Super Cool guitars - looking forward to part 2, 3, 50,.... By the time you get around to showing all of them you will have bought some more and have to update :) Great show as always!
I really dig this kinda stuff, showing a collection and the stories behind each one. Used to do it in-person with guitar playing buddies through the years. I'll probably watch this video 5 times, at least. Thanks Benny!
Did you check the one I just did of my buddy ernies collection a few videos back? There's also a vintage episode where I go through like 5 million in my friends axes....hope ya dig. Thanks for watching
You got some good ones dude. That 1840s Aubrey is insane. And it's cool you got those Vietnam ones. Back in 2010 the company I was at sent a few of us to Sri Lanka and then Senegal. They both have huge open markets and guys with stacks and piles of unreal raw materials, wood, pearls, horn, gold and silver, whatever, making whatever you want. You could get a huge slab of ebony or rosewood for a couple bucks. Anyways can't wait to see part 2
There are some wild guitars out there. Unfortunately, a lot of those axes have insane woods and materials but are built like crap! So much work to get them to play right
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist absolutely. It's the same with anything like that. Most become wall hangers for the rest of the world. If someone is able though, they could just buy one for the materials and use it as a base for someyhing cool and different.
@@RByrne that's exactly what those electrics were. All thr parts are top notch and I had a really good dude fix all of the problems, but it was A LOT of work.
Ben 🤘sexy collection ❤ keep up. U must be tired of hearing tis but tat track ' take another piece ' by U guys , is becoming our new anthem. Waiting for another epic track lik tat one .Shalom
Hi Benny. I'm loving the channel mate. Thank you! Always interesting and fun. It was nice to see your Saigon Specials in this episode. I've got one that I'd brought back with me from HCMC to Sydney. I bought it in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, about 8 years ago now and it sticker in the hole reads by makers "Chuck and Anna". The story goes (insert eye roll) is that Chuck was a US Vet that stayed behind to marry his Vietnamese love Anna. He started a small guitar and string instrument building operation there. I wonder if you've ever heard this tale of them per chance? And yes, it plays like crap... But sure is a pretty wall hanger. Amazing mother of pearl and duck egg inlays, dragons, landscapes, clouds and other botanicals. Cheers to you TNG. Im looking forward to your next Ep. already.
Those guitars in the video are from Antoniotsai. Everything I have purchased has been a double edged sword. Those guitars I asked for just the bodies because their hardware and pickups are terrible. The holes weren't measured right, there were no holes in the pickup cavities and the insides were so splintered that I couldn't shield them properly. That said, I had to have the fretboard re radiused because it was so all over the place, the frets leveled, and all of the hardware, electronics, etc were done from the ground up. After all of that they play awesome. I have had a few acoustics and 2 of them came with the greatest wood and inlays but same deal, the fretboard caused all kinds of buzz because it wasn't radiused properly and the frets were all over the place. Once I fixed that they sounded insanely good, but I have two that were so terribly made that they have just become wall hangers. There's another studio called taismalu and they make Alulu ukes which have all been pretty badass. In the end, im glad I spent the time on the ones that I have but I wouldn't waste my time or money in the future. I haven't heard that specific story, but most of those workshops have lore like that. The problem is they used incredible woods but they don't dry them right so they tend to warp and crack and while their inlay work is insane, it's clear they have kids throwing some of these together so they go from pretty awesome to literally unplayable.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist You're so right . I had considered having this 6 string acoustic seen to by a pro to rectify but its just not worth it at then end of that day given that it only cost a couple of hundred. More importantly though, I did'nt want to risk messing up any of the inlay extravagance. I mean, there is a dragon with scales that runs the entire length of the fret board for crying out loud! So, Ill put up with the 12th-15th fret playing the same note on the bottom E for example. Such a shame really given the pain staking work that someone had gone through only to be ultimately ruined by another person on the factory line that probably didn't give a crap.
@@Bretty45 some of them are worth bringing because the level of fuckery with them varies dramatically so they don't all have to be wall hangers. 2 out of 4 acoustics I have play and sound insane. The two wall hangers are f4 mandolin style guitars w a dragon on the fretboard of one and flowers/vines on the other. Total pity. But the ones that DO play sound as good as some of my 2k+ guitars for 400 + the labor.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I should get a quote huh. Hmm...do you think there are any tell tale signs Benny that I could assess to know if it would be worthy of effort?
@@Bretty45 any esteemed luthier should be able to look at it and tell you what kinda work it needs. The majority of acoustics I've dealt with have slightly bent necks or need to have the frets/fretboard evened out. You can try messing w the trus rod or raising the sadle to see if that solves the problem. But those are usually the huge things...the wood wasn't properly cured so it's developed an angle at the neck and if the fretboard isn't even and the frets aren't crowned you're gonna have buzzing all over the place. All it takes is one super uneven fret or for the board to be slightly wonky in one spot to spoil the day.
@@semafog1512 haha omg, don't do that!!!! Always ask questions. The amount of stuff I've learned from people educating me on this channel has been insane. I know like 3x as much as when I first started. That said, Jesus was kinda cheap so after that we parted ways 🤣
I thought you were in a music store the first t I me I saw one of your videos. I currently have more dogs than guitars, but I'm working on the collection.
@Joe Gillis I appreciate you, anyone who rescues animals is awesome in my book. My two kitties were a rescue. My dog we bought but that was my fiance doing.
@The Neurotic Guitarist thank you, it's nice to hear , and the same to you rescuing the kitties. We one bought one of ours, also the fiancé s doing. They ask so little and give so much .
You are a good man, Joe. As a fellow animal guy, I salute you. I have 3 dogs and a cat. One of our dogs came to us as a foster from the Bahamas (I live in Canada), but we fell in love with him the minute we saw him, so we adopted him. I like animals more than people.

As always, Benny, a fantastic video. Now I can't stop thinking about intentionally sun-bleaching my PRS CE. 🤘🤘
