Hey Mate, you will use less rounds, if you sight in with a group, instead of trying to do single rounds and adjust it to the bullzeye, shoot 3 rounds and adjust from the centre of the group. you will have more luck and save some precious ammo. trust the clicks on the scope to do thier job. Thats what they are for.

Yeah, everybody has their own method, but I have always been taught to shoot a 3 shot group, adjust, let the barrel cool for about 5 min, and shoot again. I've also always been told to use sandbags, but again, to each his own.

I really like the fusion bullets I have always had great results out of them out of my 300 win mag and 30-06. I always get the 180grain and my rifles preform excellent with them, I get quick 1 shot humane kills when deer hunting and almost always drop the deer in their tracks. My 30-06 produces 5 bullets in the same hole at 100 yards and the 300 win mag produces a quarter size group at 100 yards

I was looking for some rounds to break my 25-06 barrel in when I first got it and I thought about the Fusion ammo. I talked to a guy that has shot bout every type ammo on the market he told me the fusion ammo didn’t get the best groups now. So I waited till I got my 25-06 put together and it’s shot Nosler ballistic tips every since. Never had a factory round shot through it and as long as I am able to reload and can get Nosler ballistic tips it never will. I’m just going by what this guy told me now. He never lied to me about anything.

You have to remember the farther out you go even the slightest amount your off at your sight in range that will be x10 at a 1000. And with the drop of the bullet you could go thru a boat load of ammo and not get close to the target. Does this rifle have a 20MOA rail on it? Most hunting rifles don't come with this feature you may run out of adjustment at 1000 yards with this scope. For long range.shooting I'd suggest having a individual that is familiar with mounting long range scopes on rifles set it up for you or at least guide you so it's spot on. Good luck long range shooting is fun and challenging at the same time.

Just started hunting with a Thompson center venture 7mm-08 this year. I think its my new favorite hunting caliber. I reload my own ammo using hornady sst bullets. They performed amazingly well on the 3 does ive shot so far! I've always had okay luck with federal fusion in all of my guns but they've never been a tack driving bullet. If you're shooting long range id highly recommend getting in to reloading. If not, I'd go with a more premium match grade round. Those groups will be a quarter the size when you find what that gun likes :) my American 223 shoots 1/3" groups at 100 yards all day! It amazes me every time I shoot it.

I have often considered it. I either went 7mm RemMag or 308. I would get a 7mm08 over a 6.5 Creed. Enjoy. If you are able to get them, Hornady Precision Hunter is a 150gr. ELD-X or Nosler Trophy Grade is a 140gr. Accubond. Great B.C. & not bad for hunting for sure.

Well my son took 2 deer this season with the Federal Fusion. One heart placement went 15 yards. The other double lung went about 70 yards leaving a path all the way. Both were inside 60 yards so not a long shot but he freehanded both so I would say the product works pretty good. It was a 6.5 Creedmoor though. I’m looking mighty hard at 7mm-08 for my next rifle but with 2 6.5’s and a 30-30 I don’t “need” another one esp given we mostly have 130 yard or less shots. I really like the ballistics on the 7mm-08 and almost wish I had talked him into buying one. Good stuff.

  • @kentuckywindage222
    @kentuckywindage222 3 роки тому

WTW everyone has their own way of setting a rifle scope it seems. After making adjustment for the first few times I always bang the new scope a tad with my hand. Somethings just need to break in a little to work proper. I've did this for 20 + years with cheap and expensive scopes. If ever you doubt a scope put the gun or scope in a vise. Put the crosshairs on a mark on the wall or wherever. Now take a rubber mallet and give it a love tap. Not exceedingly hard but solid. Check placement of your crosshairs. If it jumps off target your scope is malfunctioning or in hillbilly slang junk.🤣😂
Seriously it does work. I have found 4 scopes I can remember in my own weapons and working part time at an outdoors (gun store) store years ago. 90% of the time it's in the mounting hardware or something most won't admit. Their shooting technic. Also try a level mounted to your scope. Keeps you level at distance.
I also read somewhere the trajectory is on par with, if I remember correctly 300 W.M.?

I am going to try one of those Zero Tech scopes. I have a 7mm Mag that needs a little better scope than whats on it, and I think it would be the perfect candidate for one. You were talking about the scope being cantalated over, and not exactly straight. Had that happen to me before, as well. easy to do. Bought a 243 one time, and it had a scope on it, and looked through it, and the scope was turned where it looked like a tic tac toe X rather than straight. I asked the dealer about it, and he said it had belonged to a guy in his neighborhood that everyone called Uncle Shakey. And he had consigned it for his widow. He said Uncle Shakey never could hit with a scope turned the right way, so he always put on his scopes where X marked the spot, then he could always hit with it. I really don't know whether the guy was telling the truth, but I thought it was such a good story, than I went home with Uncle Shakeys gun. :-)

Fusion ammo in my experience is just ok not what id use fer precision shooting i use the cheapest stuff i can get to tune my barrels and get on paper close to where i want it then find the ammo i need/want to do the job i need/want.

Personally, i have had better luck shooting groups as someone else mention.
It may sound contradictory but for me, shooting more shots in a group led to shoots less overall.
I also noticed that it helped the crosshairs to "settle in", regardless of the price point of my scopes, rather than constantly adjusting.
All my scopes other than my rimfire are zeroed in 2" high at 100 yds.

Brother and a friend shot deer with them both had less than desirable results minimum damage and no blood . The also do not group well in their guns 1.5 to 2 inch plenty for wisconsin deer but not food enough for me. Hornady is my choice except my 308 it loves 150 federal power shock ammo.

Well i tried the 100 grain in my 7mm 08 and they shot terrible. Now for the 55 grain, that's another story. those things are tack drivers. I'm so confident in them I'm taking them on my hopefully 2nd consecutive successful elephant hunt here in N. Ga. I will update on hunt.

Federal Fusion is taboo on our deer lease. Bad accuracy and bad performance. None of the guys that have used it, including myself have had good results. I love the 7mm-08 and have had 2 of them but had to let them go because of the lack of quality ammo availability here in southwest Arkansas. I prefer Hornady SST.

Shot a deer with a fusion 3 days ago. Bullet didn’t pass through at 80 yards on a 120 pound doe. I found the bullet under the skin on the opposite side and it mushroomed well, but it seemed to expand to fast. I would like to know your experiences, thank you.

The last shot was the highest one. I’m not sure why, but just about every scope I’ve adjusted seems to not move as much as I intended a couple of times, then make a big jump on a small adjustment. Go figure.
