opponent to teamwipe with guaranteed crits and invincibility" because that has a dopamine rush to it. The crossbow is just "Oh cool I have an offbrand huntsman that instantly heals a teammate to full health if I hit them with it."
It completely shreds Medic's medigun balance to the point it ruins the entire class, like why bother spending braincells to pick the best medigun for the situation if I can just have a quickfix in my primary slot?
The crossbow feels like a crutch for bad medics who can't keep their team alive but are too in over their heads to switch to the quick-fix but done so poorly it's the only viable option for the slot.

lead your shots. don't consciously think about it too hard, it'll come with time spent using the weapon
don't panic airblast ever. airblast only if you know for sure it will save your life or doom someone else
unlearn combo instincts, it's not for that. engage from further away with a flare so you can do full damage shots right away
peek corner sentries, it's unironically the best weapon for sentry peeking (no clip, no self-damage, piercing, high damage, fast firing)
if the other team has a couple of scorch phlog pyros remember that the manmelter exists and complements the fury's airblast nerf nicely (and getting free 90 damage engage flares is nothing to sniff at, if you can aim it)

    • @LyritZian

Dragon's Fury -- and especially when paired with Scorch Shot -- does more damage, shoots faster, has more range, and hits more people than *_ANY_* Degreaser combo *_EVER_* did. I hate the Dragon's Fury not because it's bad (it isn't), but because it is more effective in almost every way than Degreaser + Axtinguiser, Flare Gun, or Reserve Shooter ever was, and those 3 combinations are all now terribly inconsistent (because of the new airblast) and pitifully weak compared to just holding left click with any other flamethrower.
Just had to get that off my chest. No offense to you for using it effectively. I just want _true_ combo Pyro back...

Don’t forget you can actually kinda combo with the dragons fury surprisingly, you just have to do it differently.
A video called “how to fight every class and win with the dragons fury” told me that the scorch shot can let you set up easy combo hits from the scorch’s flames. (You can use any flare gun, the but the scorch just lets you do it the easy and still combo from it).
Alternatively you can use the panic attack to squeeze it extra damage like the degreeser + panic attack for power classes. It also lets you have a tool to deal with enemies relatively okay if you mess up an airblast or two.
You can still combo with dragons fury, but it isn’t the focus.

Beggar's is basically just an "unga bunga" weapon for me. The mindset you have to embody is basically that of a imperial Japanese fighter pilot where you just yeet yourself at the enemy at extreme speeds and take as many of them with you as you can. Getting good with it is about doing this efficiently enough to not blow yourself up immediately, but still ultimately with the energy of a suicide mission.

  • @EpicGamerScout
    @EpicGamerScout Рік тому +116

For the beggars, IMO the downsides can be quite location dependent while the upsides are always insanely strong. Sure when you're grounded in a flat open area it's impossible to be consistent with your shots, but that's already the environment soldier should be trying to avoid. Find the right ledge to stand on or corner to camp... Suddenly you have a virtually unlimited stream of rockets flying down the chokepoint faster than you could with stock and with the option to do an insane suicidal burst of damage when the opening presents itself.
For the downside of not being able to immediately fire, it really just comes down to game sense of where enemies are gonna be and preloading your rockets around corners. Sure you can always theoretically be caught out from some weird angle and have to wait a second to fire, but you can just as easily catch enemies out by firing 3 rockets at close range into their face in half a second, punishing them even harder.
Bazooka isn't always *consistent*, and you have to accept the risk of a really bad life where all the shots aim as far away as possible; But think of how strong soldier already is in close/mid range enclosed spaces, and then functionally increase his reload speed(for streams of enemies) and burst potential(for group attacks), and you can imagine the bloodshed in extended fights, far beyond what any stock soldier could handle.

If you play your cards right you can go up against actual power classes with your revolver alone which can be pretty crazy- but even I'll admit It's a lot of effort for a reward that isn't the best exchange. it has its moments tho.

They're all there to just mess around with and have fun, not to pubstomp.
The eyelander though can be frustrating to use when you're dying a lot and the entire point of the widowmaker is to reward accuracy and good meatshots on a battle engie so if you like chip damage it is just going to be a worse shotgun. I would say the boston basher though is just objectively bad though because its only real use is hurting yourself to jump (which the atomizer just does better as you said), and if you want to build uber just have a soldier shoot himself in the foot.

