I have sung this beautiful music many times over the years. But I have only just found out that T. Tertius Noble was the uncle of 1930's band leader and composer, Ray Noble! I love HIS music as well. What a talented uncle and nephew, in two very different genres of music.
Afraid to say the tenors at the end of the Gloria do not do it justice, the second "world without end" is one of the most incredibly beautiful parts of any Magnificat I ever had the pleasure of singing.
Great singing! But you could sense it was lagging behind quite a bit every phrase! Maybe due to people not watching, especially at phrase beginnings and ends. :)
Really there's no need for a conductor at all. If the choir is "lagging" or not together, they haven't practiced enough! A choir MUST be together. We used to sing without a conductor, Cathedral choir 1960s.