Granted I'd say on more "Objectivity" that each of these has their own balance quirks.
The Beggar's Bazooka is basically designed in such a way that it gives up every kind of consistency available in exchange for some potentially stupid burst damage through 3 rockets coming out in the time it would normally take 1. Though then the shot deviation was added for the extra flavor that this thing is actual trash.
The FaN was built with high damage and knockback as a core feature, that the enemy will take significant damage if you hit them, and then either be halfway across the map where they can't fight back, be thrown off a cliff, or smack a wall for the combo.
The Huntsman is a weirdly balanced design of basically hitting both ends of the skill spectrum at once. The arrow hitboxes are wonky enough that you can get away with some "luck" but you also need to lead your shots enough to make it work in most situations. It also has a sort of Squiffer design where it's designed to take the long range weapon class and make it something that can flank and play much closer to the action.

Well, the thing with the FaN knockback, as some people (perhaps those in the comments, even) have said, is that it truly is something you work around and focus on utilizing, not put up with. Like, do I use the extra push as a makeshift jump after achieving both prior for quicker or sneakier maneuvers, or do I save the shots to push an enemy away from their intended path? If the latter, am I gonna do a quick stuff with both shots, follow up with a pistol barrage or Flying Guillotine hit before/after, or line up a Wrap Assassin bauble or a prior-launch Boston Basher hit to make them bleed out and have to prioritize a Medic or healthkit over going back to the front line? What if they're near a ledge or environmental hazard, would it be better to focus on those as well? Sure, I'm probably exaggerating, but ultimately my point, coming from someone that more often uses the gun than any other Scout primary, is that the FaN earned its status as a sidegrade cause it focuses on utility and multi-purpose application, rather than practicality and straight up shooting a guy dead.

This sounds less like working around the weapon and more so putting up with a bad relationship and saying “Oh my partner is fine. I am the one that needs to change for them.” so you can avoid the consequence of realising that the Mr. or Ms. FaN, that you have spent so much time with, is an abusive partner.
Edit: Do I need to clarify that I am not being serious with the bad relationship analogy?
Also my reason for disliking the FaN in my opinion is its stats contradict one another, not because I hate alternative play styles. I elaborate on this better in a comment below as well as compare it to two other weapons that also vary how you play compared to stock.

@@slysamuel5902 I mean, no? Most unlocks in TF2, even a couple of the bad ones, have a specific use to them that you learn and manage, why is the FaN any different? Because it does something _somewhat_ different to Scout's playstyle? Answer me what exactly makes it different from the Dragon's Fury or the Loose Cannon, two other weapons in this video that're fundamentally different from Stock and a couple other regular unlocks, cause I can really throw your argument back at you by saying you're so conditioned around what the other primaries have taught you that you're not willing to learn something different and get frustrated as a result.
I said I more often use FaN, I also swap it out for Soda Popper which has essentially become my second main, and Stock when needed, and use Baby Face when I essentially want to fuck around with a bleed loadout. I adapt to each one when something calls for it. FaN isn't supposed to be an inclosed shooter like the Stock or even SP, it's again supposed to be a tool used to push opponents back from away the objectives and/or frontline in order to mitigate their force. It also sounds like you're just, ignoring the fact that Scout has secondaries, when I already mentioned them in their use, as well as how the pistol is a decent alternative to any sort of mid air combat, keeping the dodge/jump aspect without ruining the momentum that the FaN can do when facing an enemy below or above you. Finally, where the hell did I half-lie and say it does better damage than Stock? I never once implied that, I literally just gave out tips and scenarios that could theoretically be enough to make an enemy near-death by the time they're pushed far enough back. Did you just, make up a counterargument entirely to make a point everyone knows about?
So, no, I don't "need to seek help". It sounds like you need to either respect people's weapon loadouts, or "git gud". Sorry I like to play differently, I guess.

Well for a non-joke response, I did not mean anything serious when I said it was like a bad relationship. That was a joke metaphor I was using in that comment. As for the unlocks you mentioned; with the force a nature, the thing that makes me view it as bad is not that it changes how you play, but it’s stats contradict each other.
The extra pellets and firing speed but lower damage per pellet makes it seem like a good close range burst fire weapon. But going for meat shots knocks them really far away. You can circumvent this with 1. Secondary weapons; but why not use a primary that can do 200+ damage faster than 1 FaN shot + cleaver/mid-range pistol bullets? 2. Using inclosed areas; why would you do that as the class reliant most on open areas? The weapon does not have a stat that helps you stay alive better in those restrictive areas. 3. The crit a cola; if you can stomach the downside of being marked for death then I guess, but you still have wait for it to recharge when you could kill faster with other primaries during said downtime. I feel like I have to use it in very inconvenient ways unlike the dragon’s fury.
The fury also changes how you play, but it is good due to its stats working together to support that altered play style. The higher dps, range than stock, as well as it firing projectiles work together to make it better at single target offence, rather than force you to because they contradict each other.
The loose cannon is not equal to stock (though I would not call it bad, to me it’s right below good) since you would probably have better dps by with two 100 damage pipes in the time it takes to charge one double donk, and it’s not as good with sentries. That said its stats do not contradict each other, forming a natural alternative play style. Though most people really just use it for fun (btw if you use the FaN for fun too while acknowledging it probably is not that good, that is completely fine dude. I also do that but with the loose cannon and some other stuff).
If I could fix the FaN, I would remove its damage penalty, and either remove its knock-back all together or make it so that alt-fire changes it to a “double fire” mode like real life double barrels can be changed to shoot one or two shells at once. This mode would not increase damage, but it would have the knock back to enemies and user, which I would remove from “single shot” mode. This way no stats conflict with each other, you get to be a burst damage scout without the need to worry about hitting the next shot. Good weapon (I hope), fun alternative play style.
Though if you think it doing 126 damage with 12 pellets is OP, then swap that stat with the soda popper’s faster reload time.

5:06 I know this is really old and probably won't be seen, but I've been using the beggars for a while. It's insanely fun to rocket jump with. it's mostly learning timing and flicking your shots instead, it somehow helps more with preditction. Also you can store 3 shots in the chamber with a taunt loop, which is actually a good strategy for saving yourself or setting a trap. You can double/tripple wall-jump in one go hugging the wall. Another neat trick is if you let your rockets reach 4 and turn behind you, you can blast jump which will knock you forward, flicking 180 back ahead, you can let go of the other two rockets to pogo before they explode. now, I'm not saying you have to use gunboats with the beggars, but it drastically changes how vital jumping is in gameplay. you can well time a sync rocket to land with you while you already have 2 stored up from falling from the map cieling. I'd highly recommend giving a look at BlindPyro on youtube, the trashcan gives the soldier wings.

Well, to give a few pieces of my experience with the Beggar’s Bazooka, it may not be the most viable or consistent to use, but it’s definitely pretty fun and creative
Mainly because I used this a lot when I play Soldier, for me, it’s good at damage, decent at cleaning up large groups (if you’re careful or with someone), and often works wonders when hiding/going around corners (or literally anywhere out of plain sight), as you can reload your three rockets and unleash hell to whoever you meet as a surprise attack.
There was also this one time that involves a Scout prancing all over the place, and when loading up the Bazooka, the first or second rocket hit him (with the other missing), but as he was dodging it, I have to like flick my mouse to aim at him, and managed to him on the spot

It's because it has no counterplay. You can cleverly predict soldier shots, perfectly time crouch jump to surf the blast away, airblast knowing exactly where he's aiming, or even just small things like moving away from the obvious target zone to slightly lower damage "oh, better not stand near this dispenser, he's bombing".
Meanwhile with beggars you cannot predict his shots, even HE doesn't know where he's shooting. Meaning you can't surf the blast. You can't airblast knowing your target line. Often he's spammed enough rockets that you couldn't surf or airblast anyway because they'll kill you first. If you're on a dispenser and a beggars soldier bombs you, you're better off literally not moving because there's nothing you can do regarding his aim and therefore dodging, so it's best to get the most out of the dispenser while it still lives. Absolutely stupid.
But the weapon is so weird and annoying to use that thankfully it's not a problem. It's like the vaccinator. Absolutely disgustingly overpowered, turns any fight with a medic into a chore, almost impossible to counter without changing to stupid classes like demoknight and scorch shot spam. But it's complex enough that basically noone uses it so noone cares.

The Force a Nature is my go-to primary alongside the short stop. it's a really tricky weapon to use that requires a bit more awareness of your own movement, sure. but it also has some really mean tricks up its sleeves
if you haven't learned to do force jumps yet i HIGHLY recommend you practice them. to me, they unlock the full potential of the weapon and give you so much more technicality. You can get nearly a rocket jump's worth of vertical with none of the self damage.
One thing I love doing when fighting soldiers his force jumping straight up, ideally away from any walls. this does two things; it forces them to go for an air shot to hit me if they want to gain advantage in the encounter, and it prevents my next shot from pushing me around, allowing me to make full use of my double jump and air strafing. sure you have to reload it after the first shot you actually use to damage someone, but that's more than made up for by the time you spend airborne, and used properly you should be reloaded by the time you land.
It's also scout's best escape tool by far. even soldiers will struggle to chase you around if you're abusing force jumps to make it up and down tall ledges and walls. on maps like suijin, you can exit one of the doors on the point, force jump and then double jump back and immediately be on the upper level, which makes it basically impossible for most classes to chase you. it's a strategy that's insanely strong on any map with any verticality (which is basically all of them) because it gives scout access to most of soldier's routes for flanking and retreating
you're going to take longer to kill people than with the soda popper, but the soda popper is an unbalanced piece of shit anyways so I don't consider that a fair benchmark; it literally has higher DPS than stock and the ability to fly. Using the force a nature is about rewiring your brain to move around the map with M1, and be aware of every bit of map geometry you're not looking at, much like a soldier

I can get your option on the Huntsman, but I see it more as a weapon for mid to close battles. It's great for body shots as it'll do 125, so as long as you got a smg, you'll be mowing down lightweight classes pretty easy. As for long range, it's kinda luck based, but not as much as people make it out to be, you just gotta know the drop of your arrows and predict an enemies movement. Thanks to this, I've gotten used to other classes walk speeds, so I can predict where classes will go and where I need to let my arrow go ahead of them for it to connect. I've got to the point where I've been able to get spies even when cloaked, as long as I saw them and have a rough idea where their walk path is.

With the beggars bazooka, you have insane mobility whilst having essentially infinite rockets with the occasional 3 fast firing rockets. The downside of inaccuracy is annoying but is mitigated when you have so mich mobility that you're always close to them. If youre always preloading then you'll never get caught off gaurd and if you know how to beggars jump properly (and not just overload jump with all 3 rockets) you become a jet that drops several nukes per second. You should check out sirky or blind pyro to see just how crazy and fun it can be.

Surprisingly, I happen to really like almost all of these weapons, so I guess I'll give my take on each:
    1. FaN: Not as good as the soda popper, but really fun regardless. The knockback can be a positive sometimes, but I agree that it makes you unable to fight while in the air.
    2. Beggar's: You really can't use this weapon like it's stock. Sure, constantly firing without reloading is cool and all, but that's not what you're using this weapon for, is it? You're using it to vomit rockets like a lunatic. And to do cool rocket jumps. It's a really fun weapon, but you have to embrace its inherent randomness.
    3. Dragon's Fury: This thing is a beast in the right hands. It turns pyro into a true offense class that can shred through enemies with ease. You need good aim, though, and it takes practice, but it's really worth it. And don't bother using airblast with it.
    4. Loose Cannon: Ah yes, a fun gimmick weapon that is really hard to use and extremely hard to master. It has really high highs, but much lower lows, so I understand why it can be frustrating to use or put any time into. Then again, I'm a Spy main, so I don't have any problem with it.
    5. Eyelander: 100% agree with what you said, actually. However, if you're just messing around in, say, a 24/7 Hightower server, then a lot of the stress is gone when there are no stakes and heads are easy to collect.
    6. Holiday Punch: Not really a weapon you should ever use seriously. Heavy doesn't have any use for his melee, so his best melee options provide utility. This thing can get _some_ use if you're the type of heavy thag likes to flank enemies. The times when it's useful are very niche, but when it works, it fucking works and creates some great moments.
    7. Widowmaker: Sure, you have to discipline yourself to make each shot count, but it allows you to play really aggressively and output a fuckton of damage without stopping. Really fun, once you get rid of your bad habits.
    8. Lucksman: Yeah, it's inconsistent... I'm not the biggest fan either, but I appreciate its existence...
    9. DR: GunSpy. Use it for GunSpy. You don't need to MLG trickstab anyone. Just use it for GunSpy, or at the very least a more gun-oriented playstyle. I just love how aggressive you can be with this thing, but it takes an eternity to recharge. I mean, I'd take the current version over the pre-nerfed one every day, but I think it could use a _slight_ buff. Very slight.

i love the beggars bazooka so much, because you can do so much more than just mid air jumps, you kinda develop this playstyle of constantly loading up rockets and just jumping from corner to corner of the map to refresh health and ammo, you will often end up in some crazy chases with it, where you'll be hunted by a scout who you have to dodge for so long until you outposition him and he's dead instantly, it feels great. plus market gardens with this thing look flashy as hell.

The key to loving the loose cannon is to aim for your opponents' head and to engage them at sticky snipe range. This tech maximizes double donk likelihood and forces you to improve your aim. But it is a very meme weapon that I only ever use on high tower. That said, putting in the time on the loose cannon can be very rewarding.
Another good tech is to aim for the feet of heavier targets. Send them flying for fall damage or pop them up for an air shot. Sirky made a whole video about this.

I just love the ability to jump with it, it’s so much more interesting than stock once you learn how to overload and release jump. It might have something to do with my playstyle of basically being a casual roamer soldier where I fly around like a moron and land on some poor unsuspecting soul with three rockets prepped and get outta there. I feel like if I was the one to make the list, I’d stick the Most Hated Medic Weapon on there to be the Vita-Saw. Granted, it’s not so much hating it as it is “realizing that it’s simply not as good as Medic’s other melees,” but it’s the closest I can manage.
In summary, it’s basically just “Eyelander-Lite” with the whole point of punishing you upon missing fitting in here as well, albeit to a smaller scale. Granted, the bonus is only “per hit” and not “per kill,” which makes it at least slightly more negligible, but Medic is much squishier and less damage focused than Demo.
You really should be only using Medic melees as a last resort most of the time because of this and 10 less health on the class with the second-lowest maximum health pool just makes him that much easier to kill. And if you do manage to get a cheeky hit via sneaking around, then props to you, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with the weapon itself so much as skills, timing, and/or luck. You could easily do that with any other Medic melee without the 10 health penalty because on top of being a super squishy Herr Doktor as it is, that 10 extra HP might just save your life if you could get out fast enough. But more importantly, you’re just more-likely to spend a few extra seconds waiting to respawn, and that means your team has a lack of primary heals for that much longer, and it could even ruin the game if you needed an Ubercharge at that time.
“A dead Medic is a sad Medic.”

Even though it shines on defense, I can still use it well on attack. Loading the beggars before blindly turning a corner actually gets you more kills than you might think, especially when you combine it with the conch/backup, where you don't need to worry about switching to a shotgun every now and then to preserve your rocket clip. Not to mention it does well against an airblasting pyro, due to the fact that they don't know when you will release your barrage. (plus airblast cool down is slower than firing speed of barrages)
Basically, if you know what you're doing, you can be the front-line of your team spamming banner buffs and rockets down each hallway.

No clip reload means no awkward pauses inbetween jumps like on the airstrike, and the conch means I can do much more of these jumps without cratering whilst jumping to a healthpack spot where aforementioned health pack is already taken. And for cramped maps like good ol 2fort, it is a must have for corner peeking that vax medic heavy duo. And also just in general. Maybe a skilled player doesn't really care about some tryhard in a pub with a moderate degree of skill, but there's such satisfaction in whipping out the beggars soldier when the same stickyspam demo blows up your level 3 sentry for the 8th time.
